Hi all, my windscreen washer is not coming threw the jets, there is no sound of the pump trying to work either. I've checked for a fuse for the pump however cant seem to find one, I cannot find the pump either. Counlnd anyone tell me where either of them are?? Or what my problems could be and how to rectify? Today I was accused of hitting a parked car with a driver sat inside. (Front bumper to front bumper). I know I was very close to the car but deny hitting the vehicle. As there was no damage to either vehicle, to which the accuser agreed, I refused to give my details. However they said I could have damaged the vehicle on the 'inside'. I have taken a photo of both cars. Should I have done/do I need to do anything else? Never had any experience of this sort of thing and now I'm thinking of mulltiple scenarios! Read more

I would report it to the police to cover yourself, make a note of the time and officer you reported it to, if it turns out that there was a light touch then you may very well be accused of failing to report, so just cover yourself.

he might say he had the handbrake of and the vehicle moved slightly after the alleged collision, so again cover yourself....

Coming home this evening, I was rounding a corner at 30mph when the emergency braking kicked in for a second. It scared me witless. I should have a dashcam video. I will report this to the manufacturer. However, I’ve had a stream of faults from my car, a new VW Polo, and a loaner while mine was being repaired. I am wondering if the ECU is fit for purpose, and safe for on road use. Read more

My belief is tha these systems are designed by the companies and not bureaucrats, as safety is surely a big selling point. Witness the popularity of big SUV tanks which are perceived as safer. As regards my own car, the assisted braking icon lit up again today, for quite a few seconds but no braking, fortunately as I could see no reason for the alert. I have a feeling it cannot cope with corners, and that it sees oncoming traffic as an impending collision. I suppose the sensor could be misaligned. Thus far it’s only gone off on a left hand bend, always the same one. There is something to be said for a car with minimal toys and trinkets inside.

is that collision mitigation braking or assisted braking, there is a difference in how it works, the first is automatic the second is down to you...

My cms light on the Civic comes on occasionaly but will not operate the brakes, but depends how close the obstacle is,ie if a car/pedestrian/wall is sensed but gets no closer the light comes on for several seconds then goes off,I have got used to it now..but its limit is 19mph, above that speed it never comes on ...

I’ve been looking for a suitable family car for the last few months and have now seen two cars which I think might fit my requirements..

The first is a Honda CR-V 1.6 SR automatic, 65 plate with 20k miles. It’s a nice, plush feeling motor which drives smoothly with nice auto box and bags of space.

Alternatively, I could save myself £3500/4000 on the same year and mileage 1.4 booster jet Suzuki Vitara. (Auto)

They are a similar type spec but there’s no doubt that the Honda feels a lot more car for the money. The extra space is a big bonus but I could possibly live without it. I’ve got two young kids and play a bit of golf so predominantly I need enough space to carry the appropriate equipment which the vitara just about does at a pinch.

I easily do enough millers to justify a diesel but the petrol Vitara is a big appeal.

Overall I can’t help but feel the Honda easily justifies the extra cash but there is the niggling doubt about the Diesel engine which Honda are now phasing out. Does the sound like a sensible decision or would anyone try and convince me otherwise?

A final curve ball option is a Hyundai i30 1.4 auto 18 plate pre reg. it’s a top of the range version which comes in at the same price (few hundred cheaper) than the used Honda. It’s a car I like the look of (haven’t driven as yet) The boot is slightly bigger than the Vitaras but it isn’t as practical as the higher and flush loading positions in the other two for a young family. I have a VW P9lo that was bought new a few weeks ago. It’s been in to repair the windscreen wipers which failed during heavy rain. Today on parking I was unable to turn off the radio. Took keys out, and it was still on. Pushed off button, no joy. Turned volume button, no joy. Put keys in ignition, used steering controls to mute the radio, no joy, pushed buttons to,reduce volume, no joy. I was fiddling for five minutes until it went off.

So, what to do? I’m tempted to record this, and contact the dealer if anything similar happens again. I’ve not had the car back a week yet! Oddly enough the loan car, same model, also had some weird behaviour, wipers stopped during light rain, then a fault code appeared on the dash. Right as rain after a few minutes!

In fact I have had an idea. I have VW assistance, so I might ask them if there is some reason for the behaviour, some form of lock for example. Read more

I bet it would also reset all the engine compnents back to factory specs, e.g. the settings gleened by the MAF etc, so the car would run rough until it re-learned how to run smoothly again.

Interesting. The dealer recently disconnected the battery and reset the system whilst investigating a wiper failure. That means that the car would subsequently have been running sub-optimally, and would have needed need to relearn. How long would it take to relearn? Are we talking about one 30 mile journey, or several hundred miles? ...

I think this is all part of the energy saving strategy that manufacturers now have to employ to get the lowest emissions.

As you stated, when you slow the vehicle down, it uses regenerative breaking, using that energy to recharge the battery....

Hi everybody,

Today I was driving on the highway and my cruise control was on. I drove almost 2 hours without any problem and all of a sudden I got engine error, and the car started running lumpy. It doesn't go over 80km/h and no higher than 1900 rpm at the moment. I drove to Peugoet official dealer and got it diagnosed. Below is the report:... Read more

This morning, I was delayed slightly by the Friday refuse collection in my area - no big deal, the obstruction causing the delay was caused as much by parked vehicles as the collection itself.

However, whilst waiting, I did notice that the driver of the refuse lorry was also actively involved in the bin retrieval, emptying and return. The lorry was therefore running, not parked, no one at the wheel. Once the collection in that bit was done, he then popped back in the cab and drove another 15 metres on, at which point I could get by. ... Read more

After the tragic accident in Glasgow that lead to people losing their lives, I would have thought no council or contractor would now permit a driver not to be behind the wheel at all times.

I have a temporary company car, had it for 8 weeks and it vibrates heavily at 70 to 75 mph speedo indicated speed. My tomtom speed says 65 to 70 mph actual speed. I use my tomtom instead of the sat nav in the insignia because it is poor compared to the tomtom. When I got the car 8 weeks ago, it started vibrating at 70 mph, most of my mileage is on motorways so not good. 2 weeks ago, I had 2 new front tyres fitted as the tyres were down to 2mm, the tyre fitter assured me this would cure the vibration, it hasn't, if anything, the vibration is worse. As my new company car is due any day, I am not too bothered, just curious. Another symptom with the insignia is that to drive, it is the noisiest car
I have ever driven. Could this be a clue to or a symptom of the vibration? With the vibration at motorway speed, it certainly isn't a pleasant driving experience. Read more

Fairly common problem, ply seperation causes a bulge somewhere on the tyre and can even effect a well balanced trye as the shape changes with increasing speed.

Yet again the dashboard lights are indicating a problem with the Alb , steering etc and intermittent lack of braking and steering.

Had the fuse box replaced with a second hand part in May last year but the problem is back again.

There is mention of water coming from the washer pipe but I've no idea how to check this.

Can you advise please , seems to be a well documented problem . French electrics ! Read more

I don't know whether this problem only affects the CC, or 207s in general?

207s in general, but only a tiny handful of them. We've got plenty of satisfied 207 owners on the forum with no water ingress issues - and they've not even done any preventative maintenance....
