Having appeared and then disappeared shortly after, Jimny is apparently on its way back.

Given that it’s extremely capable off road with a not particularly torquey 1.5 petrol engine, I’m guessing it’ll be almost unstoppable with a couple of electric motors. Read more
The ID.5 was "tested" on 5th Gear tonight and they were not impressed. The shape is bland and the dash is all touch screen. The aircon controls are apparently not illuminated and difficult to use in the dark. In its favour the range is just over 300miles.
From my point of view the view from the rear window looked very narrow and I did not like the boxy look. The price is £55k ! For my money I would rather have the petrol Tiguan and save £20k Read more

But if it was a company car and you were only paying BiK at 40%, the ID5 would be £440 compared to the Tiguan's £5200. Makes more sense then :)...

I've driven an Isuzu powered Lotus Elan. That certainly wasn't very refined, but it was made of plastic and the turbocharger kicked it at inopportune moments. Pulling out of a junction was like walking 100 dogs that have just seen a rabbit.
I wonder if maybe the example you drove had been modified/messed about in some way or other?. Contemporary road tests generally agreed that the turbo version had exceptional road manners (no mention of excessive turbo lag), was very effective at getting its power down and was a devastatingly quick machine over winding country roads. But it was criticised because its overwhelming competence made it seem a little dull. ...
Akio Toyoda is ‘stepping down’ as chief executive of Toyota after 14 years.
His reign brought a bit of fun back to the range with GT86, new Supra and a couple of quick Yaris’, but there is speculation that he’s moving aside for missing the boat on EV.
Toyota is going from industry leaders with Prius to playing a massive game of catch up with battery electric vehicles.
Maybe this development will bring Toyota’s hydrogen experiment to an end. Read more
Whatever I do not think 2030 is going to work for us
I agree, I have seen a lot of new EVs around but nothing compared to Hybrid cars, Toyota and Hyundai seem the most popular in my area anyway, with the odd MG around so I can see Hybrids being the most popular up to 2035 ish imo....
Fellow motorists,
I am in the market for 2nd hand vehicle for the missus to get the drivers licence, petrol automatic and on the smaller side (up to segment C is fine though) I have a budget of 2k. A budget that up until now never failed to get me good cars for 20 years wherever I lived. And I can repair and maintain my car up to a very good standard. Never once I bought a car from any dealership.... Read more
Ps this car is not for sale, it is the one I bought, but it gives you the full mot history. which in my case goes all the way back to 2011. If you click on the back button in top left hand you can put in any registration.

Yesterday went over a pothole resulting in small year front offside. I will replace the tyre and have tracking done.
Is it better to replace both tyres, mid range, about 50% wear ?... Read more

Brexit almost definitely will have played some part but clearly there are also other significant global factors at play. People will argue until next Christmas the extent to which any factor has contributed to the decline in UK car production.

Hi All,
In need of some advice. Recently purchased the above car, before I did the AWD wasn't working, so the old owner and myself decided a 50/50 split on a replacement gearbox would be the best option. After a while to wait due to the wrong gearbox being sent, it was all working well, it drives fine, however, day 2 I've noticed a clunk/knocking when changing down to 2nd gear from 3rd. I also noticed the same noise on the way home from work down from 4th to 3rd. It's very intermittent. Sometimes it doesn't knock going down from 3rd to 2nd, but other times it does. It's a short sharp knock, like a ratio is wrong or a diff issue. The replacement gearbox was 43k and I have no idea what testing the breakers give them but apparently it was fine. It's a rare one , 6 speed manual with 3 sensors. Took forever and a day to find the right one. After much expense I'm really hoping it's not the gearbox. The original is in my workshop with a seized output spline , hence the replacement. Not sure if I should refurbish that if it comes to it - depending on internal damage. Though guessing there is either an issue with the replacement gearbox - hence the reason it was scrapped, or issue with replacing it and causing another problem with the car. Otherwise drives fine, but I guess this knocking will get worse/louder in time. Sounds like popping a joint. I'm speaking to the mechanic who fitted tomorrow. Problem is, it's exhausted him as it caused so much grief, so essentially I'm the only one with the problem here. Owner is paid, mechanic is paid, I'll be the one losing out. 3 mo the warranty on gearbox, but no idea what that covers, I'm sure their ass is covered . Bought the car, 2 days of owning it, the saga continues. Any advice or ideas greatly appreciated... Read more
That was one of the options.chuck the original gearbox in and remove the propshaft and just have it as a 2WD, but ideally I wanted it for towing. Obviously the cheaper option.
I sometimes wonder how much the MoT test checks the function of the speedometer. The only opportunity must be on the rolling road ? I have owned more than one car with a speedo which had some peculiarity. Read more
I was initially wondering if this thread was about swimming gear...
Yeh, my initial thought was "BUT Australia doesn't HAVE an MOT?"
Yes, but if it had softer suspension with greater travel, the risk in it falling over is higher due to its proportions. A Jimny is taller than it is wide, much more so in the case of the JDM Kei versions which don't have the extra 15cm of track width allowed by the wheelarch extensions. ...
