  • Accident advice 23 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I had left a large roundabout 200 yds down the road previously & had indicated a left turn to exit as you would. 200 yds down a major road is a tee junction with a large exit & entry as there normally is on a busy road to maintain flow of traffic when approaching this tee junction & have passed the beginning of the exit & travelling at a speed that was within the limit (30) I was shocked to see someone pull out in front of me. I applied the brakes but with probably only 10 foot to stop failed to do so & ended up crashing into the middle of said car. I got out the other driver got out of the passenger door of the car (as the drivers door would not open) & screamed you was indicating to turn left.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 99 2.0 engine run-on and ticking sound 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
my only train of thought so far is that the timing is advanced which is causing pinking (the ticking sound, although ive never heard a car pink before) and being advanced this may cause the engine run on. when it goes into safe mode, the ignition is retarded and brings it back into range. plus if the timing is out of range perhaps this is why the cam sensor is throwing up a fault. incidentally, if i put my foot on the brake when i turn the engine off i get no run on. my tiny lack of car knowledge ends there im afraid :) thanks, kris
  • Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 2001 1.4 Several electrical faults 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The instrument pannel has a warning light that comes on to tell me that I have a bulb out (but I don't) this warning comes on randomly, sometimes it will sometimes it wont. (Sometimes happens when I brake, but other times just randomly) No Bulbs are out though. 3. Say if I drive up the road say 3 miles and turn the car off to go into the shop. When I come back it wont start properly eventually it will on very low revs until it slowly builds to normal idle revs.
  • BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - BMW Deals on the Web 4 Mar 2009 (Forum)
s the downside you seem to get a great speck car for a big saving however even in retirement I will do about 20K miles a year so I need to know it will not let me down. I am niggled by the stories of cars being left in fields for years and rusty brakes etc Any comments would be appreciated.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2001 1.8 intermittant instrument readings 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
every now and again the speedo stops working, the fuel guage dies, and the whole dash will reset itself as if you turned the key on and off, and you get the oil level indicator and milage to next service on the lcd display. also get random 'brake fluid level low' caption on the radio/clock display and handbrake light flashes!! the interesting thing is that each of these faults appear to have a mind of their own and happen individually, and cannot be replicated!
  • Police attitude - Motorway Cops 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
They flick the lights on and as he pulls onto the hard shoulder they pull in front and stamp the brakes on. He nearly goes into the back of them. Before the car's stopped the policeman's out and running over to the car, reaches in and pulls out the keys and then tries to pull the driver out while screaming "You're under arrest" etc.
  • Audi A3 Sportback (2004 - ) - dsg delay - feature or fault? 21 Aug 2008 (Forum)
But whatever I did, if I tried to accelerate from standstill, I either got horrible wheelspin or the whole thing bogged down. Even revving against the brakes, initially it would bog down, so I?d press a bit harder, then the wheels would spin. I found it really difficult to pull away smoothly and reasonably quickly in this car." I've got an A3 2.0 tdi and love it, except for those too frequent delays in pick-up.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9 Setting speedo to km/h in Scenic II 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Just in case this is of use to anyone (it doesn't appear to be in the handbook), I've posted it here: To set Renault Scenic II / Grand Scenic digital speedometer and trip computer to metric: Ignition must be off (so open and close the door in the case of full keyless models) Press and hold the upper (^) fuel computer button on the end of the wiper stalk Still holding the ^ button, insert the key card into the slot on the dash. Make sure you're not touching the clutch or brake pedals. Still holding the ^ button, press and hold the Engine Start/Stop button. The ignition will come on. After about 5 seconds, the speedo appears, and begins to flash. After another 5 seconds, the units switch from mph to km/h but the speedo still flashes.
  • I was an L Artic driver briefly.What went wrong? 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
But out of interest and liking a `second string to the bow` I thought I would have a go. I remember the truck and the safety checks, water out of the air brakes and so on. Had no real problems driving, only once putting the trailer wheels a few inched onto the kerb the first time out ;) Reversing, I was good at that and they were pleased. Less so when negotiating an uphill turning standing start at a turning right junction " You will snap a half shaft" again first time out on the road.
  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 04 2.0vti - stalling problem, not sure what to do 11 May 2008 (Forum)
Basically the car rev counter seems to often just "hang on" and keeps itself around 400 RPM. The engine vibrates and so does the car. When I am on an incline and take my foot off the brake the engine just can't cope and instantly stalls. I had the AA round and there were no fault codes but frankly I didn't trust their computer that much. Now, something very strange also happened today with the car.
