Hi there, i’ve just won an car at an auction and it hasnt got MOT or Tax.
The option of getting it delivered by a transportor is quite long and expensive and i was wondering if i was able to drive it myself to a test centre near my house.
Now i’ve been reading that its legal to drive a car withot mot/tax to a pre booked test but i was wondering if there are any restrictions behind. I was planning on pre-booking a test and drive it there from the auction house but the only problem is, i live roughly 3 hours away from the auction place so would that be a problem? Even though i’d be driving the car straight to the MOT test center?

Thanks Read more

Ive decided its probably cheaper and safer to have it transpeoted to my house where i can then MOT it down the local garage which is less than half a mile away!

Hi All , I have a 2014 Auris estate 1.4 Diesel...The Engine light has come on. Got it checked by a mechanic who said it's the DPF and advised to run it hard on the motorway.

(I've noticed much lower MPG and the start stop doesnt work since the light has come on)... Read more

The Japanese seem to have at long last got their styling right, enough to appeal to my partner at least. But which to choose between these exciting cars. Is the Hrv Japanese built and the Chr Turkish ? She would choose the petrol manual but which one and can you get one with a decent ride ? Read more

Many thanks for your contributions. really appreciated. My daughter has ordered a Mazda 3 with the 2 litre petrol engine as a replacement for her VW Polo Gti for delivery September. wonder if there will be a new model by then . This is another option for my partner But thanks to you we are looking at the Toyota non hybrid with 18 inch wheels . Assume it will have the 1.2 turbo engine .

If it's the non-hybrid, then it will be the 1.2T which is available as a manual, automatic (CVT) or automatic + 4 wheel drive. It's not particularly quick with 0-62mph in around 11 seconds, but if you switch to "Sport" mode, the throttle becomes much more responsive and the steering more weighted. Fuel consumption is not too impressive, my calculations give an average of 39.0 mpg so far. All models have an electric parking brake.

A lot of people don't like the limited rearward visibility, but it doesn't bother me at all while driving; although the parking sensors and reversing camera are invaluable when parking....

My wife's automatic 1.2 2015 308 is experiencing a strange revving / stalling issue.

The engine is revving up slightly or bogging down whilst driving, particularly under 35 mph. Then at very low speeds it has on a couple of occasions stalled (reverse parking for example). I didn't even know stalling an auto was possible!... Read more

Had work completed, new tank and petrol absorber(charcoal canister) so far after 4 or so days with short trips all seems resolved.

Will post if anything changes.

Cars with the D4 4-cylinder diesel (introduced in late 2013) have problems with the EGR cooler and valve. Volvo has been good at fixing these under warranty without quibbling.

I have two Volvo V60s in the past 6 years, and I liked them. If you're buying new, no problem. If you're buying used, I would strongly recommend that you ONLY buy from a Volvo main dealer and make sure that the car has a full Volvo service history. That will give you the strongest position if any problems crop up.

And to answer the question of why he braked, I can’t say for sure. I suspect he overtook so quickly, pulling in recklessly, that he had poor visibility of the junction until the last second, and he mistakenly thought some pedestrians were about to step into the road. It’s the sort of thing that happens when someone drives carelessly.

Done a few posts here over the last year and my choice of replacement for my 1.8 Tino automatic varied wildly. Went for this from local Nissan dealer.
In the end 7 seats was something we really wanted and as my wife’s family are flying over this week then it was decision time. It’s got the 1.6 CDi Renault start stop engine which Honest John seems to rate.
I really wanted an automatic and wasn’t after a diesel but I do enough long runs and will be driving to France this year so the fuel economy will be nice. Had Diesel vans for years so kind of know what to expect with maintenance. 12 month warranty and 2 years free servicing plus got £400 for my Tino which is what I paid for it and it’s only worth £100 now. Excited to pick it up on Thursday. I nearly went for an older XC90 (maybe next time) but they would’ve been car supermarket and seemed too good to be true, we were concerned about maintenence costs with a premium make plus we felt better buying off this Nissan dealer that has been around about 50 years.

I was more just giving an update, rather than asking for advice after I’ve bought it. I did nearly buy a Toyota Verso, a 2015. Wanted something a bit bigger in the end. Not much choice for Toyota and Honda 7 seaters but they would’ve been my preference if in my budget. Thanks.

The N/S Door Mirror foldback facility no longer operates,an issue that occured suddenly...working one minute-banjaxed the next. The Drivers side continues to function normally. All the other electronic mirror functions,eg mirror glass adjustment and indicator repeater light continue to function also.Oddly enough Autodata makes mention of a Fusebox which appears to be ignored by Peugeot themselves, but contains a fuse F37,marked as Passenger Door Mirror !!.....all good except I cannot locate the damn thing !! Is there anybody out there who has had similar woe descend upon them ? Read more

Thank;s BBD. That's yet another different fuseboard layout,it's intriguing that the fuseboard with F36-F40 doesn't appear to be fitted to my car.I'm leaning towards taking the front doors off and checking the pair of plugs in each door pillar, which,I understand can provide problems for door electrics...oh well,I need more hours and less rain !!!
