August 2023
Morning,
So the issue here I have….we had an engine repair light come on so I made an appointment for the car to be booked in, which was the 8th of August at 7.30am, I recieved a phone call at around 9.40 asking for all the service history in the car which was then sent to them via email. The garage was contacted by Perry’s and they then forwarded the invoices to prove that all parts and oil were supplied using Vauxhall approved parts. I then was told that this evidence needed to be sent to the head office to where they would make a decision as to whether the car would be covered through warranty as the car is only 2.5 years old.
I recieved an email 2 days later saying that Vauxhall are not going to agree for the repair to be made at this point and the only way we could move forward was for the stage one repair to be paid for and then they put the claim in and we would have to wait to see whether they would reimburse the money, at a cost of £1284.58. The stage one repair would be a new wet belt and oil pump clean. Stage 2 would be a new oil pump if stage 1 was not to fix the problem and stage 3 would be a new engine, which at this stage they feel we should pay for.
As we are on a PCP the car is not ours, it is on finance through Vauxhall finance, which I let Perry’s know. I have emailed Vauxhall financial with all the above information, I have not at this point had a response and my car is still at perrys with advice for me not to drive!
The question is the car is still under warranty they have all evidence that Vauxhall approved parts have been used, how are they able to even question whether the claim. It seems to me that Vauxhall will be fighting Vauxhall. If anyone has any advice or can give me any information as to why we are having to go through all this, we would truly appreciate it.
Regards

Its now 5 ½ years since we ordered the Mrs’ Fabia and since our plans to replace each car every 3 years following retirement were scuppered by first Covid and then by the supply issues its time we sorted something.
We are pretty much in agreement what features we want eg, auto, petrol (turbo or hybrid), climate, cruise and whilst an electric handbrake would be nice its not essential. By yesterday it was down to a shortlist of 3:... Read more
Thanks for info, but I think that says more about how Skoda have become expensive!

Hi all ,just had my renewal quote from saga up from£219.16 to £386.68 an increase of 76.43% ! £ 167.52 more , no change from my side, anyone else feeling ripped off ! Read more
Just reviving this thread with my latest encouraging(ish) experience.
I am with LV with renewal at the end of October. I paid £253 last year. As an early benchmark I got a quote back in August from their online wing Flow for £336 so I was expecting a hefty renewal rise. However running my details through a comparison site I got best quotes of £256. This included Flow which was surprisingly low given their previous price....
Hi,
An old topic but a chat with a car salesman’s on Monday got me thinking.
He works for a Porsche dealer and they have been doing well post covid.
However, noticed a slight slowdown July and August but nothing unusual with it being holiday time.
However he tells me they are expecting a drastic slow down next year when more people renew mortgages or have rental increases and new PCP rates are too much especially on anything Porsche sell.
Internally they are already discussing lowering sales targets for next year and even staff levels, and likewise pushing heavily sales this September as he stated it will be the best September for a good few years,
With interest rate hikes and cost of living hikes (both of which I understand, it is what happens when governments print money and lower its value), do forum contributors only expect it to hit the top of the market and effect luxury makes such as Porsche and prestige makes such as Mercedes or will it have a knock on effect for the rest of the car market?
A good opportunity for the likes of Suzuki and Dacia to grow further?
I thought it was worth sharing, it’s certainly got me reconsidering my current plan to change cars this Autumn and maybe hold off until next summer.

Just read a comparison test of a vw Id3 and an mg4. They gave the pcp costs over 3 years with a £5000 deposit on each.
The vw cost was 36 x £555 (£19980) + £5000 deposit = £24980!
The mg cost was 36 x £454 (£16344) + £5000 deposit = £21344!...
From dealing with customers daily, it’s become clear that there’s a sizeable proportion of people who are getting left behind by the new terminology and technology that EV’s bring.
So, with the cooperation of the forum moderators, this is your opportunity to ask the questions that have been nagging away.
Let’s start with the basic stuff - charging, range, driving - the questions I get asked, day in, day out.
As an introduction, I’ve been working on behalf of multiple car manufacturers for nigh on twenty years, largely in a product training role, and for the past two years almost exclusively with EV’s.
Discussion stays on the regular posts, this is somewhere to ask a question and get an answer.
If you don’t want to put your user name to it, email moderators@honestjohn.co.uk and they’ll ask on your behalf.
I haven’t driven everything out there, so I can’t oblige with any reviews. Read more
<< Most often, it's not the voltage that kills but the level of current. I liked the analogy of electricity being equivalent to water, with voltage being equivalent to its temperature and current the amount of water. >>
The analogy always used to between voltage and pressure, not temperature ! At least where I was taught it.
There are a lot of comments online, but it seems that when you dig down a lot of comments praising Kia are about the style, features, and honeymoon period. There's very little about what they're like after 100,000 miles. Similarly a lot of the criticism is about the cars is from ten to twenty years ago. There's not a lot about the reliability or longevity of newer cars, and I haven't found much at all about which engines and transmissons are best, which tells me many of the comments are likely to be poorly informed.
Scotty Kilmer thinks the engines and transmissions will fail quickly, but he often contracts himself in different videos.... Read more
Kia engines are normally decent if some what not class leaders.
A good example is the 1.25 engine, bulletproof reliability but nothing special in terms of mpg or power.
Hi Everyone, just after some advice.
I have a 2015 Mazda CX-5 2.2D that has been serviced at the Mazda main dealership since ownership, the car has only done 67K and is currently a mechanical write off due to a seized engine caused by oil starvation, cost for repair £7500... Read more
Well, the word has certainly got around this forum. We have been warning people about potential issues with Mazda diesels for many years.
Looking at Autotrader for used cars, if you rank the results in price order, the cheapest CX-5s are diesels. So no doubt dealers are fully aware of the Mazda-diesel issue....
Morning All.
If an MOT advisory appears in year 1, but not year 2, is it safe to assume that the item has been rectified?
Or could it have been missed at the year 2 MOT? Read more
No . All cars have some degree of corrosion on the brake discs . It’s actually very difficult to fail an mot on brake disc corrosion. They have to be in an almost dangerous condition for that . Delaminating metal and thin material would fail . Excessive corrosion does not always affect efficiency on the brake roller test .Not true in Edinburgh in the 1980's. I failed for "visible rust" each and every time, though they passed the brake function test each and every time too. Eventually, for the Renault 5, I took the new disks off after the MOT and put the unshiny-but-functional set back on, keeping the shinies in a plastic bag for the next MOT. Think I only did that a couple of times though.

Tomorrow sees the ULEZ take in much of London inside the M25. The cameras have been installed but 9/10 seem to have been disabled. Counties surrounding the capital are refusing to have warnings of a ULEZ coming up on their roads. Papers are full of stories on how individuals are being affected and it's mostly the poorer ones who can't afford a newer car or pay the charge, all so Kahn can raise a few million bob. Read more
A report shows that the Birmingham ULEZ have given a much lower reduction in NOx that originally expected, 7% rather than 13% - it also shows that the areas outside the ULEZ have also benefitted www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-66660039
It may well be that London's original ULEZ has already benefitted the outer areas and that the new extension achieves little or no further reduction....
Could be the reason - someone with Service Box access could look up the official Vauxhall service schedule to see what's listed....
