I'm looking for a W126 300 SE and I've been to see two today. Both have mayo on the oil filler cap, one more than the other. I've seen comment somewhere that it doesn't necessarily mean a failing/failed head gasket and that it can simply be evidence of condensation because of lack of use. What say you, fellow Backroomers -- all better informed than I am on such technical matters. Read more

Can anyone shed some light on this??.If the driver's side wing mirror button is pressed and the "joystick" is used to move the wing mirror, should the passenger wing mirror move as well?. Using the passenger side control and joystick only moves the passenger side mirror.Seems strange to me.Vauxhall told me that this is the way it is meant to be.That means the only way to get the passenger mirror to the desired location is to move them both first then to move the passenger side by itself. Sorry, I don't get this? The up/doem direction might be OK in tandem, but surely the mirrors would need to be moved in opposite directions - ie both inwards or outwards, depending on where the driver sits.

And that's *exactly* what it does. It's a very sensible way of working and I find it works really well.

If I jump in my 2006 Vectra after my wife's been driving it, I simply select the drivers mirror, then move the mirrors "up" (so that I'm not looking at the floor) and "out" so that BOTH mirrors aren't staring into the side of the car....

Right, Engine management light keeps coming on, sometimes associated with a loss of power, Almost always at speed, EMU light comes on, and powers is well down, possibly no turbo. Limp home mode.

Stopping, complete turn off, keys out, Immediate restart, all back to normal.

Light comes on, sometimes immediate loss of power, sometimes a long time but it will lose power.

Had MAF and Turbo pressure switch replaced 18 months ago.

A little confused over the reset situation.

any suggestions.

N reg Nissan Micra (K11 type) mileage: 69k
I used to change oil filter on this car every 10k or 12 months, usually at MOT time.
But I have changed jobs and now drive about 22k per annum.

Just for arguments sake, would extending the oil filter change period to 20k damage the engine on a car this old?

My wife has a Micra and the oil change interval is 9k miles in the handbook. I personally wouldn't go beyond that as these cars have a timing chain so dirty oil could cause timing chain issues, which aren't cheap.

Keeping to oil change schedules is a lot cheaper than getting the timing chain replaced.

My wife's micra K11 has semi-synthetic put in it as it's now serviced by a small garage but always had what the nissan dealer stuck in it at oil change time. Mechanically the car is perfect and feels like it'll last another 60k without any issues.

On the M62 today when I saw a Porsche 928 S4. Looked very nice and I reckon that if it were released now it would still look modern. I also think the same about the 1988 Audi 80.

Anything else built between 1975 and 1995 that could be new releases in 2005?

In this thread you may ask any question for which you need help, advice, suggestions or whatever.

It does not need to be motoring related. In fact, in this thread it should not be.

No Questions About PC's. They now go in another Thread.
No politics
No Speeding, speed cameras, traffic calming
No arguments or slanging matches
Nothing which I think is not following the spirit of the thread
Nothing that risks the future of this site (please see the small print for details www.honestjohn.co.uk/credits/index.htm )

Any of the above will be deleted. If the thread becomes difficult to maintain it will simply be removed.

However, as has been said a couple of times, there is a wealth of knowledge in here, much of which is not motoring related, but most of which is useful.

This is Volume 68. Previous Volumes will not be deleted,

I,ve got an Audi A4 Sport (2001) I bought it second hand 6 months ago. Within a few weeks of ownership the engine management light came on. I had this checked by an Audi main dealer - they said a new cat was required. Further checks revealed the cat to be fine. Since then it has come on several times and each time the fault is different but no actual fault exists. Can anyone suggest what is causing this - Thanks!! Read more

On the A1 just north of Sandy, where the 50mph limit starts. It's on the northbound side, but the writing faces north so you need to be on the southbound side to see it.
