I've just bought a 2011 Kia Rio 1.4 petrol. There's much to like about the car but having driven it for quite few hours, now, I have to say I find it most uncomfortable to drive. One reason for this is that the clutch is on the heavy side and the biting point is near to the floor. It bites smoothly without judder, and gear changes are absolutely fine, but driving in stop-start traffic is really hard work and I have to sit nearer the steering wheel than i'd like because of the very low biting point. So...

Is there some way to adjust the bite point of the clutch?

Is there likely to be a way to make the clutch lighter?

Or is the only way to resolve this a totally new clutch?!

Just want to know if the above may be possible before I visit a mechanic. Thanks! Read more

i would have thought a low biting point was a good sign. maybe get use to it .just feels different to want your use to

So would I. Have you checked the fluid?

Hi all.

Just been invited to go to a 'special' event at toyota dealer where they are offering new cars at cost price, whatever that really means, plus £100, sounds like a bargain, or is this just another marketing exercise with lots of time wasting waffle?... Read more

Yes a flat battery would be a concern as I only do about 3k miles a year. I'd be looking at a corolla or CHR but I the corolla is getting old now and is very tight in the back. Have seen 6k off a Chr elsewhere but is about to be replaced with a new model.

New C-HR hybrid demonstrators are due in UK Toyota showrooms this December. ...

I recently experienced the driver-assist features in a VW Polo. All of them were terrible. The car would routinely mis-identify lanes, sound a siren and flash a screen telling me to stop, pop-up unhelp warning whenever approaching roundabouts, and it would release the handbrake prematurely when starting on hills. It wasn't a feature set that impressed me.

I've read that automatic emergency braking (AEB) triggering erroneously has been an issue with some cars, including Hondas. I expected better from Honda.... Read more

Driver Assist is just that. If it was Driver replace they'd call it that. You still have control, so use it or lose it. Personally I don't want to be in a driverless pod.

But that's just me. I'm a bit of a luddite , I specifically turn off lane assist as I find it overly intrusive. I do like to at least steer.

Just wondering if anyone has anything sensible to say about the later versions of these, has the issues with sump filling / DPF been resolved? Do the facelifted cars ( post2019) still report as having the same issues as the pre 2017 models?

Anyone got a 2019 2.2D CX5 in ^^^ spec and got anything positive / negative to say about it? Read more

My dear old dad just parted with a significant amount of cash (especially compared to what he paid for the previous one and where he'll likely give up driving in 5 years or less, meaning he'll take a BIG depreciation hit, especially when accounting for the30%+ price bump in second hand values at the moment) for a car he did no research on (or any alternatives), a short test drive and now doesn't like (a LOT) and has found it very difficult to get used to.

My FIL did the same many years ago. I suggested the '70s Austin Princess may suit him. He went and bought one! He'd have the seat at maximum height in it s most forward position, because he complained he couldn't see the front of the bonnet. Got rid of it after a few months and bought a Volvo 360 from the garage a few doors away.

I bought a Princess many years later to cater for my increasing brood, perfect for my time and circumstances.

There is an interesting letter in the ""frequently asked questions". Basically a buyer has been perfectly happy with his EV and traded it after 3 years for the same car but latest model. It promised a range of some 285plus miles which he was happy with getting some 250 miles with the old model. The reality with the new one he says is "barely 200 in cold weather" due he thinks to the new car having a heat pump. He is having difficulty with rejecting the car on these grounds which would appear to me if the facts are true a valid reason. Range is almost a third less. Read more

Agreed about Fisker - as long as they can survive the first couple of years as a new brand to people. I’m assuming they’re working on the direct to customer model and not appointing any retail partners, or have I missed that?

I believe they are. They've subbed manufacturing out which might help them avoid teething issues.

If they've got the financial strength to get through early years I agree they might do well....

My mother is a long time serving traffic officer in France and she sent me a footage taken by her partner from a road collision between two Tesla's that took place a couple of weeks ago.

She describes a series of multiple explosions that followed an intense fire that required a full two lanes civic road to be shut.... Read more

Hi,

So....I placed an order for a brand new 308 SW (what a gorgeous looking car ??) in May this year. Initially had a look at one in dealership quick chat to sales guy and left him to sort his best deal and went home. He later emailed me the deal which I accepted and signed Vehicle Order Form online. Delivery estimate 1st August. All happy.....

Step forward to late July and contact via email to say expecting car within days as it had arrived in the country...

4th August I get a V5 for my new car in the post! Queried with garage and advised due within days....

As of today I still haven't had contact to advise car is at the dealership...I had a little moan a couple of weeks ago and manager said he'd refund me a couple of months car tax and a full tank of petrol.

My issue now thought is not only have I lost out on car tax but also will be well over a month's warranty and worst of all surely as it's going to be after 1st September before I get the car it should be a 73 plate not a 23?

I can only assume the garage registered for their benefit financially before they got sight of the car?

Am I right in feeling really aggrieved here?

I've no problem with it being delayed it just doesn't seem right I will end up with a 23 plate car after September!!

I'm tempted to threaten to walk away from the deal (I never paid a deposit) and see what they say.....

Anyone else had something similar??

Don't want to mention the dealer yet as not given them chance to see what they'll do but it's a big national dealership...

Thanks Neil Read more

In my opinion, if you don’t get the keys by next Friday I would walk away and demand a full refund.

That is unless you got a seriously good deal making it cheaper than a pre reg option.

If you do walk away consider getting a new Vauxhall astra. It’s the same car but likely it will have bigger discounts.

Signed up for help with this car..

After 20 years of being stored in a leaky garage, our 1992 Escort Cosworth had finally been unearthed.

The cars quite a state (Can’t seem to find a way of uploading a photo..).

So I’m here to find a good, solid, one-stop shop to restore the Escort to her for my glory.

Any recommendations? We’ve seen R&M Classics on instagram who seems to 1) Not need the business and 2) Be guesstimating at a premium with quotes of £20K minimum.

All input and advice greatly welcomed !! Read more

The other issue is the fortune it would cost to run if the OP decided to keep it after it was 'restored' to its former glory. Sky-high insurance (prime candidate for theft, type of driver associated with ownership, little safety features, etc), pitiful mpg, high VED, no ULEZ exemption as it's only 31 years old and not 40+, likley specialized (and thus high) general maintenance costs.

A former manager of mine had (and maybe still has) a Aston DB5 in similar condition - he spent over £000k to do it up - yes, it's now worth a lot more and looks great (it did the last time I saw it, admitedly some years ago now), but he could afford it as he was near to retirement with a life of savings to pay for it.

Looking for iridium plugs for this car and I notice that tightening torque is listed as 23 Nm for Bosch and 17 Nm for Denso. I am not confusing the 1.2 engine with the 1.0 so I fail to understand why the torque setting would be different. Could someone please enlighten me. Read more
