Hi,

I have a 2010 Vx Corsa D 1.4 auto. The engine management light keeps coming on after refuelling. I have a hand-held OBD2 reader, but this shows no fault code, yet if I erase the messages, the light goes off for a while. The light seems to come on about a mile after refuelling, no matter how much I put in. Could the cap be the problem? If you don't fit the cap carefully, a petrol smell gets into the cabin.... If the mil light is on, there will be a fault code stored. You are going to need a bigger scanner. The fault may or may not be related to the fuel cap system.

Its that time of the year again. 1st sign of any mist and the muppets put the rear fogs on. Even worse on a motorway dual carriageway when you are following someone in a long line of traffic and they insist on leaving the fogs lights on. A Solution would be for manufacturers to link the use of the fog lights to a speed limiter meaning the vehicle can only travel at a maximum of say 50mph when the rear fog lights are on. This would encourage people to drive at a safer speed when you need them on and switch them off when you dont

Up in the north west of the UK, We often get the cheapest prices of fuel on the forecourt and over the last couple of years, the difference between diesel and unleaded has been 2p give or take a little, Now diesel is almost 10p higher than petrol.

Can anyone explain why the big difference .... Read more

A quick google comes up with a recent government published document analyzing the market.

It would appear the UK refining process is geared up to produce petrol and heating grade diesel so the UK is a big exporter of petrol and one of the biggest OECD importers of road diesel....

Car tax costs are due to go up after it was confirmed in the Budget that another rise in Vehicle and Excise Duty (VED) will take effect from next year.

The little-known plan to steadily hike car tax was included in last year's Autumn statement, which said that VED would increase in line with inflation in April 2018 and April 2019. ... Read more

Relying on Government subsidies reflects an ability to trust politicians - an ability I lost with Harold Wilson and the depreciation of the pound . I also lost the ability to believe their promises so am seldom disappointed.

As one of the most indebted countries for our size and population, no our govt should not be giving money away taken from our taxes.,,maybe there should be an opt out like in union dues for those who don't wish to contribute to the political (Labour) fund, so those who wish to patronise the world to virtue signal can pay, and those of us who don't won't.

Genuine life saving extraordinary events then yes of course we help out, but as for what isit now £13billion? it's gone beyond ridiculous....

For myself, I am much more frequently irritated by drivers trundling along at 38mph in NSLs (which speed they often maintain in 30 limits too) and creating rolling road blocks by following other slow vehicles especially lorries too closely, than by cyclists 'holding me up' for a couple of hundred yards.

I couldn't agree more with your post MT, and picking the above paragraph out in particular, it never cases to amaze me that even an the motorway i have been followed in my tanker by cars (and vans and other lorries) for miles so close that i can actually see the vehicle in the downward pointing reversing camera on the back of tank! so within 10ft, in the event of crash style stop the stainless fittings at the back are likely to be embedded permanently somewhere behind their teeth, you really have to wonder.

And yes the standard of driving in all vehicles is dropping fast, not helped by the vehicles increasingly taking the needed skills away, this will not end well.

I drive a Mazda CX-3 and I am surprised to see only one Japanese car in the top 10, especially as they are usually near the top of most reliability surveys.

"Dealers cut new car prices to combat 2019 market slump" HJ website needs to be careful as the headline is misleading - the article relates to used cars, not new cars. Yes certain dealers have reduced the prices of new cars and yes there are savings to be made by purchasing a pre-reg car - but there always has been, it has nothing to do with 2019 market slump. The article implies a pre-reg is the same as a new car, which of course it is not. Read more

So last week Thursday out for a lunchtime stroll through the shopping centre near work, I met up with two very helpful people seeking public opinion about the proposed new road tunnels under the Thames.(Lower Thames Crossing).

After a few choice words (polite words, they are only messengers) I understand the tunnel will now be 3 lanes each way (not 2 as originally proposed), and yes a bridge would be cheaper but the tunnels look better (ie invisible), and tunnels will take longer to construct.... Read more

A tunnel is more resistant to weather impacts - however hazardous loads will need longer stoppages.
