What a pain......
local press.......... no luck so far after over a month, one caller so far asked all the right questions, arranged to come and view, no show!
i have lost count of the calls from car matching cowboys telling me they have buyers waiting to buy my car if i just cough up £80 first to register!
fish 4 cars........ nothing!
so im thinking of auto trader? or am i just going to get even more car matching cowboys?
i've never tried the auctions but im thinking of it?
and even ebay, has any body else had good results from ebay?

What is the car? Have you priced it too high?
|
Apaprt from price, is hte description up to snuff.
I have used autotrader and loot - both to good effect.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

I haven't paid to advertise a car in years as I have always had success with the Loot type publications.
My top tips would be an honest description in the ad and when someone phones you up, and price the car competatively. I want to get shot of my old car ASAP and am happy to loose a couple of hundred pounds (on say a £2k-£3k car) for a hassle free life. Whilst it's sitting outside your house waiting for a buyer you are wasting money on tax and insurance.

the cars listed on the classifieds ........
But im not trying to advertise it on this discussion just let off a bit of steam on what a pain used car are to sell !!!!
I feel like i should of taken the dealers offer of £600 to trade in but it just felt like too little for a good honest car

A lot of R-reg Meganes available for under a grand on Autotrader - might be your answer......
|
Any car will sell, if the price is low enough.
|
I would take the £600. A lot of traders wouldn't accept an R-reg Megane if offered it free (not trying to be offensive, this is honestly true).

1.4 rn? Sorry but its povery spec. There are similar 1.6 rxe's for similar money.

I've just this minute put an ad for the now redundant MICRA on the local rag's Photo Motors section. I'll let you know how/if it goes .........
|
You cannot sell it becuase nobody sane would pay £1500 for an 8 year old Megane with black plastic bumpers, windup windows and a 1.4 litre engine.

Maybe there is an "insane" buyer out there who would pay that much ;-) You could try putting the car in auction on a Saturday, when all the private punters bid over book price thinking that everything in auctions are cheap!
|
finally a tip on selling it.............
ill try some "INSANE" punters down the saturday auctions.........
|

I once went with my brother, against my own better advice, to a car auction held on a Saturday.
I couldn't believe it! Full of private buyers and the stuff was going for silly prices. We had our eyes on a couple of cars and they went for more than you could have bought them for on a dealers forecourt. The auctioneer must have had a field day!
Never again. Would avoid in future at all costs.

Even better news ...........
advice on good auction places in west yorkshire area?
acording to a few posts im gonna need all the help i can get
"BLACK PLASTIC BUMPERS n' all"
|
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned.....www.ebay.co.uk
Make sure you give a good description, use lots of pictures and ideally start with no reserve. It'll sell.

My experience buying at Saturday auctions was the opposite. I had been going to midweek auctions but ended up getting a much better deal at the Saturday auctions. Not what I had expected but it worked out well. With auctions you need to have gone to a few to get an idea of prices before you buy. I would think that would also be the case when selling. Go and look round first. Come back later once you know what the score is.
I would recommend the A4 sheet taped to the back window as a good way to sell a cheaper car. Worked fine for me. Just keep using the car as normal with the A4 sheet in the back. Someone at work or in the supermarket car park will see it and ring you up. Take your time and don't expect it to work straight off. Might take weeks or even months but it does work. You have to keep using the car though. Won't sell if you leave it in your driveway where no one will see it.

Personally I prefer cars with black bumpers. The modern trend of paining them is fine for a few years and then they can look quite scruffy as scratches and scrapes accumulate. With black ones, a quick wash and some bumper polish and they're like new.
They are bumpers afterall.

Sold my liitle Uno using the A4 method. Parked it on a side rode, but very visible to all driving into the local town. Had three viewers over about 4 weeks, sold to the third. Was only worth £350 though - not sure I'd have left anything too pricey there for too long. I think it was Wokingham where so many were/are doing it on one road that council were being urged to paint double-yellows.
I've also seen cars parked prominantly outside Tesco with the A4s in the windows.

Per entry above, I promised to let you know - so am pleased to advise that the MICRA has been sold. Took longer than expected and no joy from local Photo-Motors. Re-advertised last week in free ads at a lower price and sold to first viewer.
A few nervous moments as the buyer was a Fred Dibnah engineering type buying for daughter. He gave the car a thorough going over but seemed happy at the end of the day. I thought price was pretty good considering mileage and relatively short MOT.
For the record: Micra 1.0 Inspiration 3dr Silver. 1999T 73k MOT/Tax March 2006 = £ 1,575
