Could someone clarify the laws and regulations regarding tractors who use public roads?
Thoroughly irritated today by a tractor driver who stubbornly refused to pull over to let what must have been 20(!) cars behind him on quite a bendy rural B road despite several chances to pull into a passing place. Also this guy had no revolving amber light which I thought was compulsary especially as visibilty was quite poor.
A blatant disregard for other road users and the law.
But what is the law exactly? Read more

P.S. I had a replacement middle box and rear box on a 2.0 Focus fitted by RapidFit exactly two years ago for £184.95 ~ less my Gold Card 10% discount which I qualified for because I bought the car new from that dealer. It had a two year guarantee. Incidentally, the rear box will last for months (perhaps even years)after it becomes holed in the outer skin. And this is not grounds for an MOT failure ~ well, not at a RapidFit centre anyway.

hi, can anyone help?
i have just purchased a 2001 Mondeo tddi 2.0l zetec(60,000miles) and am getting really bad fuel consumption, ie, 26 mpg around town, this has been consistent for 4 weeks and i have been driving like a Sunday driver (im not a boy racer) the garage have done a diagnostic test which did not show any engine faults, but the oil level was 1/2l above max, the mechanic said this could be the problem so he drained it out, also the air flow sensor was unplugged (i noticed this about three weeks ago) so i plugged it back in but there was no noticeable difference to the engine running when i did so, have i bought a pig in a sack??? has anyone got any ideas???,
Edited in to current indexing system - what a difference three years makes ! Read more
Aha !
My W reg Octavia TDI wouldn't start this morning:
I drove the children to school with no problem (half a mile, heated rear window on etc) and got back in the car after dropping them off and it wouldn't start. The engine turns but doesn't fire. The glowplug light goes out too.
Car was serviced less than a month ago, and the fuel filter replaced. It has done 110,000 miles, so i wouldn't be surprised if something has gone.
What could this be? This is the first time it's not started! I wonder if i've flooded it if that's possible on a diesel. Read more
And the winner is..... Richard W!
Cam belt had jumped a tooth and once back in place, is slack. In hindsight, the car did get more noisy earlier on in the week, and apparently this is a sign of the timing being out.
Solution: new cambelt and tensioner, and while you're under the bonnet, change the pollen filter please. OK, it's an unexpected bill, but boy am i glad the belt didn't fail completely.
My son has a 10 year old Renault 5 GT Turbo which has been completly reliable for the last 8 years. Recently the engine blow a head gasket, this we replaced after having the head skimmed. After engine was started it stopped after only about 1 mile. On examination we found there were no sparks at plugs and no power to the petrol pump. Have tried pump across battery and it is fine. Have checked that power is getting thro' the ignition switch in ignition position, OK. Have tried 3 seperate electronic ignition units still no sparks. Have replaced all the relays beside and behind the fuse box, one at a time also another relay tucked up behind the dash and the ignition relay beside the ignition unit all to no avail. Are there any more relays or other items you can suggest replacing or is there a proper wiring diagram that I can obtain rather than the component diagram that are in the Haynes manuals.

I would suggest getting an auto electrician in.Unless its already been sorted?.Good independants are not expensive and will sort it faster than you can.Apart from that following the wiring code through is the only way to do it.

I live in bog standard semi detached with driveway up the side of the house, mono bloc at back leading to garage.
Up to the monobloc, my driveway was once stones, but is now compacted stones into ground, leaving it very muddy.
Looking to get the driveway done and looking at either mono bloc or tarmac. Whichever I get, I will need to put in some drainage as well.
Benefit of monobloc is that it would blend in with existing monobloc at rear of house. However, that is showing signs of "sinking" in areas where the car goes over, and is quite badly stained where the alloy wheels get power blasted. However my gut feeling is monobloc is dearer although in process of arranging quotes.
Tarmac benefits would seem to be easier to keep clean however I have heard horror stories about tarmac breaking up, roots pushing up through etc.
Also re drainage, should I be asking for actual drain covers and drains to be put in and fed to main drain or is it sufficient just to get manual drains put in whereby they dig deep and fill with gravel or some sort to absorb the water?
Keeping it motor related, it is obviously for my cars and each week I would be washing them on the whichever surface I finally choose. Also, as it is quite a narrow driveway then the chances are that my car will be running on exactly the same "track" all the time. Would this cause sinking in one choice more than another?
Any thoughts on the tarmac v monobloc debate would be appreciated. Read more
Also worth trying toppave.co.uk owned by ...er... Tarmac.
A nicer range of styles IMHO and they also have a list of approved installers.....

