Suppose, hypothetically, that you had been passing a very scruffy old Datsun pickup truck parked in one of those soon-to-be developed areas where parking restrictions are not enforced, which tend to collect old and possibly abandoned vehicles.
(I parked my truck somewhere like this near Kings Cross, but it was a well dodgy area even by London standards and was eventually vandalised and stolen)... Read more
I love a strange engine. Great viewing for others that do or, indeed, people interested in energy storage.
possibly even super efficient flywheels (for dealing with short-term fluctuations in the grid's ability to meet demand)
There used to be a 'repeater station' on the A5 that was used to boost telecoms signals. The power supply consisted of an electric motor driving a generator via a ruddy great flywheel that had a clutch to a diesel engine. If the power failed, the clutch would engage the engine and the flywheel was supposed to have enough energy to start it. If the flywheel ever broke away, it was reckoned it would stop about forty miles down the A5!...
I had a Pug on finance but paid it off early. Part of the deal was a limited 5 year warranty (mainly engine failure). (The roll bar came up as an advisory last year but was not covered).
If I don't have my service with them this limited warranty is void.
Do I continue even though service is between £60-100 more with them than an indie (depending on whether major)?
I've had a Pug engine fail out of warranty previously that I serviced at an indie and their customer services sorted it for free. It was apparently a common issue.
I've also had a VW fail months outside warranty and serviced with the dealership. VW wouldn't help at all. Read more
This 1.6 HDI 3008 engine is pretty bulletproof, its the ad blue system / tank that is the known weak point.

Hi all I’m very worried as last night I was travelling just now on the Great west road in west London. Between Syon Lane and Osterley station going east bound the lights were solid red for 10seconds so I stopped however I was very close to the line.
However my shoes were very wet, I stupidly was about to stall the car as it was in gear and my car crept forward at maybe 1 mph or something honestly this moved inches while I was balancing the biting point back down. Once my front two tyres went over slightly I saw a flash at which point I 100% am stationary however my car didn’t move and maybe 1 second later there was another flash.
Again I hold my lands up I shouldn’t of ever been that close to the white lines. Any idea with best of ur knowledge will I now get £100 and 3 points? Many thank I’m advance Read more
Just wait for a letter.
As Skidpan says, there's limited value in worrying until you get a letter making am allegation and asking you to name the driver etc. One hopes that, where you cross the line minorly as here, then even if the camera is triggered then either the software or a human will mean no NIP follows. ...
Fuse panel has 10 fuses, and 3 modules (light flasher, light-on warning buzzer, and wiper control on the front, and lots of contacts on the back.
All the contacts both sides have tiny little numbers moulded next to them, though irritatingly the ones on the back are upside down relative to in-car orientation. Maybe that makes more sense if you are Japanese.... Read more
There are 2 cases of duplicate and 1 of quadruplicate fuse contact numbers (moulded on the fuse panel) tending to confirm that some continuity between fused circuits is by design, rather than evidence of short circuit damage.
This is nice from one POV, since I can (provisionally) eliminate the fuse panel as a fault source. I probably couldn't get another fuse panel anyway....
Hello all, I have a budget of 10/11k and after a SUV. It needs to be economical, descent boot, comfortable ride. max 80k mileage, 2014 plus. I was thinking of Honda HRV, Mazda cx5. Thanks Read more
Manual, probably 5-8k a year, would be 40% motorway. Thanks
Given your low mileage, go with petrol-engined cars. Yes, you'll get 20-30% less mpg, but the chances of buying a diesel-engined example that is in good nick and has been driven sympathetically (i.e. not mostly short trips from cold) to keep the DPF etc in good order is rather a lottery unless you personally know the previous owner well....
Hi, does anyone know if the subframe has to be dropped to replace the clutch on this model. Read conflicting statements online, would really appreciate a definitive answer, thanks. Read more
I would have a look on the Kevin Albert Williams clutch videos on youtube pretty sure he has a video of him doing one, well worth a watch.
Hi everyone
I’m picking up my new vehicle this weekend and part exchanging my current car which has a a private plate. Previously when I have sold my car I have always put my plate onto retention. However the guy at the garage said we can transfer my private plate onto my new vehicle? I’m assuming I will have to wait until I get the V5 through before I can actually stick my new plates onto the new car?
Thanks Read more

If you haven't noticed this seems to be running again.
Any experience or opinions? Specifically, is the scooter kit likely to be usable on a motorcycle, since I don't currently have a scooter in Taiwan?

"There are leg covers specifically designed for motorbikes" Yes there are such devices - they are normally called waterproof overtrousers.
I have seen a more elaborate, non-trouser solution (i.e. fixed to the bike, I think to the crashbars) on actual motorbikes on the streets of Istanbul in winter, but unfortunately I dont think I got any pictures, and cant remember exactly how it was arranged, but did think it might be useful in the UK.
Rather unlike these Turkish tarpaulin things, scooter skirts in Taiwan are mostly so girls can stop their legs getting tanned, which is conventionally considered unattractive in Tchiwanese culture, being associated with field working peasantry.
