Perhaps a bit too aggressive., IMO.

I understand (and would share) your suspicion, but you have no proof., and as I understand it you are a long way from the vehicle....

I need to change the rear discs and pads on my wifes BMW 320D. I have a caliper rewind tool somewhere but can't find it. Can the pistons just be pushed back in or do they have to be wound in? If they can be just pushed I used to use a G clamp and a small block of wood. Many Thanks, Stuart Read more

As far as i'm aware E90 kept the excellent drum inside disc design of parking brake as fitted to E46 (an expensive to make quality system, not like the cheap to manufacture self adjusting calipers some other makes fit), so the foot brake calipers are like any normal front disc brake in that the pistons will push back in, no special tools required.

Look online for how to slacken off the parking brake shoes, if they have worn a groove in the existing drums then without adjusting them off you'll find it difficult to remove the disc/drums...note you might have to jack the car up again after a few miles to re-adjust the parking brake shoes once they have bedded in....

Agreed, and the website itself is devoid of any useful information. It looks like it was knocked up in about ten minutes.

I'm also curious about the URL; what does it have to do with cars exactly?

I know quite a few people who are finding driving at night difficult. Ok when they are on the motorway or well lit roads but B roads when an oncoming car has those superbright searchlights for headlights theycan be blinding. Some taillights are so starkly bright you can't look at them. White lines degrade and are not redone so making life harder. Read more

Bought car from second hand dealers. The dealer agreed to put full M.O.T on car on 25/10/2018.

Noticed that the handbrake only just holds car when handbrake pulled up to last link and not holding when stopped on slight gradient. ... Read more

This link shows parking brake efficiency should be 25% or, for split dual braking systems, 16%. www.motuk.com/mot_manual/3-10.asp..

Presumably the lower figure is based on dual circuit systems unlikely to fail completely. 16% should still hold on most steep hills anyway....

So long story short- I saw on ebay a classic car that was described being in great condition, running well, and would need very little tlc.

It was a long way from home, so after a couple of calls and discussions with the private (but I think does sell a few motors here and there) seller I decided to risk it. We agreed he would deliver the car to me, which he did (albeit several hours later than planned so it was dark by the time he arrived).... Read more

You bought an old car unseen off eBay and it turned out to be a pup. Sorry but you made a mistake and you got bitten, there’s no comeback here. If anything it’s just a lesson in life.

My car passed the MOT 2 months ago. Failed on emission first itme and Lambarda sensor had gone. After replacing and retesting the technician it was now running at prefect emissions.

Today the engine management light came on and my regular garage (different to MOT garage) say it is catalytic converter performing under threshold for banks 1 & 2.... Read more

The fault code related to catalyst efficiency problem, is enough to illuminate the Mil light, and thus create an Mot fail. However,in more cases than not,the mot emission test will record a pass. Bit of an anomaly.

After looking around for a hot/ warm hatch that I plan to replace my current Toyota Yaris with next year. I find myself back to square one. I have test driven a 2016 Fiesta ST, VW Polo GTI and Renault Clio RS and find that although each one is very quick, they didn’t put a smile on my face like the Suzuki Swift Sport did, that until I drive a Toyota GT86 last week.

My current car loves to rev and although these new turbo car are quick and efficient, they just sound synthetic and not the sound of an engine roaring through the gears, so that’s it then either a Suzuki Swift Sport or Toyota GT86 depending on what money I have left.

Any thoughts? Read more

I always had a soft spot for the Renault Clio RS, but the new one is awful and such a clunky auto box. I can pick up a 2010 one for £8k with 30k miles on the clock, it still has the 2.0 NA engine, but I have never had my head and hands under the bonnet so those bills may get expensive as I’d rather get someone else to do it.

Most of my cars have never been more than 3 years old.
