Hi

My rear driver side tyre blew out on an A road last night. I am going to sort out getting a new tyre today so I was checking what tyre I need... Read more

I would replace both:

1. You will have both tyres on the same tread depth and even wear....

Hi, my car got hit from behind while I was stationery. Traffic was just starting to move and as I was about to pull up someone smashed into me with a company van. He admitted fault and we exchanged details. I should be contacted by an insurance company soon and since I haven't had an accident before I'm not sure what are the options. Are they going to pay for the damage caused or maybe buy the car if I want to sell it? Might be a silly question, sorry. Read more

Let your insurer know, too, and provide the other driver's details. The insurance companies will decide whether to repair or write it off.

I reversed the car into a wooden fence and have some damage to pay for. Can anyone hazard a guess of costs? As you can see from pics, it does go down to the metal and there was a slight indent too that is hard to see from pic.

Hi looking for advise, I sold the Corsa SXI 1.2 1.6v person came back with it over heating, white smoke, running badly and over pressured coolant.

I took the head off, got it skimmed, new head set set and rebuilt. All seemed well it runs very smooth person was happy, 10 days later get a call stating that the temperature light had came back on and the it had lost its coolant again. Now it's back there is white smoke, and the water pump is shot. They took it to a garage that said the head gasket had failed as the dipped the coolant and the was exhaust gas in there. There are no other symptoms of the head gasket it not running badly, not over heating while the there is coolant in it and it's not over pressuring the coolant. ... Read more

I assume it was a private sale? If so, you should never have got involved with it after - unless of course you suspected there was a problem and have a conscience.

Hi guys, my Honda Jazz 1 of the wipers has stopped working, thankfully the driver side is all good. I'd prefer to do it myself, does anyone have any tips on where to start. to confirm, the working wiper is quite rigid in its position (when car wipers switched off) the non working wiper you can move freely (when wipers are off)

Hiya. Im not a car expert so have headed to people who are and joined this forum. I have a large and expensive problem. I bumped my hire car when on holiday in France last August and have just received a bill of nearly 3K euro. Also, it would appear that I messed up with my insurance and I am not covered. I am therefore wondering whether to challenge the bill and see if it can be reduced. Has anyone ever succeeded in doing this? I wanted to post pictures of the damage for assessment, but can't see how - I guess because Im a new member? Anyway, any advice really gratefully received!

<< ... use the correct formal french terms etc eg never use "tu" always use the formal "vous" >>

I can't imagine any English speaker not fluent in French even thinking of using 'tu'. I lived for a month with a Parisian family when I was a teenager and it took me quite a while to come to terms with it. I suppose it might come more naturally to a Yorkshireman (tha and thee) ... :-)...

Whilst I appreciate the legal issues with posting a link to Giles' article in the Times (which I won't link), I thought it rather ironic that the closed thread is accompanied by a series of advertisements for Jaguar E-Pace vehicles for sale ... perhaps one is Giles's accursed car? Read more

Yep no issues at all. Should have bought from Stellantis Giles..

Yeah, but he'd thenm have no cahce to get into the local pony or golf club, or feel 'special' when dining at some fancy Michelin -starred restaurant on the company dime? Image seems to make a lot of difference to the metroplitan journo set....

Can someone please advise where the earthing points are on an 05 Combo Van please (1.3cdti if that makes any difference)?

For some time, the high beam light has been slightly glowing when the ignition is off, and just this week, has been joined by the glowplug light. They are only slightly showing and noticeable in the dark. Also today, the digital trip meter keeps resetting itself to zero, and the mileage display comes and goes. Not sure if this is connected to the dash light issue, but thinking a bad earth might be a good place to start.... Read more

Did you manage to solve your problem?

Dealing with something like that. Mine keeps main beam and glow plug lights sightly glowing no matter ignition on or off....

Passing my local filling station today I noticed that diesel was almost exactly 30p/litre more than petrol - I think it was 169 versus 139p. Any advance on that ? Not many cars will get better than 21% advantage in consumption to offset that. Read more

Engineer Andy

Near where I live in West Yorkshire the price of diesel seems to be generally at a maximum of 179.9 p/l.

However there is one filling station on the A658 Harrogate to Leeds/Bradford airport road which is still charging 188.9. There must be a lot of people who just fill up without looking at the price....
