Hi

We now have 3 rescue dogs so we are looking for a nice family vehicle for at least 4 adults and 3 dogs and going to the tip. It will be a 2nd car so budget less than £6k... Read more

really impressed though with the Ford Galaxy and could get a decent one under £5k BUT I have read that you need to avoid like the plague the auto gearbox .. is that true ?

The Galaxy is the same under the skin as the Mondeo and S-Max, the auto versions of which use the Powershift (DCT). As with most of these, they can be reliable, but a lot of that is down to how previous owners have driven them. And how would you find that out?. ...

A 1987 car with only %K miles has just sold at action for £596K Not a bad investment for a Sierra. I suppose the buyer will only store it and look at it. A lot earlier than this I had a test drive in a Cavalier GSI and had never driven a performance car before. Needless to say it scared the pants of me a bit after only driving a 998cc Austin A40. Has anyone else a memory of driving a quick car for the first time and what was it?

Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section!!! Read more

Yeah, cambelt these days is relatively straightforward, and not expensive.

The 406 coupe is absolutely gorgeous, pity it had the saloon's dashboard.

I can't be the only one that's bewildered by the method by which threads are ordered. If you reply to a certain comment, it appears your comment goes directly under that one. Sometimes, though, I see things that look out of order or new comments at the bottom of the thread.

I seem to have to log in every time I enter the forum and it's only then that I can see which threads have new posts. Even then, I have to scroll up and down the thread to find the post. ... Read more

Not content with bringing back the rotary engine in the forthcoming MX-30 PHEV, Mazda are about to offer its bigger sibling CX-60 with a 48v mild hybrid 3.3 litre, straight six diesel with an 8 speed twin clutch transmission.
They do like to do things their way. Read more

3.3 diesel might well prove popular amongst the towing fraternity. A lot of their go to vehicles seem to lose their diesel engine option when a facelift is rolled out and EV range is pretty catastrophic when towing, plus charging with a caravan or trailer in tow is practically impossible.

Charging when towing a caravan is quite possible - but quite involved as it means unhitching the caravan in the car park, charging the car and then rehitching the caravan - it's needed every 100 miles or so as the energy consumption is much higher when towing.

Imagine the chaos in motorway service stops with that happening on a Saturday in July or August? Bad enough now with just a few non-Tesla EVs hogging the charging points like the old addage of German tourists and sunloungers....

Hi, this is my first time posting but having been back and forth with my car to my mechanic I was hoping for some help/advice. My 2007 diesel Ford S Max was losing coolant. My mechanic diagnosed an issue with the thermostat housing which he then replaced. When I got the car back there was diesel leaking. He assured me it was just where he had to remove the injector and fuel had dropped down into the belly pan underneath and was simply spilling out whilst I was driving. He jet washed it all out. I had the car back and drove the car 10 miles but then white smoke was coming from under the bonnet and it was clear there was a fuel leak. Back to the mechanic it went.

Looking around at how car designs have changed I can see the advantage of owning a Golf or Audi saloon way past their sell by date.

The designs haven’t changed much over the years . Take a Mk 5 Golf coming up to 19 years old and it still looks fresh.... Read more

Thanks for your contribution Sammy, but I can’t see how your argument applies to the Honda Civic ?

The civic has grown in size and with the full hatchback reminds me of a Skoda Octavia. Style is in the eye of the beholder and with mine and other comments on far eastern cars my money goes to the Skoda.. I have driven the latest Octavia Challenge and it is a very nice piece of kit. Again as I said before the basic shape has been around since the hatch was first dreamed about sort of half an estate that you could get a washing machine in

I contacted a private seller. I asked if the car was registered in his name and he said No. he said no. He said he bought it at auction and had not sent off the paperwork to the DVLA.

So it was still not registered to him. However, he said he did n't want to, as he was going to sell it. ... Read more

That doesn't sound to me like the actions of a private seller - quite the opposite. Ask when he bought the last car at auction ?

Has anyone else noticed how dirty cars have become lately? I know that it is winter and there is a lot of road filth due to salting. Around where I live it has hardly rained for two weeks or more and the need for salt has been negligible. Of more concern perhaps is the fact that you can hardly see a rear number plate on some cars let alone read it. Perhaps a dirty car is becoming a badge of honour or more so the speed cameras cannot read the plate. The chances of being pulled by plod is very low> Read more

Last week I was at the Leisure centre at the side of an A road and at the traffic lights both sides there were Police motorcyclists directing cars in for checks. One of them was a Corsa with the rear numberplate totally obscured and others for other reasons obviously. There were also a few leaving their cars and walking away towards the bus stop. So when Plod want a bit of overtime that's what happens round here.

Kent Police pull drivers off the A20 onto the A224 by Homebase for the same reason, often go past with a few cars pulled onto main road (several bus routes on that road) must be a full time job the amount of traffic on that A20/M20

Following on from my rant on Randoms topic about Chinese cars I had the opportunity to have a look under the skin of a Tesla today, with the under bonnet plastic tray removed I was shocked to see that all the inner panels where only painted in a really thin coat of primer.

I know most cars, including my current vitara are not finished to the same standard as the exterior panels in the less visible areas but at least they are the same colour, this thing was so poorly primed that one could still see the discoloration of the spot welds which themselves where very few and far apart, I walked away shaking my head, even the guy working on it ( new shocks and coil springs at 18 months old) said that under the skin it left a lot to be desired.
