I know that one piston ring is definetly collapsed on my Ford Fiesta 1997 R reg.
I did use some piston sealant on it, which has stopped the excessive smoke and generally made it run a lot better. Starts first time now and doesn't miss fire anymore. Drives well.
However, the engine is still a bit noisy, I wonder if anyone might suggest anything that might make it a bit quieter? Im told that adjusting the tappets could help?.................
Thanks

If the engine is very tappety sounding, it could be the cam followers. They are very prone to wear.

That's the one; the secret is holding it in before turning on the key - then follow the instructions above.

Auto versions can be a pain; you may still need a scanner to reset this one.

Every time it rains hard,my 1998 Saxo i.i x cuts out at low revs when approaching junctions, roundabouts etc.

Gas was playing up so I switched between Petrol/Gas a few times and now car won't run on petrol at all. When switched to petrol car will not start, starter turns but not firing at all. But it Starts and Runs on gas ok after about 5 second starter delay.

I have checked fuel pump and relay - both ok. Doesn't seem to be a seperate fuse for the ignition system. I've checked all the main fuses and all intact.

Any suggestions on what else to look at? Read more

Well, with all the technologies about that are prommising to save the world, trust the French and Indians to come up with this one!

Far too many curries if you ask me! Despite my current 3.2l my next car has to be greener, this hits several targets:

Range
Time to refuel
Cost to refuel

I have a Y reg Honda Civic 1.4

The clutch has just failed. Before I go and get quotes what would be a resonable amount to pay for a clutch change? How many hours labour is involved?

The car could also do with a cambelt at the same time? again what quote should I be aiming for? Read more

Aprilia

You are looking at 3.5-4.5 hours for the labour and a bit more than £100 for a decent clutch kit (not OE, but something like LUK). So I would say something in the region £280-400 depending on how much you are paying for labour in your part of the world. Of course, if you go to a franchised dealer and have the OE part fitted then you could be looing at up to £700.

As a follow on to the "Police with attitude" thread. While working alongside the police (a shift of 12 servicemen and 2 police) for a few months, one quiet evening we were ribbing the cops about harrassing poor innocent sailors returning from the pub. The result was a poll, as in subject. Only one of us had spoken to a cop inthe last year (speeding ticket), current job accepted. The police told us this is normal for the vast majority of the law abiding public, and they had their regular "customers" who they knew well and saw on a regular basis. Read more

Need an alternator for my AX GTI (1.4) and have seen one second hand going cheap. However it is from a 1.1 Memphis AX. Would this alternator be suitable for my car?

Many thanks
