I am having a problem with the climate control circular switch on the dashboard. When I press it in onto the on position the a/c comes on and works fine but sometimes it won't switch off and I also can't change the temperature setting. This has now started happening more regularly and jams on the coldest setting and the hottest setting. If I adjust the temperature by a degree it starts to work again(the control switch that is).
Is there an easy solution please? Read more
I've found that it's almost impossible to stall a modern petrol engine. I've tried to do it deliberately (with the car stationary) by slowly letting up the clutch pedal with the car in 1st and the handbrake on and not touching the accelerator. All that happens is the engine management system compensates by putting in more petrol. When I eventually had to depress the clutch pedal the engine speed rose momentarily and than settled back to a normal idle speed. Somewhat different from what cars were like when I learned to drive in the late 1950s. Read more
My 2004 1.0 Yaris is incredibly easy to stall in reverse once the engine's warm, but is always fine in 1st gear. My 1994 1.0 Micra was much better for trundling along in traffic jams in 1st or 2nd without any throttle, the Yaris just keeps slowing down.
I can't remember if I've ever stalled my other car, a kit using a 2.0 Sierra Pinto with standard carb, but it is about 1/2 the weight of a Sierra.
Several years ago my brother drove a friend's Mondeo TDCI to Le Mans as a support car for a Marcos owner's club, and complained about how easy it was to stall. His daily driver at the time was a 1993 1.0 Fiat Uno which didn't run right when cold, so the Modeo must have been really bad.
Hi my Mondeo ST200 ABS and Traction Control lights don't come on when ignition lights are on.No sign at all.The traction control button doesn't even come on when pressed. However the handbrake light stays on when being driven.I've checked the relay in the fuse box compartment under the bonnet and also the fuse near to the glove compartment and both are fine.Could any one give me any info which results in the problem thanks

Is the handbrake light also a low brake fluid warning light? If so, then check the level.
My C3 can suddenly sound like a machine has been fired behind the dashboard for 10 secs. It can do this under all driving conditions. Cold start/hot start/idling/high speed/low speed/any gear. It is a sensodrive and before purchase, 2 months, has had 2 actuators and ECU fitted. Since then it has jammed in 5th gear. Been back to main dealer for reprogramming.

Had the same problem fixed by my local garage. I can't remember what it was but it wasn't much to get it fixed (boy was it worth it). Both main dealer and local garage knew what it was instantly so take it in!
Citroen dealer near me is advertising a C6 2.7HDI V6 Auto for £25,555.
Car has covered 20mls, is reg Dec 2007 in iron grey metallic.
Plus there's four years 0% finance if you can scrape a deposit of £8,950 together.
They say the price is 'unbelievable', what do others think? Read more
A colleague of mine used to persuade the company to buy him a series of Citroen XMs as company cars.
As the fleet manager said to me,"There is only one easier way to lose money than buying a large luxury Citroen... and that is to stand at a street corner handing out fifty pound notes to the queue that forms in front of you."
All suggestions accepted.
I'd like to get hold of a Mk1 Golf Cabrio which has been fully restored with an engine rebuild bringing it to almost 'as new' concours condition.
It's for my wife and I'd budget about 10k for such a car.
Having searched the net, decent cars don't seem to exist and the VW community seem to favour the standard GTi, the camper and the Beetle.
Where should I go to get one off the shelf ? Should I buy a nice non restored example and give it to a specialist to restore ? If so who ?
It's my view that if VW brought this car back as was it would sell. Read more
I'd search it thoroughly though !

According to www.europeancarweb.com/tech/0701_ec_flywheels/inde...l :
"Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF)
The OEM flywheel found in most modern manual transmissions (as well as semi-automatic transmissions like the Audi/VW DSG and BMW SMG) is classified as a dual-mass flywheel (DMF)."
hi there,
i bought an LPG converted Volvo v40 ('99) in Jan 2007. the dealer assured me the conversion was done properly but the very next day it went POP!
my girlfriend was so keen on the car we decided to just use it on petrol for a while until we could work out the problem, this was / is my first LPG car...
not long after we took it to an LPG specialist in Cardiff who seems / seemed like a genuine guy and i have no reason to dis trust him but in short we spent approx £500 having the front end of the conversion 're done'
it drove OK for a while until the 'backfires' from the air filter started again and on speaking to the mechanic he explained the original job was so badly done, that he'd have to re do the entire car to make it work properly.
NOT an option for a self employed musician!
2 replacement air filters / pipes later it still continues to backfire (FRONTfire?!) and conks out at low revs (always at the lights)...when on petrol it does not do this and drives OK.
i have no idea of how the gas system works and have an average knowledge of car mechanics....its like the gas 'pump' does not produce enough pressure......OR its not igniting correctly.
i'm getting very fed up of the continuing problem and have no / very little more money to throw at the car.
i can post pics or e mail to anyone who may be able to help!
many thanks in advance, si

I have been prompted to post on the basis of a fascinating description given by John S on how to repair the bracket that holds the engine top stay on an old style Mini, posted in technical.
His post was a form of literature that will soon be lost forever. He described a lengthy and complex repair involving relatively cheap parts that these days would not be done, the car would probably just be scrapped.
These thought come to me just now as I'm reading the biography of the late Fred Dibnah who preserved Victorian engineering for future generations. Who will preserve the motoring history of cars from the 50's onwards in the same way, if not us.
My own favourite memory is how the gearbox could be removed from inside the car on Triumph Heralds and Spitfires, allowing gearbox and clutch repairs. I recall one such repair on my Herald where the gearbox failure had been precipitated by the failure of a 4p circlip.
Once the box was out, with relative ease, it could be dismantled with no specialist tools. OK, the job took a few hours but was easy, fun and filled a boring Sunday for me.
Today, what would have happened? Recon box, scrap the car? Read more
I agree on reflection that great harm has been done by the deliberate, ostensibly health-related elimination of small, (relatively!) friendly local breakers' yards and the outfit like the one in Sussex that I used to pass that sold things like Unimogs, Bren gun carriers and once, memorably, with a price tag of £10,000 (or perhaps £20,000, a large round sum anyway) a wood-fired saddle-tank narrow-gauge steam loco, goodness how I wanted it, but the thought of the cost and labour of laying the track, as well as the problem of persuading my wife's family to have the thing in their woodland made me see sense... Just as well I didn't have the money though.

It is indeed the inconsistancy that annoys me. Had it flown off and given a driver head injuries ( for example ), everyone would say it should never have been allowed to happen but because it didnt and it was on a red car, its OK. Its not and for the sport to have any credibility, it needs uttermost consistancy which doesnt seem the case.
Wasnt it the Red Bull car that was investigated on the CHANCE that its suspension could break more than once? Whats the chances of Ferrari having to prove their exhaust system wont keep detaching? None because its Ferrari.

Think i had similar problem , are you sure you are not going into auto climate mode !
because just pressing the switch does not cancel , from memory think you have to adjust blower setting to activate , but , check hand book.