Hi,
Was just wondering if anybody out there is having a similar problems we've been having with our Corsa.
Was purchased about May '04.
Faults so far:
1) Indicators randomly clicking like mad. Went in for a check (no, it wasn't the bulbs!) and they replaced some repeater module.
2) Indicators failing again and clicking like mad. This time they replaced a different repeater module (how does this car have). Since then no more reported problems with the indicators. Apparrently this was susposed to be fixed in the '04 model!
3) CD player refused to play CDs!!! Took 6 weeks (yes six) to get a replacement.
4) Engine getting louder and louder. Took it in again and was told Belt tensioner needed replacing. Also, car noticeably sluggish.
5) About 2 weeks after problem no. 4 was fixed, engine started getting really loud again, this time louder than before. Took it in again and was told they would need to order parts. What's worse is that we were advised not the drive the car anymore as the timing chain had nearly gone :-O. We're still waiting for this to be fixed (nearly two weeks now car has been off the road)!!! There seems to be a problem getting new timing chains and MAY get the part in a couple of days!!!!
Anybody else with similar problems??

if its the Fiat engine, why not pop down to the
Fiat dealer and get teh part?
With respect Buddy the car would be in main dealer warranty and as a result it would be down to VX to replace/rectify/correct the fault and get the part wherever it is they get them from :P
Hi
My boyfriend is having a problem with his 1998 Corsa. The rear wash jet does not release any water... The pump makes a noise as if it is trying to release water but none actually comes out. We have tried to clear the hole in the jet but that hasn't helped. We also noticed today that water appears to be travelling into the boot and are wondering if this is from the rear wash jet, however we are unable to locate the hose which transports the water.
Does anyone have any ideas on how we can solve this?
Btw, we're hoping to get hold of a Haynes manual for it in the next few days but any advice before then would help.
Thanks Read more

Although I'm sure your comment was "tongue in cheek", it wasn't polite and had nothing constructive to add to this thread, hence the removal.
DD.
My Mk4 Golf's heater/ventilation panel is not lighting up now. (This is the Aircon but not climate control type). The Aircon button/recirculation button are light up when pressed but the hot/cold, direction and blower speed are not.
Any clues as to where to look. It all works but I can't see what I'm doing at night!!
I suspect a dodgy wire but don't want to take it all apart...
Thanks in advance!

Before we have any "handbags at dawn" you're both right and the Haynes manual is wrong as it looks as though a single bulbs light is spread around the whole of the heater unit.
I eventually removed the blower switch with a pair of pliers and replaced the small bulb. I couldn't get it out without breaking it though !! and I have to hoover up the debris.
thanks for the help....
Forgive me if this gets a bit long winded but....
A couple of weeks ago my brother left the computer logged in and online for a couple of hours. When I went to use it I had to close IE and log out of his sign in. When I logged back in as myself the computer froze within seconds and not even Ctrl/Alt/Del would do anything. I turned the computer off and switched it back on a short while after. It ran scandisk and mentioned that it had found something wrong re: Norton. Worried that something wasn't right I ran Ad aware and Norton. Ad Aware was fine but norton claimed it had finished after only running for a few minutes. It came up with an error message: "Norton AntiVirus was unable to scan your computer for infections because virus definitions could not be loaded . . ." (3019,5) which we checked on the Norton website and followed the instructions...finally removing the program and re installing it.
Same thing happened. Downloaded the windows updates...did nothing to it. Downloaded Norton updates, same thing.
I ran the emergency virus scan with the Norton disc and after 2 1/2 hours it claimed not to have found anything on the C drive.
We also have ZoneAlarm Pro installed on the machine and when this first started happening a program (something to do with msn messenger) kept trying to access the internet....we blocked it from doing so as none of us had even used messenger that day.
Have since tried several things and got all hopeful when the virus scan went for a bit longer. However, halfway through the scan the computer just packs up and re starts itself. Cue scandisk....sometimes it mentions some file or other, other times it's fine.
Questions:
Do we have a virus on the computer that is affecting Norton???
Anyone else encountered this problem??
Anyone got any ideas???
Any help gratefully received!
