My Local independent ,has not managed to isolate this problem.
The BMW diesel looses its tickover when hot, i.e. on a fairly long run ,you might stop for traffic lights and the engine looses its smooth tickover when your foot comes off the accelerator ,it needs a blip on the throttle to recover the rhythm, itdoesnt always happen , any thoughts welcome. If you are facing still this problem then you need to change the engine because i think your engine time is over. you need to try the link deleted once.

My Transit works van has a 6000CDC radio and has recently stopped working.

There are no handbooks/manuals for the van or radio, where can I find the fuses for the radio.

If I need to remove the radio for any fuses at the rear, how do I remove it.

Thanks

The manual I have applies to all vans , chassis cabs, etc for 06MY onwards, so i am pretty sure it applies to yours.

The sketch in the book shows the box which you have taken the cover off. Put the lid back on it and remove the box complete.

The sketch shows clip at either end on the top of the box, (behind the clips which hold the standard relay box LID on)

They give a hint when refitting this box "Make sure you engage both clips when re-fitting the standard relay box. You have not fitted it properly if you do not hear a click".

Its probably dark down there, and if the clips are black plastic you may not see them?

my sister has asked me to do a small service on her Micra. Its been ages since I did car mechanics; I will have to change my A/F spanners for Metric!

As this is a favor, I don't want to shell out for a Haynes too.

The oil filter I can see at the back at the engine (Not nice and easy like on my old minis). I reckon I am going to have to grovel under and try & get my chain rachet round it. looks virtually impossible. Any advice.

Also I see the plugs have covers (I surmise coils are in there). Do these just pull off, or am I likely to break something. Will a normal plug spanner fit onto what I then discover? And plugs these days, do I need my feeler gauge.

She has had the same oil in for 15k miles (3 Years). I guess I better do a flushing job. Any recommendations?

Thanks all.

PS. I do not think I will be pouring the old oil down the drain like we did in the 70s! Read more

The air-con on my zaffy isn't working. I had it recharged sometime ago and when I switched it on, it was brilliant, really cold. I think there was a leak as when I can to use it again the following day, there was no cold air and I believe the coolant escaped. The compressor doesn't 'kick in' when you tirn it on and I have been told that this is a safety feature to stop it from working when there isn't any refrigerant. Does anybody know how much it costs to refill it again and is there anything I can do to check for where it is leaking from? Read more

Toying with idea of changing my 05 plate Mondeo 130bhp TDCi for a '57' plate Vectra 1.8 VVT SRi.

Around town running in the Mondeo typically gives me 37-38mpg, although this rises quickly if a bit of distance work gets thrown in.

I'm doing about 15,000 miles a year so, BIG QUESTION......

What am I likely to see day to day from the 1.8 VVT Vectra? OK, I know it won't pull from low revs like the Mondeo, but the VVT engine is supposed to be quite torquey low down.

So, if I go back to petrol, how big a hit will I take? Read more

I've had several of the 1.8vvt Vectras on rent, and given them long runs on business trips. Zeroed the computer and found they deliver 38 to 40+ in that sort of use (backed up by the fuel fill up). Seriously impressed with that. Oddly, my Astra Sri with the 1.8vvt can't get anywhere near the Vectra consumption - best I've seen is 35.5 on a decent run, and I believe that's typical. However, it has lower gearing, much sharper throttle programming and generally feels quicker. I can only assume the Vectra aerodynamics are better than the Astra.

Annoyingly the vvt has worse fuel consumption than my previous Astra 'G' non-vvt 1.8!

Hi

I'm looking for some advice as i'm a bit lost with all this insurane stuff.

My Husband was hit on a roundabout by a van cutting across lanes and it dented all the front wing. It's a N reg Polo.

The insurance company has written it off, saying because it will cost £1k plus they will not do it. We are not in a situation to be able to just go out and buy a new car, even with a settlement offer which I'm sure would be tiny.

The van drivers insurnace company have not even had the accident reported to them, the first they knew was when my husbands company contacted them.

My questions are
a) Are we legally allowed to still drive it? Is it still insured?
b) How can they "write it off" when its just cosmetic? He's been driving it since the accident until they collected it for repair.
c) Surely it's the other insurance company who should be paying for it, it was the van driver who was at fault, why should we have to lose out for his driving.

I hope that makes sense, as I said i'm not big on insurance and it's ins and outs.

Thanks for any advice Read more

In the past I've put in my own quote for damage to my vehicle not caused by me:
"To repair at my own cost, or loss of value, at my discretion".
This was cosmetic damage to a bangernomics vehicle. My quote was the lowest. The insurance coughed up pretty promptly!

Just noticed a fairly large puddle of steering fluid under my daughters 2002 Ford KA, does anyone know whether this means it needs a new rack and if so what the likely costs will be? Read more

the leak is most likely coming from the prssure switch - which is located in the pipe line just under the radiator ... about £30 pound from ford direct ....

I've asked about this within another thread but I think it may have got lost.
I'm a great fan of Copper-based grease and find that its greatest property is to prevent seized parts.
However, does anyone know if it contains sufficient Copper to provide good electrical conductivity, or do the other ingredients of the grease reduce this conductivity? Read more

FotheringtonThomas

Try Rocol J166, which also contains graphite (ISTR it used to contain lead powder, too). It's fantastic. No idea whether it's particularly conductive, though. It might perhaps be of help if the particles of copper are squashed between threads or whatnot, I suppose.

Hi, my alloys don't clean up as well as they used to. What products do you use to get yours gleaming? Mine now have the usual tar marks and inside the wheel there's a rusty brown looking ring from muck coming off the discs. Any clues? Read more

Tesco's AWC works fine, it's £1.99.
Most of the time I just use a strong (4:1) mix of Daisy All Purpose Cleaner, leave it to dwell and they come up fine.
Poorboy's Wheel Sealant is a highly rated product to protect them once they are clean - makes them easier to clean up too.

My 36K miles 2 litre (136) diesel 407 occasionally shows signs of a slipping clutch (revs increase, speed does not) at around 2-3,000 rpm in 4th and 5th gear. Peugeot are wriggling (unable to get it to slip) and as yet have not admitted that there is a fault. They are saying that if the clutch is slipping because of 'fair wear and tear' that I will be faced with a £700+ bill. For a 2 year old clutch?

Has anyone experienced the fault before and successfully had the clutch (or dual mass flywheel!) replaced at Peugeot's expense?

I understand that under 20K miles it's automatic that the clutch is replaced - but above 20K - who knows!

All comments are really appreciated.

Kind Regards

Hugh

Hi, i am also experiencing slipping clutch problems on my 05 407sw 136 hdi. It has covered 120k but had the fly wheel and clutch replaced at 105K miles. making a grand total of 15K miles on a new clutch! The work was performed by the garage I bought the car from, which is an independant dealer in york. I bought the vehicle dec 08 and the slipping started at the weekend (23-jan-10). Would i have any rights to take this back to the garage/peugeot. I was assured at the time that genuine Pug parts were being used.

Thanks in advance
