Are there any insurance experts in the forum that could help me please.
I've had a damage only accident involving one other car. I've informed my insurance company and given all details. The damage to my car is minor and easily repairable, I can do this. The damage to his car is less than expected and he is happy to get it fixed locally at my expense. My insurance company is happy that we fix the vehicles ourselves at no cost to them ( of course). But would this be beneficial to me ?
My question is: having informed my insurance company of the accident is there any benefit paying for his repair or will I be loaded just the same? Read more
Hi there
Hopefully I will clear up my mind before I will make any mistakes on this. Last thing I want is out myself in trouble but what if being honest cost me more money? ... Read more
There really was no problem. Any comeback from a future buyer would be on the dealer not you, and as you said it was already in the manufacturer tolerances.
It's refreshing to hear of an honest person but you'll put yourself at the mercy of rip off dealerships if you're too open, most would surely knock a few hundred off the trade in price and sell it to auction anyway - do you think they'd declare the high oil consumption? Absolutely not....

What percentage of non-Hybrid cars meet their published figures?
What about the MG3, loads of owners get equal too and more than the quoted, also my Disco 5 gets more than specified, the official combined figure is 37.7, i haven't had that low for ages, i have had as high as 55mpg, and the last three journeys average out to over 40mpg, and i have photo evidence for that. My Suzuki Ignis gets 59.6 average. Motorway to Bath from Devon over 60mpg.
I would say one of the reasons for sales being down is that the consumer has no faith in buying a new car, weather that be diesel, petrol or other. the government is not giving us clear indications as what will happen in the future. petrol and diesel prices continue to rise and yet again the British public are being squeezed time and time again.
On a personal note, I would like to replace my car before it gets too expensive to drive and maintain. But am hanging off replacing my '62 plate Euro 5 diesel Astra until there is a clearer understanding of the future of cars on British roads. Read more
Hardly surprising with this daft lot in charge banning diesel and petrol whois gonna want to buy a brand new one its better keeping hold of a diesel thats a few years old than buy a new one and see its value plummet the second the dealer hands you the keys (electric cars are the future eh ) what a load of t*** this will be a disaster there will be record number of cars on the hard shoulder running out of electricity despite what this stupid government might have you to believe and what happens in summer season cant see everyone towing caravans with electric cars....and dont give me all this nonesense about charging points that will be available everywhere they wont there will be a backlog of traffic running out of power the way forward is hybrid ones which flick from petrol (or diesel) to electricity and back to fuel when the batteries run out to recharge it.
How long will it be before we see the drop in price at the pumps though? Greedy fuel companies are quick to raise prices but very slow at dropping them. Also noticed that fuel prices in France are roughly the same as here this is unusual as they are normally a lot cheaper. Read more
Living outside of UK in retirement. 60lt tank diesel here costs me 30 euro is far better fuel than UK is allowed is far cheaper too. Government rake off so much from your fuel and road tax system it is seen unfair by all the world who have visited UK and said so in so many ways in news. 70 million people paying out on everything you can think off to exist whilst your Government own everything even you.
Here is said to be corrupt had one point four million people and costs a third of UK to be millionaire on pension. How can British Governments justify day light robbery of the people who work. It I therefore the Governments who are totally corrupt as tax on wage on food on fuel on roads on investments of fresh air soon too. They have tried it on window tax and where does all this cash end up but the Government wage the Crown laziness and cost to keep and the ever growing civil lists.Oh!and all bih houses that now belong to Government as National Trust is Government owned and a scam to rid them of the ruling class that built England as a tax haven. A house cost 699 pounds when I bought my first home in UK that house now sold would ask a price of 587000 pounds. Is this considered fair to the youth who will never own a home in their lives. Care not say the men at the top who invested in rows of cheap housing made fortunes on rents and now off load to make billions and pay no tax as they sit in Parliament and can name them all.Yet nothing is ever done. You park a car and forget to pay parking in your rush and fined for breathing you are.End in court and jail if not presented. Here no parking fees only in one high street in the big city of Riga. Park and ride is free.
The main down side is that the Phev is Taxed as a gas gussler which is disheartening to say the least Read more
All this ignores the reported awful environmental impact of building the things. A pal of mine has a Lexus soft roader thing which is admirably reliable but does 36mpg overall, so how pointless is that? I too am sticking with diesel.
These are all small cars which are better suited to petrol anyway. When you need a proper car to hold four of five persons and luggage you will be looking for a diesel. How many vans are petrol- the VW I know but only used really in cities to avoid pollution charge. Show me a petrol 44 tonne lorry. Read more
Hi I have a 2008 Toyota Estima Hybrid. It has the 2.4 petrol motor . The best I get is 35mpg. Have tried it many times. Mostly open road driving with a 100kph limit then a bit of town with 50k limit. Love the car but so much for Hybrid.
Any suggestions on an SUV to buy please? Must be high seating (so SUV think), petrol only (conditions are always town driving so don't want diesel, DPF issue etc), automatic. Under 16K and ideally year 17 on so have some manufacturers warranty.
Also like the look of Android Auto/Apple CarPlay for phone connection with a nice large touchscreen. Not too bothered on inbuilt sat nav as can use the phones sat nav as only used sparely anyway. Like toys inside, but happy to add afterwards (rear camera, parking sensors etc)
Thinking of things like Mokka X, 3008, 2008, Vitara, Grandland X, Kuga etc
Also what's best way to buy? Outright, cash, bank loan, car finance, PCP? Heard on PCP that you can't add anything to the car, like parking sensors or camera or any own things would want if handing back.
Any cars to avoid? I'll buy from a recognised garage for some peace of mind.
Thanks Read more
I believe the Peugeot's mentioned by the OP, certain from 2017>, would have the eat6 lightweight torque converter auto as opposed to the old egc automated manual. So, in theory, should be fine. I'm guessing the Grandland X will be the same.
I just saw this satnav on ebay, the seller now says updates are no longer available but the internet says the opposite? Does anyone here know the truth please?

Apparently Lifetime maps...means for the time your device is supported by tomtom....so worth a nosey of their small print..

Has his car been fully inspected? There could be damage under the skin that may only come to light during the repair, or even further down the line. When someone rear-ended me a few years ago, what seemed like a small respray turned into a new bumper, new parking sensors and two new wheels.
It may seem nasty, but you've no reason to trust this person, and there's no telling what he may try to pull....
