That said I have seen loads of posts about issues with the 1.4

Should I be worried or not?! Read more

Amazing that some manufacturers 1.4t engines are a bit sub par. Suzuki's Boosterjet engines especially the 1.4t variety were an absolute hoot, I found it bulletproof. So much so I bought another one tge 1.0t 3cyl version and again superb.. Sadly its all gone a bit Hybrid and I've not had one of those.

I currently have a Vitara ( mild hybrid) with the 1.4T, it is as you say a absolute hoot, probably a little bit more than yours thanks to the leccy motor!...

Hi, I have seen some previous threads on this issue and wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction or offer any advice please.

We bought a Mazda CX5 2.2 2016 diesel 10 months ago from a used car dealership. In Jan, a red oil light came on so we straight away had the car recovered and a mechanic informed us the engine was knocking and would need replacing. After a second opinion we were told by both mechanics that thus is a common problem with Mazda diesel engines and due to a manufacture fault in these cars, diesel is thrown back and contaminates the oil eventually wrecking the engine. We're told by Mazda that it would cost £9,000 to replace the engine! Bought the car for just under £15,000 using a personal loan to be paid over 5 years so basically we are stuck with it! ... But if it was bought second hand you don’t know if the previous owners have also had this issue. It could be the reason they sold it.

Is there a website with a list of every torque convertor car available in UK ?

I am looking for a small/medium SUV sized car - with a TC box available via Motability - but Motability cannot provide such a list... Read more

Oddly enough, Mazda, whilst 'tied' to that group, never strayed from using TC auto boxes. They still only use them today for their ICE autos. It would be interesting to know what they use in their Toyota Yaris-clone Mazda2 hybrid (a completely different car to the standard Mazda2) and the 'new' (ish) MX-30 hybrid with the rotary engine.

The Mazda 2 (Yaris clone) will have a CVT just like the Yaris. Just imagine the cost re-engineering it to use a different box which would probably be worse....

My choice would be S-Max or Galaxy. Basically the same car but S-Max has less headroom in the back.

Zafira is OK and cheap but arguably cheap for a reason. The Zafira "Tourer" which is the newer generation is much better than the previous. ...

Heard on the local grapevine that a local garage is offering a service to delete the DPF function from diesel cars for around £330.

With genuine replacement DPF s costing around £2000, is this something worth considering? Read more

Along the exhaust after treatment lines, has anyone yet had to pay out for a new adblue injection system or the exhaust its plumbed into, one presumes the exhaust is a trick one and adblue injected into the silencer...confess not something i've studied much because i don't intend buying in.

I ask because on trucks some of these silencers are priced eye wateringly, one chap forking out some £8k for a silencer, a bargin indeed because it was supposed to retail well over £11k.

My hyundai ix35 is crunching when changing from 3rd to 4th and back from 5th to 4th I've read it's a common fault with the selector.

Anybody know how much it will cost to have it repaired. Read more

I know your post is quite old but you may be able to help because I have a similar issue you experienced then and I don't know how to resolve it. Gearbox specialists will charge me an arm and a leg. May I ask how you resolved your issue?

Tiredmumma

Hello, newbie here.
Quick question. I just received a court referral notice for failing to provide information, but didn’t receive an initial NIP which I would have replied to the same day. I’m not contesting the fact I was caught speeding, just a bit shocked to get this referral without the NIP first. Has anyone else experienced this please?
Thankyou.

A quick Google suggests that some Police forces send a letter to people in Tiredmumma's situation to tell them that, as there's been no reply to previous notices, the case will shortly be sent to Court. The description in the OP would be consistent with such a letter.

If that is the case than there's perhaps some wiggle room to explain what's gone wrong and get it straightened out. It's no more in their interest than that of a potential defendant to spend time and money on court proceedings where things can be tied up informally....

Recently the amber warning light came on for gas particualtion filter and took car to main dealer who booked it in. After 2 visits to replace sensors and software upgrade light was still on and told they would order a new filter and was just waiting for call to fit. Waited 2 weeks and contacted them to be told person had left that was dealing with it and someone would call me. After another 2 weeks and trying to contact them with no joy and went into the branch and spoke to manager who told me that they would need to replace part and not covered by warranty and £1,600 cost. I explained that I had already been told it was covered by previous person and obviously a fault with part as drive on motorway daily and only purchased the car 9 months ago from their dealership although car is 2020 reg. they told me they would look into it further and contact me and another 2 weeks gone by with no contact despite me chasing twice. Should this be covered by MG warranty which is part of reason I bought car due to 7 year warranty and under sale of goods act surely I should be covered for cost. Read more

DPF generation can happen by driving at high RPM for half an hour.

Its about time people stopped posting this nonsense....

Some of you might recall that I permanently live in Austria. We were visiting family at Christmas and we needed fuel at Dover on arrival on 23rd Dec. While I was literally finishing filling up, another car tried to squeeze past ours (we were parked at the front pump of two), took some chunks out of the rear wing/bumper/wheel arch trim of our CR-V because the gap wasn't big enough, and drove off without stopping. Luckily I have a witness, and it was recorded on CCTV. I managed to get the registration number. We have about €1300 worth of cosmetic damage to our car.

Today (yes, I know, a long delay for various reasons) I have completed a DVLA V888 (Request by an individual for information about a vehicle), having confirmed with them by phone that they can accept it as long as I have a UK correspondence address. The DVLA say that it can take six weeks from receipt of the request to respond, but I was wondering whether anyone here has used the service recently and wondering whether it would actually take six weeks? TIA. Read more

Just to close this off, I had a letter from DVLA on Saturday saying that as I was not a UK resident they were unable to release the information to me.

So I shall be submitting an insurance claim. I'm insured with Zurich, so I assume that Zurich Austria will be able to get the other driver's insurance details via Zurich UK. I've lost the will to sort it out myself:-(

I need some advice about an intermittent noise i’m hearing.

I bought a 2019 Petrol Kuga and started to hear what sounds like chirping or screws rattling and mostly if I drive over bumps or rough roads. It’s not all the time and mostly in colder weather.
My first though was serpentine belt or water pump but the belts fine and no leaks/ temperature increases from the engine. I Took it back to Ford, they were unable to find the noise but did say new petrol kuga can be noisy. Apparently it’s normal as newer fords to have selonoids and these do make rattle sounds sometimes.

Wanting a second opinion, I took it to another garage. I Had it looked at again and came to the same conclusion. They had it all day and checked engine, breaks tyres etc.
The mechanic says what I hear is injectors and solenoids which are normal engine noise for the make and model of the car.

They all say it’s nothing to worry about. I have to admit that I do suffer extreme anxiety and can be paranoid always thinking worse case so it could be nothing. I probably am over-thinking this but would appreciate any help or suggestions on what to do. Read more

Hmm...sounds a bit of a First World Problem, TBH

Aside from the engine noises suggested, could it be a loose screw, nut or even stone in a hollow section somewhere?. Lots of these on a car, though admittedly hard to see how cold weather would influence that, unless it made a cavity wax treatment less sticky.....
