We intend to trade in our 63 plate Focus 180 Ecoboost for an electric car this year. We don't want a hybrid.
As far as range goes, I doubt we would ever want to do more than 100 miles in a round trip, with under 20 being the norm.... Read more
I've got a 2001 Astra with the X/Z18XE Engine, with the Simtec 71.1 ecu. It's throwing a cooling system warning light, but nothing actually seems to be wrong with the car. I wouldn't care, but I want to sell it.
Coolant is pumping, the fans are turning on and off, the A/C works great even on a 43°C day like today. It quickly heats to 90°C and stays there in all conditions.... Read more
Thanks for informing how to get engine temperature cooling module plugs off
I too have a very strange problem.........
I was interested to hear on Sky news today that GMP advice GPS units to be put on the bottom of the screan and touching them can lead to a fine of £50 plus.
My windscrean is quite sharply racked and so putting the GPS unit on the bottom makes it so far away I can not see the details, secondly as you drive it gives traffic updates and if it suggests another route demands a confirmation if you wish to use it.... Read more
Sounds like you’d get on well with one of the old Becker 1 din units, pity most of them can’t be updated past 2008 or i’d have one myself!
A minor point, perhaps. Engine undershields. Why don't all cars have them?... Read more
I think they are often aerodynamic. I lost one off a C5 years ago and the dealer wanted several hundred for a new one so I didn't bother - without it at high speed the bonnet lifted a quivered in the wind. I'm looking at fitting one to a recently purchased Jaguar XJ and the workshop manual actually describes it as an "air deflector"...
I replaced the alternator on a friend's 2.0l hdi Picasso. A simple job I thought it also needed a battery as the had been run very low. It started perfectly after replacment and they drove away. The next day they call saying it won' start. I go to investigate and they are nearly correct. It did start but took forever chasing and chattering. It cleared and ran quite well revvd clear etc. The next day won' start again. I visit and collect the car. It drives but is under powered and a little noise. It appears like the injection timing is out. I have checked the cambelt and all is good. Any help would be very appreciated. Read more
Most faults which appear after work has been done in the engine bay is usually down to an unconnected or damaged electrical cable.
Have a good check of all wiring around the areas you were working.

When comparing replacement batteries check the weight, a lot of cheap batteries have thinner plates. The heavier the better.

Don't leap to conclusions. Some people, including me, were finding that some new threads weren't appearing on screen. The ever-helpful Kalpesh has been looking into it.
Not Finguz's fault. I'll close this thread and people can use the other one..
