February 2023
January sales figures have just been published, and it’s pretty much as expected.
Comparing Jan 23 to Jan 22 -
Diesel down 12.1%
Petrol up 14.6%
Electric up 19.8%
Plug in hybrid up 0.7%
Hybrid up 40.6%
Hybrid is 14.4% of the market, with EV close behind on 13.1.
MG had a good month with the best seller (HS) and ZS in 8th.
After their huge December, Tesla sold 579. 0.44% of the market. As discussed previously, this is due to the idiosyncratic way they trade. I’d expect a massive March from them.

Hi All,
Looking for a bit of sound advice as always, given the plethora of new cars on the market today.... Read more
My choices would be Hyundai i20n or (if not too small) Abarth 595.
The wing mirror on the passenger side has fallen off, but it seems there is a mirror behind, I'm confused as to what's happened.
So was the piece that came off stuck onto the original mirror? If so, why?... Read more
It's a DOOR MIRROR.
You'll have to speak up dear...
So, my wife came back from the gym earlier and announced that the Twingo had a flat tyre. "Where is it?" I asked. "On the drive" she told me. "It was making a lot of noise as I drove home". It turns out the tyre pressure warning came on yesterday but she ignored it because the Corsa used to do it all the time for no reason.
Anyway, I went to order a pair of new rears (they were pretty worn, so no harm done really) and had to keep going back out on to the drive and checking sizes again until I finally realised it has different profiles front and back. What's that all about? Is it a RWD thing? Read more
My E Class has different sized tyres front/back.
I sometimes see used cars advertised on Facebook Marketplace that have no V5. Assuming the car has not been reported stolen, is there any particular risk associated with purchasing such a vehicle?
Why would a seller not have the V5? it seems that the sellers of these cars are traders of some sort... Read more
All sorts of possibilities, some legit, many others not.
Hi
Looking for some advice. Sold daughters used 64 reg car online. In advert I declared it was a cat N and had needed airbag. Age related marks. Had receipts for work recently done. I was honest in what I knew about car. A fault was rectified when it was spotted by a potential buyer. I took advert off so I could rectify. This buyer had been in touch and already had offered way below what I was looking for. To cut a long story short. He kept bombarding me with messages to buy car. Anyway agreed price he was told not to drive the 4 or so hours for car and then try and cut me down again. Which he did. I took another 100 pounds off car as he pointed out a cracked lense on light I hadn't said in advert. I honestly hadn't deliberately left that out. He drove the car the 4 hours back home.no issues. And now I am getting bombarded with txts that I didn't tell him about a light being off behind dashboard. I didn't know it was off!!... Read more
If you sell another car, you should give the buyer a formal receipt for the agreed amount, stating the details (reg, year etc) and that it is sold 'as seen', free of outstanding payments and without warranty. (I learnt that basic formula in 1964 when I bought my first vehicle as an independent person).
There should be no comeback after that, especially if you keep a copy for yourself....

i have told them i am rejection the car under the consumers act 2015 but they are saying there not accepting my rejection because of a tow bar has been fitted by a 3rd party and that what was causing the problem, but not once have a picked up a bill from BMW Relating to this so i know that was Rubbish
i have reports of the warranty work and job sheets and technicians finding but not 1 off them says it a tow bar issue or wiring

In reality that proves nothing. Just consider that installing the wiring caused the issue but simply removing it will not necessarily fix it....

the antiquated V5 form that doesn't include any way to officially record the time of the sale
If the buyer taxes the car before driving away (like the buyers of the last 2 cars I sold did) the time is clearly recorded....
