Been reading similar queries with the peugeot 307 HDI rapier 110. Our problem is that when driving the 'nblock diesel filter light'comes on, shortly afterwards anti pollution fault comes on then restricts the power. The engine doesn't cut out We have had the diesel and pollution filters changed and had additive tank filled and the problem still persists. Peugeot can't find the problem. Can anyone help us really like the drive of the car but this problem is annoying!
Hoping to take the car driving aound the Lakes with the kids but not sure if its safe to do so!
Thanks Kaz Read more

Thanks srewloose for your knowledge about mechanical problems, I have had the car for nearly 2years after it came back from the garage the lights stayed off for a bit then came back on with a vengenace! Will have to pay for the work to be done properly seems the only solution. Thanks again for your help.

My peugeot 306hdi is having starting problems and we are really struggling with what to try next to avoid taking to expensive dealers (not financially possible).
The car was running fine and was parked up one day when i went to work, on returning it would only fire up and then cut out again.
I took it to a friend with the diagnostics kit and the P0230 and P1138 were showing. From speaking to various peugeot workers and readin through forums it seems P1138 is a common code after a shutdown and P0230 usually relates to the LP fuel pump.

The car will fire up with the key and will run for maybe 5 seconds before dying again of its own accord. Putting the ignition on can hear the LP pump in the tank fire up and also fuel rushing through the inlet into the fuel filter. The engine will also rev within that 5 secs but then still dies the same.

Today the LP fuel pump was taken out the tank, taken apart, cleaned thoroughly including connections and filter. All wiring connections are good and there is obviously power as it is working and sending fuel through. Pump was refitted but no change. Fuel lines all checked and inlet taken out and car fired up. Fuel comes out at full pressure before car dies.

Petrol has not been put in and no dodgy diesel has been put in that i know of.

Plans for the morning are to put back on computer to clear codes hopefully..maybe will help im not sure and also see if any new codes come up?

Stuck for what to do this has been going on 3 weeks and im really fed up and stuck without my car. thanks! Read more

Diagnostics Doc

Yeah defo look at the live data and look for key signal recieved or immobilizer inactive as the pump will always prime but wont cut in whilst cranking, need to check the crankshaft signal aswell but its important to check that the low pressure pump is delivering enough quantity and has a good flow rate to supply the high pressure pump, need a good 200 bar at cranking on the rail to open the injectors too

I've been having a search around to see what combination of circumstances triggers / engages the transient overboost on the TDCi motors.

Ford make a big play of this feature in all its tech specs, but so far I've only found fairly vague descriptions such as " it happens when full acceleration is required" or "under hard acceleration". Nothing technical, or more detailed about when it happens, and the circumstances.

I'd be very interested to know:

--> is it only triggered when the pedal is floored (similar to kickdown in an automatic)?

--> or is the ECU clever enough to give overboost if the pedal is 'stabbed' quickly, over a certain defined range of pedal travel?

--> is it only available in certain conditions (i.e. coolant / oil temp above a certain range, exhaust gas temp in a certain range etc)

I would have thought the driver has to actively initiate it with a determined right foot -- especially after the "unintended acceleration" lawsuit that hit Audi in the US in the 80s.

Any thoughts / input / links gratefully received. Read more

Hi All,

A little advice please. Over the weekend I noticed a very small bulge in the wall of the front tyre on SWMBOs car- about the size of a 5 pence piece in diameter and probably no more than about 2mm high. The thing that actually made me notice it was because it was actually on some wording on the wall which looked a little bit distorted.

She think she may have nudged the curb when parking recently- I know she wouldn't have hit it hard as she doesn't drive that fast!

With it being such a small bulge is it worth replacing the tyre? The tyre is about 3 months old and done about 1200 miles.

Thanks all. Read more

First thing to do is put the spare on and then go to garage/supplier.

HELP!,
My Kangoo (2000 1.9D) is overheating and losing it's coolant. After only a mile or so the temperature guage quickly rises to 3 quarters- then falls back to the centre in a couple of seconds. When I open the bonnet the coolant is down below the minimum mark. I put a new cap on the coolant bottle today (genuine renault part) but it has made no difference. The coolant is venting out of the cap- it is not leaking slowly but coming out all in one go.
I only had the car a few days- it has done 102,000miles.
I would be very grateful if anybody could tell me what to look at next. The fan is working okay and comes on a lot.
If it's the gasket- how much would that cost?
Thanks,
Mike.

Yeah, this will probably be my first and last diesel. Don't know why I bought another French car (had a citroen BX then a ZX about 10 years ago- nowt but trouble, '02 clio was ok though) but I won't make the mistake again.
Mike.

