Dakar 2008 Cancelled - T Lucas
The great Dakar Rally has been cancelled due to terrorist threat.Very disappointing.Fav motorsport event,always brightens up January.

I really enjoy this event, as I do all motorsports.

Would be an event that if I had the monies, I would most certainly like to have a go at as a novice racer and with just the sole intention of completing.

Just to be able to say, 'I did that!'

Bit of an adrenaline junky this one.....

What a disappointment !

It's one of those things that make January bearable. I always look forward to a couple of weeks of heroism, technical intrigue, determination, tenacity and spectacle set against a majestic backdrop of natural splendour. The machinery ! The characters ! The sand !

Above all I shall miss the Eurosport coverage, Carlton Kirby's enthusiam make him synonymous with the Dakar in my mind as Murray Walker was to F1.

A great shame for all involved. I thought that this was one event that the Health and Safety posse couldn't spoil but I guess they believe that the treat is real enough and nobody wants to see competitors or spectators injured or worse by outside agencies.

Yep, very disappointing. I thought they may have changed the route slightly to avoid problems, but to cancel the whole shebang... :o(
