Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 X20XEV engine

My car has 2 frequent idling problems when stationary, but it doesn't do it all the time.

1) Engine idling ok around 800-1000rpm, then suddenly revs drop & engine stalls.
If I'm quick enough, put foot on accelerator, I can catch it & keep revs up.

2) Engine revs. too high & constantly oscillates betwen 1500-2000rpm.

Any ideas what the problem could be & where to start ??

Hi there i have just got my car started again after needing a new coil pack and after also running out of petrol now i have changed that and toped up the fuel the revs on idle are to high is there a simple explenation for this or does this sound like a sensor of some kind.
I took it out for a run in the hope that it may drop back to normal but to no avail ??

If everything was working fine before you replaced the coil pack then you have probably disturbed or disconnected a hose somwhere, allowing air into the inlet manifold.

Carlsberg don't make cars
But if they did, their car adverts would be fantastic.

Their adverts get people thinking and talking about the brand. Good advert!

I need to get a tow ball fitted to my C4 Picasso so I can mount a cycle carrier (can't use one that hangs off the hatch back and I don't want a roof one)

Question is........do I need to have electrics fitted for a light board. The rear lights on the C4 Picasso are quite high up and are right at the edge of the body. It looks like mounted bikes may not interfere with viewing of lights. Any views? Ta Read more

Talking of tow-ball mounted bike carriers, I prefer the ones that bolt to the plate on which (traditional) tow-balls are themselves bolted (if you see what I mean) rather than the ones that clamp onto the tow-ball. But a lot of modern tow-balls have detachable necks, and I don't think my prefered type would be compatible with this.

Im changing the glow plug on my booster heater as last year when the cold weather came it stayed on for a long time and smoked a lot. I was advised to first try the glow plug as its the cheapest option. Is there any way i can start the booster after i have finnished without waiting for the cold weather and is there anything i should look out for before i start or whilst doing the job... Oddly, I was admiring a couple of Ajays and Matchlesses, plus 3 Squariels last weekend.

Good luck with the search :)

Where were you then?

I was doing trips to Swansea (from Yorkshire).
On one of the trips down in a petrol Fiesta it was well below freezing, perhaps below minus 10C and just about every truck on the road, entering Wales, seemed to have pulled over with a waxed fuel supply.

In Swansea bay the sea was actually frozen in piles as the surf hit the shore. I had at this point almost chosen a Fiesta diesel, which would have been my first and the incident put me off diesel until 1991.

What were you doing/driving at this time?

Maybe it was the wind blowing the engine heat away from the fuel lines, rathr than wind chill per se.

If I decided to import an EU spec. car from an EU country that is right hand drive, can anyone give me a ball park figure as to how much it would cost on top of the vehicle price to import into this country.
Say for instance a vehicle worth £10K Read more

I think i screwed up and somehow deleted my last attempt at posting a topic so let me try again :

I have just paid out for a new clutch and think my lovely Rover 75 (1.8 Club 2000) will have to go before I have to shell out for a cam belt and maybe a clutch slave cylinder..

All the guys in the pub say that dealers are "... giving cars away..." 'cause the market's so bad ... where are they all ? the ones I've encountered offer me £1K for mine (probably as good as I'll get) and no movement on the asking price of anything I'm looking at ... I'm Ok to spend about £5K and want something small and economical (doesn't everybody) - there's a Vetec down the road in a garage, the Citroen C4 looks good (maybe a bit big) honest John mentioned a Hyundai i30 or KIA Cee'd. 1.4 or 1.6 petrol or 1.6 diesel, there's also the Seat Ibiza ... any advice very welcome please regards Roger Read more

Hi, need some advice on a problem that?s been bugging me for a few days now.

Jumped in the car a few days back and not sure if it was just a coincidence but shortly after plugging in my phone into the charger (connected to cigar lighter) I smelt something burning. Not long after the battery light came on and I thought I had blown the relay for the alternator.

However, the electrics windows (front and back), rear wash wipe, clock/outside temperature do not work and the battery light is permanently on. I googled the problem and it seemed that a 30A fuse had blown. Replaced the fuse and was able to operate the electric window for 2 secs or so and the fuse blew again.

Came home googled a bit more and found that it might be the rear wash wipe (which hasn?t been used in over 2 years since it got jammed and blew the same fuse). Disconnected the rear wash wipe and removed the relay connected to it. Replaced fuse again and it blew again.

A friend has said it could be the wiring that runs through the A-pillar to the door, which seems logical. But before I start investigating I'd really appreciate if anyone can give me any other ideas on what might be causing this.

Thanks
