Sad to see the new Toyota Prius is not coming to the UK. It looks superb. I know there are good reasons why it is not coming over here but it is a shame they have dangled this stunning looking car in front of us only to make it ultimately out of reach. Read more
People have been speculating about SEAT's possible demise for a while now.
It's interesting to see that my local dealer is now offering a range of discounts, most notably £2,500 cash discount on an Ateca. Conversely, it's only a £500 deposit contribution on a Leon.... Read more
drivethedeal.com always have what appear to be good deals on brand new SEATs eg. £6.5k off a £29k Ateca 1.5 EVO, or £3.4k off a £21.8k Ibiza FR (although add £750 if there isn't already a SEAT in the household, and £500 if you don't take out SEAT finance).
We've got a 2018 1.5 150ps Arona FR, and we really like it - not too big (Polo floorpan I believe) but easy to get into, reasonably quick, and comfortable despite the FR spec. Only do them with DSG now though - not sure I'd want to risk that,
The moral of the story? Not quite sure.

My son's g/frnd got caught in our old Focus in Colchester. Looked like turning left into a perfectly normal junction, but small blue sign on photo said 'buses only' or some-such. Not exactly obvious to non-locals, but no doubt a rewarding money spinner for the good burghers of C'ster.
Indeed, Colchester High street has been restricted access for some time, but a nice money spinner now that is enforced. If I need to go to the town, Bus stop is 100 yards away, stops on High st. 400 yd walk to return bus stop as High st is part of 1 way system, (and I might add not to bad) except for the hordes of uber/justeat and other delivery riders, drivers and for a while till it got stopped food delivery riders on the legal rented scooters. Oh and the traffic wardens have a field day daily as there is no public parking except for a good few disabled spaces....

I'm looking to change my current car, a Fabia to a small suv such as the Vitara from 2015 on or a late series 1 or early series 2 Tiguan. I only cover 12,000 miles at the most so diesel would be out for service, although I may consider looking at one as at the weekend I cover around 150 miles out and about with the dogs.... Read more
SX4 scross mechanically very much the same, bodywise very slightly larger, with a slightly larger boot. Probably rides slightly lower but not much.
I've just bought a 2011 Kia Rio 1.4 petrol. There's much to like about the car but having driven it for quite few hours, now, I have to say I find it most uncomfortable to drive. One reason for this is that the clutch is on the heavy side and the biting point is near to the floor. It bites smoothly without judder, and gear changes are absolutely fine, but driving in stop-start traffic is really hard work and I have to sit nearer the steering wheel than i'd like because of the very low biting point. So...
Is there some way to adjust the bite point of the clutch?
Is there likely to be a way to make the clutch lighter?
Or is the only way to resolve this a totally new clutch?!
Just want to know if the above may be possible before I visit a mechanic. Thanks! Read more
i would have thought a low biting point was a good sign. maybe get use to it .just feels different to want your use to
So would I. Have you checked the fluid?
Hi all.
Just been invited to go to a 'special' event at toyota dealer where they are offering new cars at cost price, whatever that really means, plus £100, sounds like a bargain, or is this just another marketing exercise with lots of time wasting waffle?... Read more
Yes a flat battery would be a concern as I only do about 3k miles a year. I'd be looking at a corolla or CHR but I the corolla is getting old now and is very tight in the back. Have seen 6k off a Chr elsewhere but is about to be replaced with a new model.
New C-HR hybrid demonstrators are due in UK Toyota showrooms this December. ...
I recently experienced the driver-assist features in a VW Polo. All of them were terrible. The car would routinely mis-identify lanes, sound a siren and flash a screen telling me to stop, pop-up unhelp warning whenever approaching roundabouts, and it would release the handbrake prematurely when starting on hills. It wasn't a feature set that impressed me.
I've read that automatic emergency braking (AEB) triggering erroneously has been an issue with some cars, including Hondas. I expected better from Honda.... Read more
Driver Assist is just that. If it was Driver replace they'd call it that. You still have control, so use it or lose it. Personally I don't want to be in a driverless pod.
But that's just me. I'm a bit of a luddite , I specifically turn off lane assist as I find it overly intrusive. I do like to at least steer.
Just wondering if anyone has anything sensible to say about the later versions of these, has the issues with sump filling / DPF been resolved? Do the facelifted cars ( post2019) still report as having the same issues as the pre 2017 models?
Anyone got a 2019 2.2D CX5 in ^^^ spec and got anything positive / negative to say about it? Read more
My dear old dad just parted with a significant amount of cash (especially compared to what he paid for the previous one and where he'll likely give up driving in 5 years or less, meaning he'll take a BIG depreciation hit, especially when accounting for the30%+ price bump in second hand values at the moment) for a car he did no research on (or any alternatives), a short test drive and now doesn't like (a LOT) and has found it very difficult to get used to.
My FIL did the same many years ago. I suggested the '70s Austin Princess may suit him. He went and bought one! He'd have the seat at maximum height in it s most forward position, because he complained he couldn't see the front of the bonnet. Got rid of it after a few months and bought a Volvo 360 from the garage a few doors away.
I bought a Princess many years later to cater for my increasing brood, perfect for my time and circumstances.
Electric car tyres are 40 per cent more likely to fail MOT than petrol vehicles (msn.com)... Read more
Oh yes they exist in my family. One of my brothers wouldn't know what a screwdriver was for. It took ages for me to convince him the MOT was not a service and that was something additional.
There is an interesting letter in the ""frequently asked questions". Basically a buyer has been perfectly happy with his EV and traded it after 3 years for the same car but latest model. It promised a range of some 285plus miles which he was happy with getting some 250 miles with the old model. The reality with the new one he says is "barely 200 in cold weather" due he thinks to the new car having a heat pump. He is having difficulty with rejecting the car on these grounds which would appear to me if the facts are true a valid reason. Range is almost a third less. Read more
Agreed about Fisker - as long as they can survive the first couple of years as a new brand to people. I’m assuming they’re working on the direct to customer model and not appointing any retail partners, or have I missed that?I believe they are. They've subbed manufacturing out which might help them avoid teething issues.
If they've got the financial strength to get through early years I agree they might do well....
Ireland, despite being so close to the UK, has different car tastes. They’re big into Toyota - it would not be far off to say that every other car on the road there is a Toyota.
They also prefer saloons as opposed to hatchbacks. Cars are dearer in Ireland and many Irish buy from the UK.
