Hi there.
The first thing i would appreciate help with is that more often than not when i am cornering/going around roundabouts etc my saxo makes a sort of rattling/ticking noise. I must admit i dont really know that much about cars. Could anyone please give me some ideas as to what this might be and how i would get it fixed (cost etc)
Secondly, i have only really noticed it today but the car sounds louder than it should, or used to be. I wound the window down to hear it properly and it sounds like the car is really struggling. it seems at its loudest when i am pulling away, but even when its standing still it doesnt sound right.
I hope i've explained this well enough and i would be most grateful for anyhelp you could give me.
Cheers! Read more
thanks guys. I'll take everyones advice here. I think the dodgy exhaust makes sense because it had to be re attatched a while ago because my cousin said it had come away from the back box (or omething like that) so maybe it wasnt done properly and its causing the rattling because its still loose. I'll go and gt it looked at. Thanks again for all your help
Hi,
I have around £1500 to spend on a car. It MUST be automatic and I'd prefer a hatchback over a saloon. Something with a little bits of guts too...I don't want any 1L cars. If I can get one with less than 750000miles too, that would be great. Two cars that I'm looking at the moment are:
1. 2000 Nissan Almera 3dr hatch 1.8SE 60000miles. I've looked at a 5 door hatch and felt it was a little big for me, as 95% of the time it will be just me in the car with the scuba gear.
2. 1997 VW Polo 1.4 3dr hatch 30,000 miles
There is another car on autotrader that I really like ( a vectra) but I've rang & left a message and sent 2 texts to the advertiser and haven't heard anything back. I don't want an astra as I hate the interior of them and also don't like driving them.
Any opinions about the two cars above - which you would go for, or any other cars you think would be a good deal.
Thanks!

Oooh funny you should have started this thread :)
Have just posted something that might suit your needs (alternative?) in the Classifieds.
(I hope I have not contravened any Forum rules by posting the above?)

Im not plain stupid, just a special kind of stoopid.
Seen this system 'TALEX' named on this forum in another thread.
A few of you said that you use such devices.
This is new technology to me!
I ask those more knowledgeable to elaborate as in: What devices (manufacturer) do you use, plain simple and easy to use and who was the supplier please?
Is this viable technology?
Would you also provide a link and the contact details of your supplier too please.
Found this compnay on line: www.speedcameralocator.com/promo/
Anyone heard of or had any dealings with them?
I called and spoke to their office. The guy on other end of phone just was not as familiar with the product as I would have liked him to have been.
Just offered me a 30 day money back agreement if I was not happy with the product?
Good sales patter eh?!

My 407 Coupe has got heat reflective glass (not heating elements in the glass). Apparently
this can cause problems with the antennas. True or false?
True - I have a Cit C5 which has the same heat reflective windscreen as the 407. A few years ago I bought a Drivesmart system to do the same job as a Talex, and placing the antenna / receiver on the dash or in the bottom corner of the windscreen resulted in virtually no signal.
There is always a small section of the screen that is not covered though, it seems - on mine it is the shaded area in the top centre of the screen, behind the rear view mirror.
I needed an antennae with an extra long wire, so I could feed it all the way round the windscreen, tucking the wire under the small gap between screen and interior roof trim, before fixing the antennae to the w/s using a sucker thingy. It was supplied by Drivesmart f.o.c. when I complained about my lack of signal (I had put the question to them directly before buying), and it works ok.
The back part of the exhaust on my Suzuki Ignis 1.5 Sport (2004 -04 plate) has snapped and the mechanic who welded the 2 bits together told me that the bracket part was totally corroded and the rear part of the exhaust would need replacing. An expensive job as it's a special order, £300+ just for the back part, apparently (according to ATS difficult to get hold of).
1) Is this "normal"? (I have only done 20,000 miles)
2) Could I expect any goodwill gesture from Suzuki? (on the grounds that it should last a little longer!)

One of the site adverts currently boasts that the Nissan Note has 'Friendly Lighting'.
What on earth is that? Read more
PU, you've got to master the art of clicking your fingers and pointing a finger at the car a fraction of a second before the lights go off.
Adds to the pose factor if you blow across the top of your finger afterwards ;o)
referring to "blondegypsy" posting of 25nov07 & subsequent responses, in particular Vauxhall dealership experiences. Have a 2002 Zafira 2.0dti manual gearbox with a warning light, symptoms being loss of power when accelerating, more noticeable in lower gears. Had independent diagnostic check with following fault codes reported (PO606-PCM processor fault) and (PO704-clutch switch input circuit fault). Advised to replace the ECU. Not contacted a Vauxhall dealership as yet, any advice from members of what to expect if/when I do. Is there an alternative to dealing directly with a Vauxhall dealership for this problem, i.e an independent (northwest Lancashire area). Any issues with continuing to use this vehicle for the timebeing? Thanks in advance & All the best to forum members for 2008. Read more
If it does turn out to be the ECU at fault then it may be worth considering the likes of BBA reman, who can fix ECUs I believe as well as supply new ones:-

My second hand 1.9 TDI is on variable servicing and the service indicator has now come on for the first time in my ownership. I would like to keep the car on variable servicing but dont like the high costs of the main dealer, whilst i can change oils and filters and check belts i need to acess the OBC? port to stay on variable servicing. Is there anyone out there selling the appropriate cable and software to do this.

VAG have seen the light and quietly dropped variable Long-life servicing - unless the customer actively demands it. It just caused too many problems.
Reset it on the dash buttons and stay on the 10,000 interval that will give - that's more than long enough for the oil.
Hi. I have a budget of £6500 to spend and toying with the Nissan Primera. Looking at model that is a 2004 onwards with a low to medium mileage. The question is : are they any good? They seem to have a good spec, but unsure of handling and power. I want something with decent handling and a bit of poke. Any alternative suggestions? Any help would be great! Thanks Read more
Renault had nothing whats soever to do with the engines or the rest of the car come to that ,common faults are a PAS hose leaking cheap to do but a sod to get at and a metal plate snapping that holds the gearchange cables on the top of the gearbox.Very straight forward cars easy to repair and loads better than the previous model to own and run try them both then you will see the enormous difference, make sure you get the SVE as it has the sat nav as standard.
I am looking for a reliable LPG authorised service station in South Yorkshire as all of my local Vauxhall dealerships are now dropping servicing all dual fuel vehicles.
Something to do with with software updates on their diagnostic equipment not being available.
Any pointers please?

Thanks James - will rummage the sites to see what I can find.
Yep, very disappointing. I thought they may have changed the route slightly to avoid problems, but to cancel the whole shebang... :o(
