Hi, first post on the forum. Just interested in your opinion about retraining as a mechanic in my early 50s? Could this be possible? I’m not behind the door when it comes to spanners, I’ve had a lot of life experiences on many types of tools and jobs.
I’m just interested in your opinions about retraining at my age. Thanks Read more

Odd how with a 'semiconductor crisis' more EVs were built than ever before.

Could it be that the most expensive cars, and EVs aren't cheap, got theirs just fine whilst the Plebs had to wait (as well as pay more for the 'priviledge') or go without and stick with what they currently have or fork out more for a second hand car? Read more

Thank you for sharing the update on the drop in new car sales amid the semiconductor crisis. It's unfortunate that the pandemic-related global parts shortages have had such an impact on the market. The forecast for 2023 with "erratic supply" sounds concerning, but it's hopeful to see that the demand for electric vehicles is increasing, with December achieving its largest monthly market share for EVs. Click This Link for more cars articles. It's essential for the government and manufacturers to support the transition to electric mobility and invest in charging infrastructure to encourage more private buyers to go electric. However, the cost pressures and uncertainties may still pose challenges for the sector in the coming year.

The radio in my 19 plate Ateca SE Tech. has developed a strange fault: AM and FM bands are completely silent. With volume turned up, not even a hiss or crackle of static; nothing but silence when presets are selected or while manual tuning. By contrast, DAB band continues to work normally.

I tried resetting the head a couple of times (long press and hold of on/off button) but no change.

If it was a poor reception issue or aerial problem, I would have thought there would be still at least some kind of noise with the volume turned up, but all is silent. As I said, DAB continues to work normally.

Any suggestions, anyone? Read more

I always thought there was a powered aerial amp on most VAG models re AM/FM?

DAB would be via a different aerial.

I am looking to get a bigger car,I have a 9 mo th old baby, two dogs and my Toyota Yaris a 2011 plate is doing very well for its age, under miles at 38,000,no issues and in great condition its just quite small.Am looking to get something bigger, something reliable, safe, an automatic would be a dream,I do not do many miles so a petrol would be fine.I will be trading my Yaris in and getting a loan for the rest but was hoping for something under £12,000 if possible.By suggestions? Is there anyway of testing if the DPF regeneration is still working on a 2015 X250 XFS?

I've just had a new battery fitted and before and after fitting the battery, the mechanic plugged in an Autel scanner and the only fault code that came up was PO52F, a permanent fault with the Glow Plug Module System. He tested all the glow plugs and all were fine so he thinks that fitting a new Glow Plug Module will cure this fault.

There are no warning lights on the car and it drives 100% fine but if the Glow Plug Module isn't working, DPF regenerations won't take place - I haven't noticed a DPF regen for a few weeks. Is there anyway of testing if the DPF regeneration is still working? Even if I take the car on a long run, it may not regen the DPF as it's not as though it happens on every long run. Thanks in advance. Read more

A decent app and EODB reader might tell you when regen last occurred and what level of ash is in the DPF.

So, following on from being driven into yesterday, sitting waiting at a give way this morning a pedestrian runs along the pavement to my left and straight into the busy major road trying to catch a bus. Apart from seemingly setting an altitude record off the top of the windscreen of the car that hit her, she’s a bit battered and bruised but largely unscathed. Modern car design saved a lot of injuries.
It’s time to look at getting dash cams in our cars - if you have one, what is it and would you recommend it? Read more

There are a few cams out there but it depends on your budget, I used to have a nextbase front and rear cameras fitted by halfords I found the front camera got very hot, I mean VERY hot, a bit worrying but turning off the screen cured this, I now have a blackvue front and rear set up powered by an external battery which is hardwired via a permanent and ignition controlled fuses, which is better than the park mode supplied , it’s not cheap, but it works just fine and am pleased with it as it doesn’t have a screen and downloads directly to my phone, you can subscribe and pay a monthly fee to upload to the cloud so you can view your camera from anywhere but I don’t use this feature,
