Hi
Just bought a Corsa 1.5 TD today
Car runs well 1996 43000 Miles took it for a Good test drive
no Problems their. brought it home decided as it was near the Red mark on the Gauge might as well fill it up. Due to the Price of Diesel and the thought that it might go up again..
I thought Fill it to the Brim. Great drove it home parked up went for a Cuppa.
Came back about 30 mins later and noticed a Pool of fluid under the offside rear,
Diesel. Black Gold. might be at the price I paid for it.
So jacked it up had a look seems to be coming from on Top of the Tank where the Fuel pipes come from. problem is I cant see much with Tank being to close to the floor of the Car.
Will try and have a better look tomorrow.
But was wondering if anyone had come across this on a Corsa of this age before.
Thanks
for any help

..UPDATE..
Had another crack at it Today
did not get around to taking the Seat out and seeing if I could find the Inspection hole
for the Fuel Filter Pipes etc.
I Syphoned around a Gallon of Diesel out.
and that appears to have stopped the leak.
Was in Halfords earlier had a Look at the Haynes manual seems one of the Pipes I was looking at was a Vent Pipe, so I'm wondering if being a really Hot day yesterday. Car when i bought it was on the red I brimm it to the top could this have caused the Pipe to push diesel out ?

I'm now actively shopping for a berlingo. Ebay has a few at reasonable prices, but when it comes to checking the car there are various reports available.
HPI
MyCarCheck
AutoCheck

are the ones I've come across. Can anyone give me a quick run down on the key differences - which is best? I'm only looking at spending 3-4 K but even so some sort of guarantee would be handy.

Also - what about short term insurance? There used to be someone offering it free when you buy a car on ebay - is that still the same?

thanks

I wondered the same Tom, given that several are near identical (any one of them I'd happily have bought) I wonder if he works for a main dealer and is trading on the side with the PXs.

There are some pretty good reasons here for not buying a diesel. tinyurl.com/6gqsmm Read more

Rubbish. My 2 litre petrol Focus accelerates just as fast as any of the Focus
diesel variants of a similar year ~ 2003

Apart from the fact there was no 2.0 diesel Focus in 2003, and I was talking about the accelerative grunt rather than the stopwatch times, I take your point.

I suspect comparing a current 2.0 TDCi and 2.0 petrol would be a lot different. Similar 0-60 times due to the diesel not being able to hold each gear for as long, but compare the 50-70, 60-80 times, and also the feel of the thing when you just want to accelerate *now*, instead of swapping gears. 320NM of torque vs 185NM.

The other downside of course is that driving your 2.0 petrol in a way that will see the petrol engine's ability to rev overcome the diesel's massive torque advantage will net you about 25 mpg. You have to mercilessly thrash a modern 2.0 diesel to get much less than 40 mpg, but the point is you just don't need to.

We have both turbo petrol and turbo diesel cars in our household, and frankly for A to B, cut and thrust, point and squirt use, the diesel gives very little away. On open roads, or when squirting down a motorway slip and holding on to the gears, the petrol makes a much better case for itself. The petrol sounds far nicer though.

Has anyone experience of or does anyone know whether a camera van parked alongside a 2 lanes in each direction/central reservation dual carriageway trunk road (not on the central reservation) can legally carry out enforcement on traffic travelling in the opposing lanes (in other words across 2 lanes and the central reservation)
I ask as I have read cameras can be used multi directional but not on motorways and dual carriageways - each direction being a seperate site - although it may be that if the road has junctions this may affect the issue.

They can enforce from whatever side they like. BUT the angle of track has to be fairly minimal and unobstructed. Dont know what the maximum permitted angle is at this time.

I passed a motor spare/accessories shop today and they had a promotion of solar powered battery chargers. These are laid on the dashtop and plug into the cigarette lighter. Basically they seem like a good idea. However although I would not heitate to use one on an older car I was wondering about modern electrics with anti-theft and immobiliser circuitery. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of these? Read more

First thing you'd have to check is that your ciggy lighter was still live when the ignition is switched off. If not, then the small charge the solar panel produces isn't going to reach the battery.

Many years ago when I was a child, and also in my early motoring career, bank holidays usually meant a dash to the coast. I am sure in those days every town and largish village had public toilets available for when people needed a comfort break. Many of these seem to have been closed down or have gone completely, which can sometimes result in a fairly frantic search. Obviously there are now many out-of-town superstores but often their toilets seem out of order (and providing this service is not their main purpose in life).

These days there seem to be targets for everything and I was wondering if there was one for public toilets? My feeling is if there is it is not being achieved by most councils.

The hooded monster who jumps out from behind the bushes and rapes a stranger is, thankfully, rare.

Most victims know their attacker in some way, even if they may only have met that evening, at a friend's house or in a nightclub.

A lone woman in a layby late at night is obviously at risk of all manner of unpleasant behavior from passing males, but rape is unlikely.

The above could also be said of murder.

Apparently according to the press, labour politicians are calling the coming hike in road tax prices the poll tax on wheels and calling for a u-turn on its implementation. Anybody think the duty on fuel has any chance of coming down or is this as I think never happen. Read more

Just need a bit of advice please....

I need 4 new tyres for my car. Went to the tyre place this morning and said I want exactly the same as are currently on my car, which are Continental ContiSport M3, and which have a rating of 85W. So I've ordered the tyres and will get them changed on Tuesday.

Just looked in the handbook and it says to use tyres with a rating of 91V. So it looks like my current tyres don't actually agree to what's in the handbook.

Does this matter, please, or can I just use 85W? To get a higher rating will obviously be more expensive.

Thanks in advance Read more

Either should be ok.
