I have lost my owners manual which had my notes in it regarding basic service matters

Re the TT. Having just had a wheel bearing changed I would have that checked first.
My vehicle was OK until about 50, then the drone started. I also suspected tyres, but you could hear the bearing grinding when the hub was spun. Read more
Re BMW battery
"I have taken it back to Halfords where the mechanic checked the battery and said there was nothing wrong with it "
Get it checked by a battery specialist; Halfords don't have the required equipment.
What's wrong with continually insuring a motor vehicle? I think the first sentence in the article needs to be proof-read again by its author. Read more
The first sentence is badly phrased.
The 'terrible gas mileage' for the CR-V is partly explained by the fact that the reader is in the USA where gallons are about 20% smaller. Read more
I run a Polo GTI on Michelins and the front wheels no longer spin in the wet, a revelation compared to the original factory fitted Bridgestones
I was diagnosed with disruptive sleep apnoea many years ago and since then I use a CPAP machine every night which has helped me greatly. However, I remember a tip for drowsiness when driving and it is not possible to pull over and stop straightaway, and that is to chew gum. Personally I am not keen on the stuff but I always carry a packet in the car for long journeys. Whether it is the chewing action and the moving of the jaws, I don't know but it has been an enormous help on those occasions when I have been distance-driving. Read more
Some employers demand that their employees get up very early to drive a long way to arrive at a site or office early, spend a full day there, and then drive a long way back. No B&B, no breakfast lunch or dinner on expenses. Can be as much as an 18 hour day inc. 8 hours driving. Longer if stopping for a breakfast &/or dinner (paid out of ones own pocket). Ours even had a Driver Safety Procedure. It was kept secret from the employees of course, presumably the managers created it solely in the misguided hope that it would act as a beano annual down the back of their pants.
If it is a 'ghost' policy, I would expect that the vehicle would not show up as insured on the MIB database ?
I recommend that anyone who has purchased insurance should check to see if their vehicle shows as insured. I recently found one of my cars did not show up as insured, I had changed the number plate some 12 months ago, had received a replacement certificate, and taxed the car. Then at renewal the insurer sent out a renewal notice with the old registration, and when I checked the car did not show up as being insured. So at some point the insurers system had reverted back to the old registration, a vehicle that didn't really exist under that identity Read more
We have owned a 2008 Yaris 1.3TR for last four years which is fine and we love the firm seats but dont like the very heavy clutch pedal. Does the later Yaris retain the same seating and heavy clutch pedal? Or should we try the Jazz 1.4, does that have a light clutch pedal and what are the seats like?

Isn’t this what test drives are for? A heavy or otherwise clutch can be largely subjective, so the answer is to test drive the cars you are interested in. If you are worried about being talked into a sale, just remember it’s your money so you have control!
Yep - I'm with them for both phone and ISP and have found them (despite being owned by BT) to be a MILE better in terms of customer service and price.
When I was with BT for my phone when I moved into my home over a decade ago, I had ongoing issues with them incorrectly billing me and their (IMHO) stupid quarterly way of billing that changed my bill every time, despite me always staying within the bounds of my deal.... Read more
Thanks for all the feedback. Today a friend recommended EE. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of them? Their pricing is virtually identical to Plusnet.
I use EE mobile broadband when we're out with the tin tent - they have the most coverage although some place inevitably have no signal - only had to use their customer services once, they were very helpful and gave me the information I needed to fix the settings....
Heard on the grapevine that road charging per mile is back under discussion.
This is because the increase in electric vehicles had led to loss of revenue in VED.... Read more
Motorists have been paying £billions every year on tax, but the amount spent on roads is a small fraction of that. We are being bribed by our own money, again, and again, and again..
Not quite sure how you feel 'bribed'. The general problem is that many people expect the Govt to provide communal services, while somehow paying little for them. You might argue that the NHS should be paid for by those who use it most, but I can't see that going down well either....
This morning, going with my plumber along the road, witnessed a Renault traffic van drive through a large puddle by a bus stop and soaked evryone waiting.
Currently on hold to Police 101.. Read more
Thread drift is fine, but this stuff isn't even connected to motoring.
If you really must discuss this topic, start a new thread in the general section.
