...but no reasons or stats or even stories about why. I think Mazda offer two diesel engines in the CX-5, paired with a manual or auto transmission. The car is high on my shortlist, so I need to find out why they have this heresay around them.
I'm considering diesel because most of my driving is long distance and I find petrol engines feel weak and need a lot of gear shifting. I'm not yet convinced the mild-hybrid skyactiv petrol engine will be enough for the car. Read more
I just bit the bullet and asked my local Seat garage for a price to replace the cambelt on my Skoda Karoq. They tell me, and a brief google seems to confirm, that the requirement to replace it every five years has been withdrawn! Read more
Good for you I have driven the 1.5 TSI in various VAG models, likewise the 2.0 diesel and the 2.0 diesel is far superior to drive, maybe not so good to own.
I have only driven a 2 litre TDi in a Superb estate and have to say it was dreadful. Only drove the car to check it would fit in the garage. I experienced the biggest problem often discussed on the Skoda forum which is dim witted throttle response, its why people fit pedal boxes. In contrast the TSi picks up instantly.
Owners also say the 190 is worse than the 150 in this respect.
There is a group that is growing rapidly on Facebook about the ePower system fault message. My wife's car has just thrown up this fault after 7,000 trouble free miles. Our local dealership has, this far, been very good in supplying a courtesy car while hers is in for repair. However, there does seem to be a growing problem. Generator failure, wiring loom issues, fuel leaks and various other issues are coming to light. Whilst we appreciate that all manufacturers can have issues, the ePower system was extensively tested in Japan before release to the wider market. It seems that Nissan is trying to avoid a recall at the moment but the burgeoning number of complaints is worrying. Our dealership has told us that the fault has been identified and the part is ordered and due to be fitted this week. We remain hopeful and will update once we have the car back. It would be a shame if the issues continue as the car, for our purposes has been great to drive and suited our needs well. Read more
I have just done 8k in my E-power Qashqai and am still experiencing faults from new. The first one being the heating system that had a mind of its own. It would at random, switch on at 24deg. etc. The dealership at the time didn't find any issues with it and I had to take a video of it happening to prove I wasn't going mad. It would appear that the steering wheel controls were the problem and it was changed. Great, problem solved. I now have a problem with the Intelligent Cruise Control system (ICC). When the cruise control is selected at a speed and the distance set at 2 bars, after around 15minutes into a new journey, the system gives out an audible alarm and the instrument cluster displays 'Temporarily Disabled Front Radar Blocked'. The lane guidance light and front impact light flashes. The only way to clear the fault is to stop and switch of the start/stop and switch it on again. After clearing it, approx 15mins, it does it again. Another issue is when I finish a phone call, a message in the centre of the instrument panel displays the name of the person I have spoken to and a 'Hang Up' message. The only way to clear it, is to phone my wife and get her to call me. Ahhhh!!! Next!! I have had a slight rattle, as if a body seam had come adrift. It occured when I accelerated and applied the brakes. When filling my washer bottle tank, I noticed a the bracket supporting the air conditioning pipes had a bolt missing. I put in an M6 bolt and washer to fix the problem. When I mentioned this to the dealership, they told me the air con pipe assembly would have to be totally replaced as they didn't have a bolt. It is an M6 Black flanged 15mm. Because I had fixed the problem using a non genuine bolt, my warranty would be invalid. (The whole world is mad). Whilst the car is nice to drive, these issues are driving me mad. When first reporting the ICC problem, the dealership sarcastically said 'If you read your handbook, it says clean your sensor behind the front grill'. Checked it and it was clean. Eventually got the dealership to have the car for the day and they found no faults, but they didn't drive it anywhere. I have been advised that Nissan Technical have been informed and am awaiting a response. Re the ICC, I use it all the time especially in the speed limit areas. I did get a lecture about not relying on it to slow me down when the vehicle in front has slowed down. It is the drivers responsibly. I agree, but why sell a car with the system? I have had other vehicles and it has worked fine, even to bring the vehicle to a halt.

...Choice is good. But there seems little to choose between these two similar sized boxes on wheels.
Two cars which look so different from each other both outside and in, and you can't envisage a reason why someone might choose one over the other?, seriously...
