Loaded the car up with rubbish and ended up tearing the head lining only a small tear of about one inch.

Need to fix it before she kills me!! Read more

It's too late she's seen it im going to be killed soon anyway! lol..
I see this referred to in many threads here. What exactly is it?

>>So it's fundamentally an old idea, just not made very reliably.
The big difference Cliff is that in the case of the DMF, the compliant element is part of the power transmission path. The devices you mention work as tuned mass absorbers, they absorb vibration stongly at one frequency, but there's no direct power transmission path across the rubber - the rubber's only driving a small metal ring, not the whole car!
It is that all the power must pass through the compliant element that causes all the trouble with DMFs. It's difficult to design parts which deform enough to absorb vibration and also have a decent fatigue life while handling full engine torque.
Hi Guys,
I have a 55 plate 407 1.6 HDI with a stereo that has no sound! Basically all the functions work, the volume is turned up and the mute is off but still no sound. I have tried both Radio and CD player to no avail.
Perhaps someone can suggest a fix?
Thanks,
Simon

Does anyone have any experience of both electric windows suddenly refusing to work in a Renault Kangoo (1999, 1.9d) or any car in general? The fuses are fine. The toggle switches that operate them however, dont seem to be receiving any power. It could be a long hot summer in this particular Kangoo!!

Hello
The Highway Code states:
DO NOT PARK in front of an entrance to a property? - Highway Code point 217
However, I'm not clear re having your droppedkerb partially blocked, ie, you want to turn left, but can't because a vehicle is artially blocking your drive & have to go right. Same scarion when reverse parking, you have to turn around & reerse park.
What about a high, big van parked right on the edge of your drive & making it dagerous to pull outas you are unable to see traffic?
All help appriciated.
Thanks Read more
Cheers all
I've laised with the 'Community Safety Uint' officers.
I willsee how things go & ay request they pay this fool a visit but fearful of bcklash as this fool does not regularly partially blocks drive.
After having negotiated a newly laid car park, with very fine stone, I seem to have picked up a stone (or two) between the disc and the protective backplate, on my front off-side wheel's disc brake assembly.
Most of the time I don't notice it, but then suddenly it seems to get picked up and then makes some temporary grinding noises and then suddenly stops. Will it eventually fall out as I don't want to just take off the wheel, which in any case might not enable its removal.

Happen twice to me in an Audi A3. Must be the geometry of the caliper. The Audi assist took apart the assembly to remove. Can to remember the stone, if limestone it wont do much damage, if flint it could ruin your disc
Hi guys.... Which is the cheapest way of replacing the windscreen with no insurance? is it possible to DIY? thanks

hi, it can be done diy but its not too expensive to have it done by independent mobile windscreen fitters. i was quoted between £75-£95 all in about three years ago. look in the back of an auto trader for local fitters.
I don't know if this site has the facility to do it but carrying out polls would be most interesting.
Now, I don't see this as polling on political issues, more on those issues relating to car reliability that cause so much concern.
I can immediately think of polling owners of cars with dual mass flywheels or common rail diesels to see what proportion had needed significant repairs. This would help put a lot of controversy into perspective.
On www.fiatforum.com/ they have this facility and it has revealed that nearly a quarter of Panda owners on the site have needed a replacement boot lid lock assembly due to a simple microswitch failure within the lock.
OK, it's not very scientific research but interesting all the same. Read more
Fair enough.
The polls did Gordon Brown no good either so we'll let it rest there.
I'm just about to order a new 6 Estate and was goin to order the diesel, but am having second thoughts on account of:
1) The increasing differential between petrol and diesesl at the pumps
2) There seem to be a lot of reports of the diesel only returning ~38mpg.
I'm after some feedback on consumption figures for the diesel and 2.0l petrol to help me decide.
My driving is mixed motorway (~80mph) and urban and I live in a hilly area, so I'm not expecting the best consumption in the world, but any mpg figures you've got would be useful as a reference point.
I'm also interested for anybody's feeling about whether the differentail between petrol and diesesl is likely to increase as fuel surges towards the predicted £1.50 per litre for unleaded.
Thanks for your help.

Just done two long trips from Leeds to London and Cambridge - 850 miles.
Worked out I was getting 44.1 mpg on average; never went above 70mph.
Steady dual carriageway driving with 3 people in car and a small amount of luggage.
This works out at 9p per mile based on petrol at 86.9p a litre.
Notice how bus and train operators are a bit slow to pass on their savings in fuel costs? My advice:
If you are travelling on your own take the coach; if more than one of you take a car.
Happy New Year !!
