New here so greetings to all.

I was wondering what the general view is of Redex additive? My diesel Citroen ZX rolled over 250k a month ago and apart from doubling the frequency of oil changes I've always chucked in some Redex on a regular basis, a habit inherited from my father who loved the stuff. I wonder if its contributed to the Citroens trouble free engine life or have I wasted my money?

I thought that it would be adviseable to let all the megane/renault drivers on here know that there is a problem with the high pressure fuel pump with renault. I have recently had problems starting my 54 Plate megane and took it into the dealers last week thinking that the injectors were clogged up or something. I received a call back later that day that kind of shook me up.....

It turns out that the high pressure pump had started to dis-intergrate and that it needed replacing, little did i know what they meant when they said that. (Nowt against the garage as they didnt quabble or moan)

Everything, yes, everything that is connected with the fuel system is being replaced as when the pump disintergrates small pieces of metal are moved throughout the whole system, thus they are replacing everything, the costs they have indicated are in the region of £2500, (They even thru in a courtesey car for free). A big toot for Parks, Kirkcaldy !(Sorry if im not allowed to put that down, but wasnt sure)

This is being placed here to let the other megane users know there is a problem and if their car is not starting first time, take it quickly to their dealer. The second reason is, the car is still under guarantee, but what happens say next year as its getting close to the end of its warranty !!!

Re the metal shards, presumably the shards are steel? If so it should be possible to trap these with a high powered neodymium magnet. Not rocket science is it?

A friend of mine alleges a friend of his had his aircon re gassed for £30 using a fitter who worked on milking parlour tanks. Says it works fine! The air con on my Rover needs regassed - best/cheapest?

If you're in the Surrey area, I can recommend a guy on HJ's list - Chilly Willy. My 1998 Xantia suddenly stopped blowing cold. He came to my home, checked for leakage and then regassed it. The job took a little over an hour and cost me £65 (or there abouts)

Yet more confusion over the correct oil for an Accord 2.2i-CTDi diesel.
Honda specify a fully synthetic 0w-30 oil to minimum specification ACEA B1. I bought some Comma Syner-Z fully synthetic 0w-30 to specification ACEA B3/B4 assuming this was correct. I'm now told by Comma that this isn't suitable because this oil is 'only' to spec. B3/B4. Comma even suggests that the correct oil is a 5w-30 semi-synthetic despite Honda's statement in the handbook. I've looked carefully at all the info on this forum and found that B1 is a 'Fuel Economy Diesel' oil and B3 is for 'High Performance and/or extended drain' requirements. Also, I can't find any oil spec. from other manufacturers that combines fully synthetic 0w-30 with B1.
I'd be very grateful for comments. Read more

After topping up the washer bottle, I discovered that I can't close the bonnet properly. I can slam it down real hard, but it just won't catch fully.
It does catch enough to hold it down, but not down fully. I've tried spraying WD40 over it, but to no avail. Any tips?

Thanks - No I am removing the key - but I can't garantee that's always been the case - maybe the damage is already done! When turning the key to the left, it used to automatically lock the vehicle doors - it no longer does this. I'm not sure if this is an electrical or mechanical problem.

I have a 1997 model with only 56K miles on it, which has been regularly serviced. On cold days (under 5 degrees C) it takes 2 or 3 goes to start for the first time. In warmer weather, or being re-started later there is no problem at all.

The hot plugs were checked by a Peugeot dealer last winter and found to be ok, but they had no further suggestions on the cause. The fuel filter was changed at 42k Miles. I would be grateful for any ideas as to what may be going wrong.

I had intermittent problems traced to the controller, in this case it was dirty or warn relay contacts within the controll unit.

Its a bit of an issue prising the cover of, but once done the single contact pair are accessable & easialy cleaned with fine wet and dry....

I seem to have completely lost the use of my remote key fob. The range was getting shorter and shorter so I replaced the battery which helped for a while - then it became erratic when it worked.

Yesterday it stopped working all together. I've tried reprogramming the remote using the Ford procedure but the fob doesn't seem to respond in the programming mode.

Is this a common failure point? I've seen the fobs on EBay so I'm now wondering if I should try and get a second hand one and reprogramme that instead. Has anyone tried doing that? I know you can programmer the trandsponder and the remote locking transmitter seperately so in theory it will work! Read more

Yes but for £130 ,I got a second remote key for Mondy, with no hassle, no looking up anything, all keys work and job done.
Time/skill costs money and that's life I suppose.
Do they really work on a DIY, what if they are all pink fluffy diced up?

I put my car (1999 BMW 318ti Compact) in for a service at a main dealers 3 months ago. On the list of faults they provided, one was that both rear shock absorbers needed replacing. The service lad said they were both 'leaking'. They quoted £157 plus vat.

I didn't get this done because I knew my MOT was coming up so thought I'd wait until the MOT confirmed it. It passed the MOT.

I assumed that leaking rear shocks is an MOT fail - or am I wrong? If so, it would seem that I may need further advice on how to tackle this eager-to-do-work dealer. But first, I need to check whether the apparently leaking shocks should have failed the MOT.

Could well be that it was a minor leak and the first garage wiped off the oil. At the subsequent MOT there was therefore litle evidence on which to fail the car. Depends how fast the oil is leaking out, but visible leakage is a sign of impending failure, both of dampers and MOT.

Hello all,

I have an accord, 2000 (X) and was wondering how reliable the cambelt set up on these are? It is the 2.0 vtec engine (petrol)

The service interval is 70k, but i don't really like to leave a cambelt this long. It has 50k up now and i was thinking of getting it done now. Any opinions?

Also - what should i expect to pay for this at an independent?

Thanks alot grease monkey. Just the replies i was looking for!

I don't think i will be changing the coolant myself, although i am half tempted... Surprisingly the manual gives instructions for changing the coolant, i was very surprised to see this as i assumed manufacturers want you to take the car to them.

I may give it a go as it doesn't seem to require any home made header tanks like some systems. Any tips for that job Grease monkey?

Thanks again
