Recently was approaching tunnel anti-clockwise when radio said M25 closed at Dartford and M11 north closed. Turned around and went clockwise past Heathrow and up A1. Thankfully had enough time to be able to do this.
Not only do they start advertising the Fabia vRS just as I decide I want one, but now they're causing me to question the way I speak!
I pronounce Fabia with a short 'a' sound, like you get in 'fab' or sometimes with a long 'a' sound, like you get in 'cave'. On the advert though, the voice-over bloke has discovered an 'r' in the word that I hadn't noticed and pronounces it 'Farbia'. He does the same with Octavia and pronounces it Octarvia.
Have I been doing it wrong all this time?

A mate of mine came in the other day and said 'I'm going to buy a brand new Rover for £4,000'. What! a Cityrover? - Yep.
Forget it I said, buy a car from a company likely still to be in business next year. The local Rover dealer is selling Cityrovers for silly money to silly people.
I said go look at the Panda or Getz. He only does about 50 miles per week at most. Into work and home is 7 or 8 miles per day plus running around at the weekend. Anyway, there were some great deals on Getz's a few weeks ago but don't remember where they were - can anyone remember?

I have been toying with the idea of replacing the pads and disks on my PUG. From the S/H I gather that the discs are genuine and have covered some 65k (genuine!) miles from new, while the pads were last replaced @ 35k. By reading through the forums here (and not wishing to re-hash old topics) and my own 'real life' driving experience, I accept that the PUG doesn't have the best of brakes. Since I believe I have factory original discs with aftermarket (Unipart?) pads the braking is OK - not awful, but not great. So I've always thought about upgrading the discs and pads.
Upon checking my brakes today I found the pads to be very close to wear and a definite (but even) 'lip' on the discs. So I ordered a set of EBC Turbo Grooved Discs and Greenstuff Pads (whole lot cost £135 all in)...but logging on tonight I see the 'offer' from CPD Re: Rossini disks.
While I wait for my pads and discs to arrive, I'm interested to hear from fellow Backroomers if they have any particular opinnions either way and if you have any recommendations for particular disc and pad combinations?
I'm not going to modify my PUG so a 'big brake' conversion is out of the window etc. my only objective is to get 'better braking' from my PUG which I do tend to drive enthusiastically between the many roundabouts here in Milton Keynes. My aim is to keep the car original and regularly serviced in the hope that if I treat it right I can also have a little fun in it without fear of failure.
Any fellows out there who could share their experiences and comments as to if I have made the right choice by selecting EBC or should I go for the Rossini offering - or even a third alternative?
Many thanks ... Read more
I have EBC Turbo Groove discs on my Rover 820 Turbo. I used them initially with Green Stuff and would say that this combo would be ideal for you. There was a significant improvement in braking power right from cold. And virtually no dust. Previously the car had Tarox discs and Mintex pads.
I've since changed to EBC Red Stuff, because that is what is recommended by EBC for my car because of its weight (1425kg) and performance. These are not as good cold, but they are stonking once warmed up and despite trying very hard I haven't experienced any fade yet. The Red Stuffs are also kinder to the discs because they take more of the thermal load themselves - important on my car because R800s are prone to warped discs. there's more dust though.
Advice sought again.
Having previously sought advice on a new car, I'm due to pick it up in the next week or so and will be selling my Seat Toledo privately.

Decent conditon, save for a few stone chips at the front due to spending its life on the motorway.
Sat Nav included - as it was ex demo.
It will be sold with 12 month MOT (due to go it tomorrow) and 6 months tax.
I've checked the price guide on Autotrader and it suggests that it's worth £3600 for a private sale. To be honest, I'd be over the moon to get that for it. However, having checked the trader for cars of that age / mileage, it seems about right.
What do others think - is it worth that much and will anyone realistically pay that much.

Red not a popular colour for these cars. High mileage puts off the punters, motorway or no (and lets not have that debate again) I would say if anoyone offer you £3,000 pull their arms off.

new one ordered under warranty - although had some "debate" with the ford dealer who insisted they wouldn't do anything with the car until we produced the service history book (forgot to take it with us). After trying to explain that it wasn't necessary because the CD player is a non-serviceable item dealer insisted NO SERVICE BOOK, NO WARRANTY WORK.
Resolved situation by calling FORD PROTECT who echoed my view, had to phone dealer back to tell them exactly how their own warranty scheme works !!!
From my experiences though another example of typical Ford customer service

Bit of envy there Pug?Don?t all Sheriffs look like that?.
I like watching John (boy) Bunell although they all seem repeats.
However when he gives his monologue, warning all us would
be criminals that we can run but can?t hide from the
worlds finest, he does so remind me of a series in
the dim past.
Was it Broderick Crawford in Highway Patrol or the old Dragnet
of the 50s/60s.
Whoever it was he used to give a similar little sermon
on how would be criminals can be sure to have their
collar felt by the forever vigilant, finest trained, never sleeping plod.
It certainly kept me on the straight and narrow ??.

Since we have covered lorries, caravans, cyclists already can I add motor bikes to the equation?
I know there are many bikers in the backroom but can you tell me why oh why oh why do bikers need to undertake / overtake / zig zag and do whatever else they want to on the road??
Don't get me wrong, I am not totally anti biking and I have no problem with them slowly edging their way to the front of stationary traffic queues.
However I do object to them weaving in and out of motorway traffic that is doing 70mph. Do they think there is an extra lane for them that is on the dotted line? I had a close one last night having overtook a car on M8, looked in mirror, signalled and pulled in to inside lane just as motorbike went whizzing past on my inside. When driving at night I look in mirror and brain automatically checks the headlights in each lane. It is very hard to distinguish a motorbike headlight travelling between the lines of traffic.
So bikers, why do you do this? Have you a death wish? You will always come off second best, even if it is a car driver's error. So why not sit in the line of traffic? Does the huge adrenaline rush you get from swerving in between cars continue on whilst you are lying on the stretcher in the ambulance? Read more
The bikers that I cannot understand are the guys who join the queue at traffic lights, roundabouts etc instead of going straight to the front.
It is often someone riding a sports bike, I wonder if it is a problem with low speed handling?
Yes, I don't know where you are either but I've recently purchased from Douglas Valley salvage, very good, room for negotiation and delivery.
