Hi All,

Potentially jumping the gun but just to maybe set my mind as rest. Passed my C1 (That’s all I need for job) last Tuesday but the Examiner wouldn’t send off the license for me as he said my picture needed changing.

I got the pass certificate and have sent that off along with my License, D2 form, picture, and postal order and it says it’ll take upto three weeks.

Obviously it’s not been threee weeks and I’ve heard nothing yet and the online license check thing still doesn’t say I can drive C1.

Question is do the DSA hold records or inform the DVLA that I have passed? I’m paranoid that my certificate will get lost in the dungeons of Swansea offices and I’ll have no way to proove I passed apart from the DC25/Form they mark the driver faults on.

Basically just hoping some of you experienced drivers can put my mind at ease!

Cheers Read more

Well the key thing here is 'up to three weeks'. Only one has passed, so no point in worrying about it and certainly no point in chasing them up until after that time has passed. The examiner knows you passed and will undoubtably have records so just chill.

The power steering control module has an INTERMITTENT problem. Sometimes it works, but can fail at any time when driving. This means it is NOT burnt out, but clearly makes it rather dangerous to drive.

Has anyone else had this problem with a Meriva B, as opposed to the older model (Meriva A) ?... Read more

HJ has had reports of power steering problems:

I know very little about Vauxhalls but the same thing happened to our Focus, Ford's 'equivalent' model. A failing fuel pump had blown its fuse. Replacing the 15amp fuse with a 20amp one allowed us to proceed till I could get the struggling pump replaced. I guess Vauxhall will have a handbook with a similar 'Fuses' section to identify which fuse you should check.

Hope this is helpful - good luck!

I worked Sunday and as usual on a bone dry clear weather weekend there were several bumps on the motorway, pause for face palm, particularly the M1 Beds, typical early morning rollover mess going down waiting on recovery and when returning from my second delivery one particular shunt northbound between jcts 12 and 13 the outside lane was impassable due to several vehicles stranded following yet another bunch getting themselves in a pickle.

So, hard shoulder mergency only all the way, outside lane red X, and hundreds of cars completely ignored the outside lane X and drove through not one but two red X's in succession, only to have to move over to pass said stranded vehicles maybe 400 yards after X number 2.... Read more

Sat behind a car (big merc) this morning that turned right against lights that clearly displayed 'straight on or left turn only': goo.gl/maps/9xe2zGQLDHT2

Unfortunately, the camera only detects transgressors coming the other way.

I'm fitting a 12v aux power socket in the luggage compartment of a 2017 Ford Grand Torneo Connect. I will be using the blanked off hole at the rear on the right-hand side (intended for the ford optional extra 12v socket). I have pulled the rear r/h side plastic trim back and I found a spare blue/red wire taped to the wiring loom going to the rear fuse box that looks like it's more than capable of taking a 20 amp load. I got a 12v reading from the wire with the ignition switched off. I left the vehicle for over 1/2 an hour and checked the voltage again and still got 12v with the ignition off. I'm guessing that this wire is a feed to the rear fuse box for a non fitted optional extra. BTW only one side of the 12v aux power fuse is connected in the rear fuse box (i.e..only one leg to connect a fuse to) so I'm assuming the 12 aux power load side wire was not fitted.

My plan is to purchase a 12v aux power socket and connect the positive side of it to the blue/red wire via a 20 amp inline fuse and ground the connector's negative wire to the bodywork. ... Read more

Many thanks for your reply. If I use this connection I'll have to remember not to leave devices plugged in for too long - thanks for the advice.

My sons Fabia has been totally reliable until a few months ago he parked overnight to work on a film set. When he returned 12 hours later the car would not start and has failed to do so since. We have replaced the fuel pump and drained the petrol, fearing dirty fuel but even with fresh petrol it still will not start. There is petrol getting to injectors and the spark is present. It IS booked into Skoda dealer on 25th July but wonder if anybody out there can suggest what has happened here. My son maintained the car well and had a service only weeks before this happened. The engine does turn over ok. Read more

Unlikely to be an immobiliser fault. Any problem here usually allows the car to run for a few seconds ,and the engine mil light will flash. More in-depth investigation work required, you can't guess with modern cars. Would not be surprised if the fault were timing chain related.

While pondering what to do with the Logan (as explored in another thread- the answer being I have done nothing with the Logan, and probably won’t), I seem to have accidentally sold the MX5.

One of my churchwarden’s husband sadly died a few weeks ago (aged only 48) and their mobility car was taken back within a week or so. As she was without a car I lent her the Mazda to give her some time to shop around for something.

Now, a few weeks later, she has enjoyed the Mazda so much (in turns out her husband had a mk1 MX5 as a company car when he was a travelling salesman!), she wants one. So it only seemed polite to offer her mine, to save her the hassle of shopping around.

Now I quite enjoy shopping around for cars, so am now looking around for a replacement for my cheapie MX5 (very cheap- £1200). Another one perhaps? I have a little more budget now (I’ve been saving up), £2.5k, which might even stretch to a mk3.

There are lots of MG TF’s around, which might be tempting. Or even an MR2. Any other ideas? Ideally a soft top, but not necessarily, as long as it’s small and fun. Read more

I now have bought the mx5 that had failed it’s mot. The vendor replaced the catalytic converter so it now has its mot. He was very honest with me about what it cost him (£500) and showed me in detail all the work he had done-mainly bodywork and welding. And I’m very pleased, another cheap mx5!

As above "They said they'd tried cleaning them but they still needed replacing.".Don't think so.No way would they have tried to remove them for cleaning.(which is a complete wasre of time anyway). If they are seized into the exhaust, there is a good chance trying to remove them will damage them.

I went to protyre once for tracking ages ago, said i'd never go there again as they left the nuts finger tight on the track rod ends, it's only because I went to Kwik Fit the next day for an mot they noticed. So today i get a new tyre fitted in another garage company only to find out it was fitted the wrong way, direction of travel was wrong, again Kwik Fit saw it on the mot, so I went back and they changed it. I then found out the this lot have been bought out by ProTyre, grrrrrrr. Read more

I'd never heard of Protyre until now as there's not one local to me. Read customer and employee reviews and have no plans to avail them of my custom. Seems the company are on the acquisition trail too... Thanks for the heads up.

Lucikly, in my part of Leicestershire we've a couple of good, honest and trustworthy tyre shops who get my business. Near the office is another one who has a stellar local reputation. ...

Hi, I want to save money rather have garage to fix my fault blower fan. The problem is when I put my key on and start the engine, the fan is contine on low speed while the switch is off! I am not expert on electronics but it sound should be easy DIY at home, I have check the fuse is fine and the motor is working on all speed but be can't switch off. Could that be a resistor fault? Found on eBay for £55 is this right price seem too high for little resistor block under motor fan. My is climate control.
