Hi, i have now had 3 different sat navs, two tomtoms & one Garmin & all three have been replaced because of battery issues.
Is this pure coincidence or is it my car? ... Read more
Some of our sturdier membars may recall the story I posted in real time last year about my breakdown/recovery from Orleans/A10.
To sum it up, I and the car were independenttly brought home at great expense when the problem turned out to be a detached turbo pipe (despite Pierre the pirate mechanic's insistence it was an injecteur €1500 problem). My local indy fixed it in less than an hor.... Read more
I'm looking to replace springs on a couple of Fiestas - will be using Ford's own shocks as they're cost effective enough, but their coil springs are ridiculously pricey when compared to all other makes.
As TRW, Sachs and Boge are all part of the ZF group, is there much difference in the levels of quality and reliability of their shock absorbers and coil springs, from 'brand' to 'brand'?... Read more
Many years ago when I used to do diesel conversions I used a firm called 'Wigan Road Springs' and they used to make them up for me, whether any such firms exist today I don't know but I never had a problem with one.

Hi,
the 2L diesel in it is the L-series and I have a Rover 600 with the same. It shouldn't have a lack of performance, it's reasonably sprightly from about 50->70mph in 5th (floor it when coming out of roadworks on motorway, it should take off quite well)....
I'm in the market for a cheap as chips, smallish car that can still carry a sizeable load when required (musical equipment...).
I'm interested in the older Meriva, but am not sure if it will be big enough to accommodate the gear I carry (I might have to go a bit bigger and get a Nissan Tino, Focus estate, Citroen Picasso etc.).
I read that the front passenger seat In the Meriva will fold flat but I'm wondering in what way exactly it folds, ie. does the backrest fold all the way back or forward?
And does this folded front seat provide a truly flat loading area that essentially continues from the back loading area (when the back seats are folded down)? I'll be looking to sometimes transport a heavyish 133cm long flight case, the idea being that one end of it will go over the folded front seat, the other over the folded rear seat area.
I've googled a lot to try and see a pic of the front seat folded but to no avail.
Can anyone here provide any relevant info, or even a pic?! Many thanks. Read more
We are currently looking for a replacement for the wifes car come the middle of the year. Lots of preferences but one essential, the mother in laws fold up wheelchair has to fit easilly in the boot and the wife must be able to lift it in and out as well as be able to secure it to the seat for safety.
Do we ask on a forum if its easy or will it fit. No we don't. We take the wheelchair and go to showrooms and try it. Measurements may help but there is nothing like physically checking....

I have no idea about the Meriva but I will tell you what I do when looking for a car and am unsure about any features/measurements, it even worked before the days of the internet. I go and find one and have a look. Works every time and since its my own eyes and tape I don't have to blame the internet for giving the wrong info.

Nothing exciting - some people, including me, were finding that some new threads weren't appearing on screen. The ever-helpful Kalpesh has been looking into it.
Not sure if this is related, but there also seems to be a lot of spam threads on the General Section that have hung around for a while now and seem to be doubling up too. Perhaps these can be got rid of during the exercise.
We intend to trade in our 63 plate Focus 180 Ecoboost for an electric car this year. We don't want a hybrid.
As far as range goes, I doubt we would ever want to do more than 100 miles in a round trip, with under 20 being the norm.... Read more
I guess similar concerns were expressed over 100yrs ago when the ICE was threatening the EV market in America - the danger of having several gallons of highly inflammable liquid sloshing around beneath your seat. Sadly, people are today still regularly incinerated in RTCs.
