Thinking of going to France/Italy, later in the year, in the 2005 1.3 multijet van.

Now I have the gendan fault code reader in the car I`m getting interested in what could be done to keep going in certain situations.

Questions,

1) Am I right in thinking the MAF, Turbo Boost sensor and EGR, can trigger codes, put the car into `limp mode` but not actually cause a breakdown?

2) I know that if the MAF goes faulty, I can read the code, pull the plug and carry on at normal power (out of limp mode) what about the boost sensor and EGR valve? Can they be electrically disconnected in limp mode to recover something approximating normal power?

( I`m thinking of it going into limp mode a long way from home in a remote area)

Any tips? in general for common rail diesels, if not for this specific engine.

Thanks

I filled the car up with with a mix of water and fluid but there is still nothing being dispensed through to the windscreen. Used a pin to see if there was a blockage but still not working. I cant fnd where the fuse would be as someone said it may be that or a kink in the coil but cant find it either.

You will need to remove the washer pump and clean out the small filter. Will need to partially remove the passenger side inner plastic wheel arch liner to gain access to the washer bottle and pump.

I'm looking to buy a small car which is mainly to be used in London. Both my daughters want to learn how to drive, so the vehicle must be easy to insure. I have £5,000 to spend.

I saw a 2005 Panda Eleganza at a Fiat dealer for some £4.5k and they would also give me a 1-year warranty in addition they would have the vehicle serviced and MOTed prior to delivery.

However, with similar or even less money I could buy a nearly new 2005 Corsa 1.2 Sxi, a Grande Punto, a Fiesta or a Mazda 2. There are loads around on Ebay, Autotrader, Exchange & Mart and so forth, often at ridiculously low prices.

Which one should I go for? My daughters want a new Fiat 500, but they are far too expensive at the moment.

Many thanks for your advice.

What's the best way to complain about a lack of service from a franchised dealer? I recently bought a nearly new car from a main dealer. They could only produce one key on the day of handover and promised to send me a spare as soon as they had found it. They have not done so and have failed to return calls etc. I have contacted the manager and he's as guilty (not calling back etc etc). I find this extraordinary in this day and age. I am pleased with the car, but wish I'd bought it somewhere else. These people have a commission out of me and now they're not interested. It is now 24 days. Who should I be complaining to? "Within a couple of days I'd have had another key cut using the available key
as a pattern"
Ah happy days when one could just go to a locksmith. Nowadays most of them
unless you get a really basic model are all computerised and part of a plipper.
Even if a newly-cut key fitted the door lock it would probably set off the
alarm.

OK, fair enough. However, when I ordered a new Ford key a couple of years ago it was in the parts department ready for collection the next day. I accept that the Toyota dealer hasn't been very courteous in not returning phone calls etc, but for the OP to wait 24 days and still not having got another key is ridiculous. I suspect the OP is more concerned at having a go at the dealer than actually getting another key. I believe in solving problems by the easiest and quickest way, especially if it will only cost me a few pounds to do so. I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face just to get "justice" and thereby satisfy my ego.

I have a faulty crankshaft sensor with a Bosch part number 0261210131. Can anyone advise the equivalent vauxhall part number.
Vauxhall dealership is not clear on the issue, indicating that they have always had trouble identifying the correct sensor. Electrical socket is rectangular with rounded ends, with a lug/box on bottom of the broad face of the plug with a sloping ramp on top broad face to latch on to receiving plug . Narrow side faces have protruding narrow rectangular lugs which run along the whole length of the narrow faces of the plug. At the sensor end there are two triangular buttresses either side of the hole used for the torx locating bolt.
From looking at diagramms provided by dealership the closest fit is vauxhall part number 90540743. This is for 2.6/3.0 litre v6 mine is a 2.5v6. I have owned car fron new and believe the crankshaft sensor installed was installed at build, certainly it has been running happily on the car for 70000 miles.
Thanks in advance for any help. Read more

As previously posted,I am not sure why there should be a problem at vauxhall dealers..All the sensors for these v6 engines are the same apart from the 3-pin plug.I can try and cross ref the Bosch # tomorrow.hth

Hi all
Thought I'd update you on the above problem. It was the Indicator switch. I bought myself a Haynes manual, ordered the part which came last week and have replaced it myself, took me about 3/4 of an hour and it worked 1st time. I'm really chuffed about it as it's the first time Ive attempted any repair on the car and it saved me abit of cash, so well pleased.
Thanks again for the advice on this 1st class forum.

Was under my Hyundai Coupe yesterday spraying Waxoyl on rusty tow bar and suspension and exhaust bolts.
Noticed a pressed steel box attached to the underside of the spare wheel well. Roughly 6" x 4 x 5" IIRC. Undersealed as per the car floor
Got four pressed drainage holes in it and a cable tie dangling. Without taking the spare wheel etc out and digging further, anyone got an idea what this is? I'm stumped.

A year later I was doing the same again. Looking even rustier this time and the exhaust forward of the replaced rear section is in poor condition.
I guess the Hyundai does not have an aluminized exhaust as per VW group?

It will soon be time to change by 530d touring and I will be looking to get a car with some off road abilities and about the same size as the 530.

I have decided that the idea of buying an expensive car in the hope that it might be better built and less prone to breakdowns is somewhat flawed so I really am not interested in a nice badge. However, with my current car, I do love the acceleration that it has, so I don't want anything to arthritic. I also am getting bored of spending so much at the fuel pumps so don't really want to go below about 38mpg.

My two front runners at the moment are:

Subaru Outback Diesel
Citroen C-Crosser

I will confess to not knowing much about either, apart from having a Mitsu Outlander on loan for a while. Seemed a nice car in town. I know that it isn't a mud plugger either but hope that it can manage more than a wet grass field. I have a feeling that the Outback might be too small inside but I haven't been in one since the new model came out.

I was also thinking Hyundai Santa Fe but too big slow and possibly too crude. I did also have a spin in the VW Toaureg 3.0d which was a nice drive but seems very expensive and 28 mpg is not what I want.

The car that I would really like, although again not the best off road but probably acceptably so, is the Audi Allroad 3.0d but they are very expensive.

Any cars that I should think about? (I think that the Nissan X Trail is going to be too small). Read more

rogue-trooper

thanks all for the thoughts.

short list

Citroen C-Crosser (seem to quite like the idea of this inspite of compromise of limited off road ability)
Subaru Outback (possibly Forester but not sure how big new one is)
Nissan X Trail (will have to look at interior space)
Hyundai Santa Fe (seems to tick all the boxes but not as sprightly as C-Crosser)
Jeep Grand Cherokee (if cheap enough 2nd hand then economy not a problem)
and possibly a Kia Sorento

As it takes me years to get motivated I have plenty of time to decide, but once I decide it happens pretty much that day! I suppose that I have to decide how much off road ability I really am going to need so will keep an eye on things.