Evening All. I’m thinking of buying a ten year old 1.6 petrol Qashqai. Seems like a nice genuine car with low miles and one owner. MOT history looks good with no advisories. Anyone know what I should look out for on this model please? Read more
Ten years mostly outside with 160,000 miles or ten years mostly inside with 40,000 miles?
Not sure whether I've mentioned it previously but I bought a VW Up! through Cinch over a year ago, but returned it - hadn't realised the steering wheel wasn't telescopic, which meant I couldn't get comfortable due to my knee problem. Not Cinch's fault, and the return was surprisingly easy. (Bought the Mazda2 from Cazoo instead.)
Well I think I'm going to have to do it again, but this time I think it is their fault. I've bought a Fiesta, 2021 reg although 28k miles, and not cheap. But there were no imperfections shown on the Cinch car details web page, which I thought justified the price at least to some extent.... Read more
Thought I'd give them another go...
I've now had my 2017 BMW 220i Coupe Sport auto for >14 days, which means the Cinch no-quibble return window has closed. Seems really nice. And they're refunding me £250 as promised because of last year's Fiesta fiasco described above....
2017 D-Max, 88,000 miles. "Check system" & key symbol appear after 12 miles. Key fob will not restart vehicle once engine stopped until it has been taken out of range of the car for a period - half an hour seems to work. Dealer tried moving receiver down away from behind central display, radio, etc, saying it was related to radio warming, but that has not worked. Same occurs with both key fobs and no indication of low battery. This occurred later the same day that I damaged the towbar socket, letting in water. Three other faults also occurred the same day: 1) no reversing light when reverse gear selected. 2) no central display switching to rear camera when reverse selected (can switch to camera manually). 3) no GSI (gear shift indicator) number showing at all in any gear. Dealer says 1) & 2) are related to loose parking sensor shorting and blowing common fuse, and that 3) is due to faulty clutch switch and unrelated to 1) & 2). All seems too much of a coincidence to me, all faults occurring on same day. One possible common factor is heavy rain showers on that day, and vehicle left outdoors for several hours. Dealer now stumped re "Check system" issue. Thanks. Read more
Hi
Did you find the solution to these issues, my 2018 dmax seems to have done the exact same thing!
Cheers Seb
I've been wearing varifocals glasses for several years now and apart from the first week or two when you think you'll never get the hang of them, they've been fine. But I'm now finding some close up DIY and spannering tasks are becoming harder.
A few weeks ago I was wiring in a new ceiling light fitting, so close up work where I should be looking through the "reading" zone of the lense, but due to looking up to the ceiling, I'm looking through the distance zone until I get my head in the right position to look through the right zone. Same thing happened when installing a new headlamp bulb - my head was actually upside down. After a while I find I get a bit queasy. Any other varifocal wearers out there who find the same issue and maybe have a solution? Read more
Thank you for the tip! I'll have to re-evaluate my choices with this new information.
I'm in the market for an manual/auto S-Max, well aware there are no guarantees over reliability a £4,000 maximum budget. That's all there is in the kitty and I won't be borrowing any more to extend the budget.
Mileage annually no more than 10,000 putting me preferably in the petrol camp, these are unfortunately thin on the ground. Now if I had to go for diesel is one better than another? Is there one to avoid? IIRC The 1.8 doesn't have a DPF and powershift auto should be avoided. Read more
Thanks SLO, I find patience is a good trait to have when looking for a car. Rarely am I in a hurry to change. This time I've down sized from a van to end up with a vehicle combining the duities of private and business use. Also enabled me to go down to the cost of just two vehicles once the Focus MK1 has sold. Fiat Coupe summer fun car.
And thanks to all who gave advice regarding S-Max/C-max.
Three dealers have told me they won't budge on the price at all on used cars, but they might include some accessories such as floor mats. This is different to the last time I bought a car. I've overheard other customers haggling, but not the outcome of their efforts.
Some dealerships have told me there's a discount available by using their PCP finance option, from the finance provider, but only for new cars. Read more
As above most dealership prices are now controlled centrally so little room for negotiation. Yippee a couple of mats or a spare wheel on a car costing thousands. Even when a car is in a bit of an over supply the companies will hold them back to keep their margins.
The dealers do not want your cash, the profit from commission on loans and leases is a nice little earner and if they can sell you anything else like warranties again bring it on!
How do you check the oil pickup strainer on these?