  • Can your passanger switch off cruise control? 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
David's comments below in another thread reminded me of the risks. >>Scary Faults - David Horn >>The Honda cruise control disconnect is in 3 places - brake pedal, master switch, and steering wheel. >> Irritatingly, it's not on the handbrake (wouldn't have killed them to add one more microswitch), >> so if I died at the wheel I have no idea what a passenger would need to do. :-) My MkII Mondeo has no handbrake CC switch.
  • Alfa Romeo 156 (1998 - 2005) - 1999 2.0 TS - ABS problem. 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hello. I have a problem with the ABS cutting in at low speed when only braking moderately. The car has had this problem since the two rear ABS sensors were replaced, after having been out of service for two months. I have tried to measure the output from each sensor, but they only give a reading of 0.1 to 0.3 mV at speeds between 10 and 30 mph, and the readings are inconsistent.
  • Filtering on a motor bike 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Traffic was moving at walking pace towards an accident (I found out later) on the A1 south in North Yorkshire. I joined at Catterick and sped down to the A684 at Leeming and a load of brake lights. I chose to filter between the two lanes of traffic and cruised at no more than 15 mph when I wasn't being baulked or pinched. I was surprised by the amount of obstructive driving and plain lack of attention by other motorists.
  • Problem with Vectra / Signum handbrakes? 1 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Fellow owner Barry Lord told how his Vectra, hooked to a caravan, rolled towards a cliff edge with his wife in the car. She was only saved by the caravan's own brake. Consumer magazine Which?, which has a dossier of more than a dozen cases, says the problem also affects the Signum model. Signum owner Rhys Davies saw his car roll into a neighbour's BMW and write if off.
  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - Rover no more 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Having parked the car on friday for a morning in the office I returned to it to find a police car and three tow trucks some nice person who the police have yet to apprehend although they know who he is decided to use his brothers car and ran into three parked cars, all three plus the car he was driving are now scrap so I have now to go through all the insurance and legal stuff.I have put the car on SORN now got to spend a day going to local tax office to get the personnel plate put on redemption.I can't keep a car when I want I had really fallen in love with it having done the brakes ,cam belt and head gasget with the intention of keeping it.So I spent Saturday trying to find a 75 tourer or ZTT that was in the same condition and same low miles mission impossible people were wanting 5k for rough high milers and as there are none coming in from lease I gave up and bought a two year old Signum 2.2 elegance from my usual source plus I have got a dose of flu its not been my weekend.I got a Chevrolet lancetta as a hire car it is horrible I am glad it goes back today.
  • Dangerous Driving. 28 Dec 2007 (Forum)
In the process the two of them have slowed down to 30 to 40 mph and forcing myself and other drivers to brake sharply. As I felt that this was an extremely dangerous situation and I did not want to be involved in any pile up due to these idiots. I indicated over to the inside lane and accelerated by them (still shouting at each other).
  • Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - Nearly trashed my car 23 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Driving to work this morning on a road I always go down 60mph country road and going into a shallow right hander at the speed limit and for no reason the back broke loose and car slid into a 45 degree angle with front end on other side. I managed to get the front round by dabbing brake and steering into skid but i'm a very lucky person today. I doesnt bear thinking about if another car was coming my way. The road appeared dry with soft verges at edge of road, it is possible the my rear tire caught one of these verges and caused the skid.
  • Lights; their correct use and maintenance. 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I'd estimate that a good five per cent have only one headlight working, quite a few more only one rear light, and perhaps ten per cent have faulty brake lights. Add to this the drivers who think that side lights (or as the Americans more accurately call them, parking lights) are sufficient illumination in rainy conditions or on floodlit roads, the ones who go the other way by leaving front and rear fog lamps on when visibility is clear, and those dopey few who think that metallic paint is also fluorescent so they don't need lights at all, and it's a wonder we don't get even more accidents!
  • Youths throwing rocks!! 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
This rock smashed into the top of the near side wing and bounced across the bonnet. She then slammed her brakes on, but by the time she had opened her window to shout at them they had fled (they were all on pushbikes). When she arrived home, visibly shaken, I jumped straight in my car and tried to find them.
  • Sultan of Brunei?s modified Mercedes for sale 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
On the outside, the Sultan had 18-inch alloys and an aerodynamic bodykit added ? along with uprated brakes and an AMG sports exhaust. Inside, AMG really went to work. The bright red interior is all leather with matching red carpet. The VIP cabin has four electric seats, LCD screens, electric table and storage compartment and a sound system worthy of a Kiss concert.
