I have been parking on the road opposite my house for ten years, since I moved in with my partner. She parks on the drive. I hadn't had a problem at all until some lowlife moved in opposite, around six months ago. He lives in the end flat and wants to park on the end. I have every right to park there, and do so if I'm there first. If he parks there I don't have a problem, it's a free country.

The first time he mentioned it, I explained that it isn't his space, anyone can park there. The next time he had more to say, and quickly got himself very angry without me saying anything at all. Today he was ranting and raving, I couldn't understand him but heard something along the lines of . . 'I will park there and block you in and stop you from going to work'. I could take that as a threat but I'm happy to leave it and continue to park there if I get there first.... Read more

Delivery drivers gnore them and just park anywhere.

I don't have an issue with that - usually deliveries are done right away and they won't be hanging about....

This has almost certainly been asked before, but I can't find a recent response, so thought I would ask afresh! My mx5's wheels are off to be refurbished next week, so while they are off I want to apply some kind of rust protection at least in the wheelarches (where there is no plastic liner), and possibly the chassis. Any advice or recomendations?

I don't want to be doing it again next year so would like to do a decent job first time. And even though it lives in the garage and doesn't often go out in the rain, I'm very conscious that mx5's do rust. My last one went in the wheel arch and needed a bit of welding, so hopefully with a bit of prevention I can avoid such problems!... Read more

When covering wheel arches I use poundlands "151 roof and gutter repair"...
(not the 151 roof and gutter sealant!)

works an absolute treat..

Sometimes I paint over it with normal water based household paint....

I also, use the paint to cover the brake pipes etc

Easy peasy, cheap as chips..
dead easy to clean off hand etc

Been under the arches for 4 years so far no probs..

It's time to get my 9th gen Civic serviced. I aquired the car a few months ago, it is 4 years old and has a full main dealer service history so far.

Does anyone who is familar with the Honda 12 and 12+ think they are good value for money compared to taking the car to a local garage which, from my PoV would be more convenient?... Read more

When Dad had the Micra the dealer was offering lower cost servicing for cars over 3 years old that only did low mileages so he took them up on the offer. Simple problem was that instead of using 5w30 semi synthetic oil as specified by Nissan they used 10w40 mineral oil to save money. Considering that these engines were known to have potential cam chain issues if the wrong oil or oil changes were were neglected we were not happy. After a lengthy discussion at the service desk which resulted in a very long queue at 5pm on a Friday afternoon they took the car back in and claimed to have changed the oil and they deducted the cost of the oil (£25) from the invoice. Being a trusting soul I did not believe for one minute they had done anything and the next day I dropped the oil and refilled with Asda 5w30 B3 spec at £15 for 5 litres.

As with everything in life when things are cheap there can easilly be a pitfall. How many of the cars they servised using the wrong oil have actually suffered failures I wonder, one would be too many.

So on my 3rd i40, it's not anywhere near as fuel efficient as my last 2. I'm wondering if perhaps as its euro 6, something somewhere is impacting on fuel.?

So I spoke to tuning guys who can do a remap.... Read more

"It will require a given amount of throttle to have the car maintain 70mph, so if the car has more power, it will require a smaller throttle opening to maintain the same speed, which surely will make a difference to the economy."

I stand to be corrected, but I think the logic here may be flawed. If I understand correctly, remaps get more power out of an engine by over-fueling - either slightly, or a lot. If this is the case, the "smaller throttle opening" may in fact be delivering more fuel than the car needs and the economy will suffer....

Just got a PCN ...gonna cost me £30 but noticed that the offence occured on 8 august but only got the letter today .... 28 september....i have read that they must send the PCN within 28 days or it will be dissmissed ???? does anyone actually know the law on this as i have read a few posts that differ from others....cheers ;)

Another thing connected ...this "offence" occured on the same day as i bought the car and i cannot be absolutely sure what time i bought the car,i think it was probably me driving at the time (photo evidence is shown) but the old owners dad did drive me around to show me how it went....... i did have this discussion with a friend of mine and we agreed that the time of sale really should be stated on the log book to stop this very thing happening.... Maybe worth checking the signage to see the restriction times for entering the bus lane. Usually between 9.30am and 4.30pm you are alright. I must say that bus lanes are normally very well marked and it should be difficult to stray into one inadvertently. I think Bromptonaut hit the nail on the head with his advice, but check anyway. They don't always get it right.

The relay is integrated into the engine bay fuse box.It is not a replacement item without the whole unit. There are fuses in the engine bay fusebox, but access is very difficult. You may have to remove the battery to get the lid off

Thank you for your help. I'll have a look tomorrow and try and trace the cable to see there's a break in it. I dis notice the cable to the high level brake light has been repaired so will start in that area Will also check to see if mirrors are heated as well.

I'm in the process of trying to make my first brand new car purchase, which, because of the options that I've chosen, will almost certainly be a factory build. I've spoken to several dealers and, without going into too much tedious detail, it has become obvious that their objective has been to dissuade me from buying the car that I want to buy in favour of a car that they want to sell me.

I've managed to find a dealer that's willing to sell me the car that I want at a price that's agreeable to me, but the quote that I've been given includes the following:... Read more

From a post halfway up the thread, Steve has sorted the problem out with the dealer and is presumably going ahead. We'll look forward to hearing about the Twingo in due course.

Our Mazda 6 tourer 14 plate has 78k miles and thinking might it be time to get rid. We've had a couple of low pressure warnings where the oil level has risen and the oil thinned by diesel dilution. Conscious there may be bigger problems to come. The car suits our needs; comfortable, responsive driving, spacious, and economical purchase price and on road.

We will continue to drive 20k/yr mainly driving 12 miles into town and also long journeys with 'A' roads and motorway. We have a rural location but do not require 4x4, if push comes to shove we can use farm truck.... Read more

If only Mazda did a petrol with a bit more performance we would defo go for that, we do like a drive and the Mazda D gives that.

Our local mechanic is very experienced I'll ask his opinion and specifically Merc experience....

I recently sold my Berlingo van, in a private sale and the buyer paid in cash, which came with an 11 month mot (with 2 minor advisories) I also provided all receipts of all work I had done to the vehicle whilst in my possession. The buyer has recently contacted me stating that the vehicle had been written off whilst in my care, which is not true, not even been in an accident with it. I did a hpi check on the vehicle (which admittedly I should have done when I purchased it) and it turned out to have been written off before I purchased it and salvaged by the previous owner. When I looked on the front of the v5 it clearly states that the vehicle has been previously salvaged and the buyer has signed this document (the buyer read the whole document and didn't question me on it at all, which is why I didn't realise and didn't mention it). The buyer is threatening to take me to court and demanding a refund, where do I stand on this matter? As far as I was aware I sold the vehicle in a road worthy state with all the correct documentation and relevant mot certificates etc and the buyer is insisting that I have mislead him when I was not even aware of this issue. I had a car buyer who reckoned I'd ripped them off. I offered to take the car back and refund them what they'd payed for it, less my subsequent advertising costs.

Never heard another word....
