i know , i know! its bound to have been the subject of many a thread, but i found a photo of my first car today, my little red vw polo . so i thought hmmmm thats an idea, so come on first cars and there good and bad bits.
my polo was one of these formel e models that cut out when neutral was selected at low speed and started when 1st was selected, i had no idea and thought it was a bizzare wiring fault.
so anyone got any thoughts on there first cars?

I have just bought a 2002 Volvo S80 and am wondering if it is possible to run the car without the full headlamps on? I find that if I turn the rotary switch to parking lights when driving only the side lights come on then, but in this mode it is all to easy to leave the lights on all the time. I also find I get a warning bong bong noise when I turn on the ignition.
I'd appreciate hearing from any other S80 owners on how best to run the car headlamp wise
Thanks in advance Read more
You can switch the DRLs (Daytime running lights) off, but only by paying a visit to your dealer.
The DRLs are infact the normal dipped beam circuit but software controlled by one of the several on board computers to be permanently 'live'.
Your dealer can connect your car to VADIS (Volvo Aftersales Diagnostic and Information System) or the new replacement called VIDA (Vehicle Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales) and perform the change.
You may get away with a freebie but £20 or so is normal.
Hi all,
Got a message on our answerphone from a chap who has apparently bought our old MINI. Seems genuine enough, but I was wondering if by calling him back to have a chat about it I was heading into unforseen peril.
The only thing I can think of to try and route out rouge-dom is to call him (withholding our number) and saying I'd called about the car.
If the car has gone to a good home it would be interesting to have a chat with this chap but am I heading into some kinda scam?!
Any comments, as ever, much appreicated.

If anyone sees a pure silver/black MINI Cooper around Grantham with
the reg YE52 then give him a flash, it's our old

The poor chap will wonder what's wrong with all these strangers flashing him!
The alarm on SWMBO's 2001 Yaris was being continously set off during last night's downpour. I presume due to the (very) heavy rain. In the past I have noticed that it does seem very sensitive and will go off at the slightest provocation.
Is there a way to reduce the alarm's sensitivity?
The owner's manual talks about the immobiliser and the remote central locking but nothing about the alarm system.
TIA. Read more
Errm does that mean my 2001Y 1.0 CDX has an alarm ?

Per entry above, I promised to let you know - so am pleased to advise that the MICRA has been sold. Took longer than expected and no joy from local Photo-Motors. Re-advertised last week in free ads at a lower price and sold to first viewer.
A few nervous moments as the buyer was a Fred Dibnah engineering type buying for daughter. He gave the car a thorough going over but seemed happy at the end of the day. I thought price was pretty good considering mileage and relatively short MOT.
For the record: Micra 1.0 Inspiration 3dr Silver. 1999T 73k MOT/Tax March 2006 = £ 1,575
Hi guys, My 54 regd Golf , which has done 13k seems to be using a fair bit of oil. I have done 6k in it in about 3 months, mostly motorway miles and the low oil level light has come on twice now, so i have now added 2 litres of oil (0w 30 VW longlife oil). I know its quite a new engine but is this usage excessive? It has been back to VW who say there is no leak, and there is certainly none on the drive. Any help is appreciated! Read more
When I had my 2000 golf gt tdi 115. The oil needed toping up every 5000 miles.
Morning,
This car might be a possible replacement for the hated A6. Like a good boy I've read the CbyC, the comments on the owners club site and the thread from Dec 03 on this, just wondering if anyone has any recent experience. I'd be looking to spend max £12k which puts me in Y/51 plate territory before haggling.

Hello,
Recently a noise has started in under the steering wheel, its similar to the noise the indicators make, although it clicks on and off for no apparent reason.
Was wondering if this could be an earthing issue? I thought that it might be the indicators flashing randomly though when the noise occurs at night I cant see the indicators flashing? Noise only happens when the car is moving to.
Any Ideas, ive had a search through the forums and cant find any previous posts,
Cheers

No, you don't.
On the Xantia there is a piece of "rubber" sheet which moves with the indicator stalk to keep the hole in the steering wheel shroud covered. I managed to carefully "bend" this to one side with a thin screwdriver and "wangle" the thin plastic pipe on the spraycan somewhere adjacent to the switch and give it a generous dose!
It worked on mine, I hope you have the same luck.
Whilst reading the post on an imported Renault Scenic from Cyprus, it struck me that this site did not have a central register of telephone numbers for Manufacturer's Customer Services. There is a list in FAQ's for brochures and websites.
Please add any telephone numbers you have used.

A 1000% reliable 1966 Mini-sold locally in 1971. Saw the car again in a nearby car park 5 years later with a for sale card on windscreen!...nearly considered buying it back. The car that replaced the 1966 model in 1971 was a grossly inferior new Mini 850 --everything that could go wrong with a car went wrong with that car during the guarantee period and beyond. Gave up and bought a new Renault 4....bye bye British Leyland--for ever