Looking at a low mileage Freelander, what at peoples thoughts and worries ? Read more

Well you will all be pleased to know, I didn't bother with a Freelander and chose a sensible Focus instead. Very pleased!

I have a Vauxahall Zafira 2.0 DTi Design 04 plate and recently I have had the engine management light coming on and when this comes on I am loosing revs no matter what gear I am in, this cleared when the engine was restarted and would clear for a short time.

Now the car is chugging and spluttering when driven and sometimes cuts out. I took it to a garage and they advised I change the fuel filter which I did and it lasted about 2 months and the same problems occured.

I then took it to another garage and they put it on a machine that gave me a code of P1222 - fuel injection pump invalid status malfunaction. What does this mean and what do I need to fix this? The vehicle is parked up at the moment as it will hardly drive at all. PLease help me thanks you. Read more

I have an 08 zafira petrol. It have been in the garage for 6 weeks due to a fuel oump fault.

I have been told that it is a problem across the fleet and until the problem is solved and new pumps manufactured I'm not getting it back any time soon. The time scale for the is problem is 'how long is a piece of string'!

Gave my A4 a good clean and wax yesterday as it hasnt been done for a while. I was a little concerned to find rust taking hold in the front wings. It is starting to corrode on the leading edge of the wheel arch infront of the wheel. It is like this on both sides.

At the moment it is only just starting to bubble and hasnt gone onto the side of the wing where you can see it but expect it wont take long.

The car is on a 52 plate and has never had any accident damage as its been in the family since new.

It has main dealer service history up to 100K miles and then had a service at 120Kish at a local independant VAG specialist. The !Service! indicator has just flashed up now at 143K.

Am I reasonable in expecting Audi to rectify this? I thought they were galvanised and didnt expect to be dealing with rust so soon. Read more

This is a surprising read for me, i was under the impression that VAG cars were very good rust wise.

I sort of thought they were still painted like the mk1 and 2 golfs, and plastered in thick gooey underseal all around the extremeties and exposed bits underneath.

Hope they didn't take a leaf out of the MB book of economies in production for year 96 onwards.

I have been very pleased with my Berlingo Multispace Forte 1.9 diesel which is 4 years old, but my confidence has been destroyed by my recent experience. On my way back to West Devon from Longleat I broke down. I lost power completely and luckily was on an A road rather than motorway and coasted downhill into a layby to await breakdown recovery. The fault was diagnosed as probable cambelt failure. As I have only done 17K and have a full service history I was somewhat shocked to hear the possible cost - up to £800. The 60 mile journey on a recovery vehicle cost £180. On enquiring at the local Citroen dealer where I bought the car new, I was told it was out of guarantee so tough luck (or words to that effect). The Citroen customer service in Slough said the same. However, friends in the motor trade tell me that I should pursue the matter on the grounds that the car is not fit for purpose and the cambelt should not fail after 17K. At present the car is at a small garage where it was towed to as the main dealer was closed by the time I got home. They have confirmed the diagnosis as best they can without stripping it down.
Can anyone advise me as to the best course of action? The vehicle will need towing again to get it to the main dealer. To make things worse I am going on holiday on Saturday for a fortnight but fortunately do not need the car. Should I make a nuisance of myself at the main dealer or just accept that these things happen and never buy a Citroen again? Read more

devonmaid

Well I spoke to the service manager and he was a bit miffed that the last 2 services were done by another garage (not a Citroen garage). He said the cam belt failure could have been caused by wear and tear on another engine part, such as the water pump or the alternator maybe damaging the cambelt. As a gesture of (begrudging) goodwill he said he would do the repairs at the warranty rate of £50 an hour instead of £60odd, but I would have to pay for the car to be towed across to them.
I've decided to write to the MD as suggested by the consumer advice section of the Office of Fair Trading and send it by recorded delivery. It will delay the repairs for a week or two but at least I will have done my best to get them to comply with the Sale of Goods Act.

Can someone who has a convertible enlighten me as to why people buy them.
I was out and about yesterday, 27 deg C and saw several convertable cars, soft and hard tops, with the roof UP ???? what's all that about then ?
When do you put the roof down ?

Sorry about that pug, I've only just clocked your question : )
Yes - they did come out about 77 and stopped production in the mid 80's.
They were used a lot by couriers as they had a reputation for going on and on and on.
The one I had was the Custom model which was imported from Iowa.
I'm not really a biker (as such), I was more into Lambretta's in the late 60's early 70's although I have owned a Suzuki GT 250 and a Honda 550/4, I've never actually passed my test on a motorbike, I did take it once upon a time but they failed me on not looking behind on a right hand turn, which I found to be a dangerous - being a car (van & lorry) driver who relies on his mirrors.
