Hi,just after a bit of advice, bit of a long story so i'll try and keep it brief...
Bought an approved used vw from a garage around 50 miles away. Within a couple of weeks had an issue wth the car so took it to the vw garage near my girlfriends work They had a look said it needed £900 of repairs that weren't covered by the vw warranty. I called the garage we bought it from and after a bit of toing and froing they agreed to collect the car and repair it and provide us with a hire car while ours was being repaired. A hire car was dropped of at my girlfriends work, she signed a form to say she had accepted the car and there was no damage etc. We had the car over the weekend and on the Monday afternoon someone from the garage dropped off our car and drove the hire car the miles back to the garage where it was picked up by the hire car company. ... So… here I am again looking for advice from the HJ community.
My Nissan Pathfinder needed a replacement head gasket in summer last year. Fast forward to Feb, and the head cracked. The garage that the car was at offered me two options:
1 – have the cylinders bored out, fit oversized pistons, and a new head gasket.
2 – fit a different block and cylinder head that had been sourced by the garage, and checked.
After discussions with the garage, I elected to go for the second option. Partially because I was offered a 12 month, 12000 mile warranty.
Fast forward to now (I picked the car up on 17 March 18), and last night the truck overheated. Once the engine had cooled down, I checked the expansion tank and the coolant level was well below minimum. Most of the coolant had apparently exploded from the top of the expansion tank and was now on the Lincolnshire highway or in the engine bay (you could see little puddles of orange fluid). I get this could be a thermostat issue or a split pipe, however I am steeling myself for the worst.
I’ve contact the garage this morning and the car is being towed back to there for them to have a look at. My concern is two fold:
1 – Having moved house in between collecting the car and now, I cant find the invoice he gave me.
2 – Where do I stand if he refuses to honour the warranty? The vehicle has lasted less than 3 months from pick up.
Any assistance/advice gratefully received.

I would wait until the garage actually diagnose the cause of the overheating as you state it might just be a split pipe.

The symptoms sound like you have an immobiliser network fault. Remove the instrument cluster and check the multi pin connector that locates into the back of the circuit board .
What happened to common sense and personal responsibility?
Are people so stupid these days they can’t drive/stay in lane/park etc or it appears concentrate on what they’re doing for more than 5 minutes ie driving?
One real potential problem is the increasing use of touchscreens for basic functions of the car, climate control and window demisting for instance. As someone who drives dozens of different cars each week they are as distracting as using a mobile phone.
Make training more thorough, tests more relevant, and make manufacturers disable screens when the car is moving. Simple. Read more
Totally agree with you. I was given a Volvo V40 as a courtesy car. It was a wet day and I needed to demist the windscreen. What a complicated thing to do, took me ages to get the right setting. What's wrong with simple rotory dials, turn it to demist and the correct temperature setting, turn on the fan and that's it. You can virtually do it without even looking.
I don't think many motorists even care what a car drives like nowadays, they seem to be more concerned at the number of distracting toys they have to play with....
I currently have a 2004 Automatic Ford Transit. I currrently do somewhere in the region of 400 Miles per week to and from work. I have four large breed dogs which I currently cage in said van. I would normally have at least three of them when I travel away from work.
The needs are comfortable motorway cruiser for Monday to Friday Something with enough space for weekends. I'm really struggling to find something on the second hand market.needs to be automatic I have no clutch control automatic only licence.
Initially I was thinking something like a Citreon C4 Grand Piccasso, but then I heard that they arent the most reliable vehicles. Automatic transit replacements now only seem to be the electric variety of the now defunct Smith Edison.
I think I have considered most options but would prefer some input

For your requirements and budget, i'd be looking at Japanese imports as suggested earlier, maybe something like this:

Glasgow will launch the first LEZ on December 31, 2018. Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee are expected to follow by 2020. Read more
Where does all the money raised go that is paid for entering an LEZ? What changes has it made to London? Public transport surely is much busier with more profit for them, are all London buses electric, if not do they pay the charge? I don't ever drive to London now, used to, but now only go to London when absolutely necessary and on the train.
I imagine a large proportion of the money goes to supporting the bureacracy and infrastructure around the LEZ. So there will be a very highly paid chief executive. They need to pay to get the best. ;) And then there will be senior managers. And computer power to do the data processing. And engineers to support the computers. Plus accounts people to pay the salaries. And rent to pay for the offices. Amazing value when you think about it ... ...
My windscreen has a chip/crack in it where a stone flicked up, the longest line is about 15mm.

A windscreen will NOT affect your NCD, and does NOT need to be informed at renewal or if changing companies as a claim.
That may previously have been the case, but beware. Many companies now ask about claims including windscreens. I know that I was. With rain sensors, active cruise control and AEB a windscreen replacement can now be a lot more expensive than it used to....
Hi need some advice on a family car. I have a budget 10k but ideal would be 7/8k. It has to be automatic and im doing about 20k mileage most is motorway. Economy is important. Max 70k mileage and 2012 oldest. Options i looked at was hyundai i40, mondeo. (Don't want the expensive brands)Also if I went to 11k budget is a 15 plate passat worth it over a 7/8k car.

To follow on from SLO said, I owned an older Accord 2.2 CDTi. The steering was sharp if a little numb and the ride was fine for the most part. Motorway journeys were comfortable but the car tended to crash over bumps.
The CDTi engine doesn't have a DPF and your budget could get you any model you wanted, but then the car would be around decade old and more than likely need a new clutch and DMF....
Just walking past my car with a step ladder after doing a bit of pruning, did a little trip and scratched the wing...about an inch in length but not all that deep. £300 I was quoted, just touched it in and if you look carefully you can see it. How does a repair come to £300? local mobile lot say it's beyond them. I'll live with it for £300! Read more
I had a minor parking bump a while back, which left multiple scrapes around the grille and put a crease in the bumper.
I've used the local Chipsaway guy a couple of times and he's proven to be very good, but he advised me that the scrapes and crease were too extensive to be fixed by his processes: it needed to be a bumper-off job....

Lots of problems with car hire companies charging for items after the car has been returned. This happened to me when a company claimed I had damaged an alloy despite me having invited the agent to inspect the vehicle, which they declined. I referred this to my credit card company who refunded the charge.
