I think i screwed up and somehow deleted my last attempt at posting a topic so let me try again :

I have just paid out for a new clutch and think my lovely Rover 75 (1.8 Club 2000) will have to go before I have to shell out for a cam belt and maybe a clutch slave cylinder..

All the guys in the pub say that dealers are "... giving cars away..." 'cause the market's so bad ... where are they all ? the ones I've encountered offer me £1K for mine (probably as good as I'll get) and no movement on the asking price of anything I'm looking at ... I'm Ok to spend about £5K and want something small and economical (doesn't everybody) - there's a Vetec down the road in a garage, the Citroen C4 looks good (maybe a bit big) honest John mentioned a Hyundai i30 or KIA Cee'd. 1.4 or 1.6 petrol or 1.6 diesel, there's also the Seat Ibiza ... any advice very welcome please regards Roger Read more

Report on the BBC this morning showing that texting is worse than drug/drunk driving.

And yet I see this every day.

Apparently records numbers are being fined, but it doesn't seem to be changing peoples attitudes.

A bloke at work keeps his hand on his horn when he pulls up next to someone using there phone.

He's built and looks like a brick outhouse so he can pretty much do what he wants (I suspect its not too legal all that honking).

It seems to work though. Read more

the only car integrated phone systems i've ever had any dealings with are dreadful.. a mate has a new Freelander and whenever he rings me from that or vice versa I have to arrange to speak later, as I can't hear him.....sounds like he's over the other side of a room

PS how do I subscribe to a thread please

We don't have that facility here any longer as too many people ignored the message asking not to reply to the email that was sent to them informing that someone had replied to their post; or their email address was no longer valid; or they had set up an 'out of office' autoreply - all of which ended up in the former webmasters inbox.

Luckily before my time otherwise I would have got as irate as he did when the above happened!

Hi there, first post on this excellent forum - I hope someone can help me.

I've just picked up a very clean T-reg 406 HDi estate. I've been looking for one with the additional rear-facing seats to accomodate our growing family, but those I've seen have been right nails so I've plumped for this one even though it doesn't have the extra seats.

Does anyone know if the boot floor is ready made to accept a set of retro-fitted rear seats? I've got the possibility of buying some second hand that come with seatbelts, and if these can be fitted safely I'll end up with exactly the car I want, so any advice greatly appreciated. Read more

Excellent - many thanks.

The improvement of the approach roads to Luton airport started in June 2006 and was supposed to be completed by spring 2008, but is still going on. It is a major construction project, but I cannot help thinking that in any other advanced country it would not be a 2-3 years job but one completed in months. It seems typical of such projects in this country. Can anyone in the business throw light on this? Read more

However they have just opened a new motorway bridge in Minnesota to replace the one
which fell down last year - it took them just over 12 months to build
it.

I lived six blocks from this bridge throughout the 1990s, drove over it countless times, and was dumbfounded to see what things looked like after it came down--that could have been me on it that day, for all the times I went over it. As it turned out, one of the people that was on the bridge when it collapsed turned out to be a former neighbour from two blocks away in my hometown.

When I was in Minneapolis this June, I watched the crews working on the replacement bridge--and working at quite a clip! No slacking off here. They must have paid millions in overtime to get it built so quickly.
