I find some of these readers letters the stuff of much amusement. This weeks winner is surely the people with the F Pace.

So engrossed by the tech on their car, they cannot understand why the board computer shows a full tank range of 460 miles as opposed to the supposed 560 miles range. Here's a tip, drive the car on long journeys and you'll be amazed to find that the displayed range will increase and, you probably get near 560 miles (if you havent got a heavy right foot!). Ranging bull?

I suspect that the F-Pace spent its holidays at the dealers quietly parked up in a corner while the staff had a laugh. However, neither they nor anyone else has mentioned the obvious. Many manufacturers program the range calculation to allow for a reserve of fuel so that you don't run the tank dry. Mazda, for example, seem to be particularly cautious and at one time forums were full of discussions on this.

Cheap junk cars were scrap to begin with. You should have to pay to have them taken away.

My my 2016 Optima will not lock if the key is still in the vehicle. I was loading the boot and went to close and in doing so, dropped the fob into the boot. I assumed the worse, and was pleasantly surprised to find, that despite the car being otherwise locked, the boot wasn’t, and I was able to retrieve the fob. Read more

My car suddenly lost power when I was driving. The rev needle was rising high when I reached 20mph! No warning light was shown! I only have 33.500 on the clock. I've had the car from new! Would a warning light come on if the gearbox was failing?

I have recently noted a whining type drumming coming from the rear of the car that intrudes on the usual quietness of the car which has done 56000 miles. I thought it may be a wheel baring but one going could nt be detected and the mechanic is nt sure what it is! Any ideas? Read more

I'd be surprised if the diff was away at that mileage or even a wheel bearing, though it is a possibility. Possibly sticky brake calipper? You really need to take it to someone who understands these cars to have it properly diagnosed.

Was it sourced from a BMW main dealer with full BMW service history? These are complex high value cars that require main dealer or genuine specialist servicing. Plenty of them have been crashed and poorly repaired and clocking is still an issue.

I visited the UK a couple of months back and didn't hire a car this time. On previous visits I always hired but it spent a lot of time parked. This time we used public transport and it was fine. I just couldn't face the British traffic this time. 3 lane roundabouts Yuck! M25 no thanks. Looking for parking - no way.

We also had 5 days in France in La Rochelle and everyone was very friendly and nice. Oh and the weather was great for most of the month.

cant argue with that Peter. My dad had one of those and the car im currently driving into the ground is a 2001 306 hdi with 219000 miles.

I like the look of the accord (albeit not the biggest estate around) but I think ill be looking at petrols. I like the avensis too. I have a auris estate but the 1.6 petrol is very flat and part of the reason for selling. I think ill get one with a turbo next time

What a sad situation to find yourself in. I hope you can find suitable treatment to aleviate the problem to some extent. Good advice form Bromtonaut about the benefits. I dont know your circumstances, but a change to an automatic car may help. Best of luck.

I have recently bought a corsa and I've been looking into which engine oil I should use. Everywhere I checked has given me different advice and I am still not sure. Some have suggested 5w/30 and others suggested 10w/40, whilst one said to use 15w/40. This is my first car and I'm concerned about damaging the engine. Thanks Read more

Once again my 62 plate car is in the Toyota garage. They are currently going through a 60 page bulletin manual .

Back story. Since having it serviced a year ago last may and again this May I've had nothing but trouble with the Dpf. This year I took it to Toyota for its service , within 2 weeks the DPF was blocked, they did a regen but as a gesture of goodwill they charged me half which amounted to £80. 1200 miles later within 3 weeks (most of that on motorway) it found it's way back into Toyota with a blocked DPF. This time they kept the car and did a remapping of the emu, plus a regen and I have been driving the car for over 6 weeks without a problem. Now the spanner light has come on , had it reset but it came on again, So I booked it into Toyota as knew something wasnt right and after doing a bit of research realised the oil level could be contaminated. I've just been informed the DPF isn't blocked in fact it's at 8% which means it's doing what it should but that it has recently failed a regen and as a result has contaminated the oil!!! When I took it in on Tuesday I also took with me a bulletin that I had found on this invaluable site with the same issue , I'm at a loss now with his car and am wondering what they are going to do next. The warranty ran out in May however this problem has been in exsistance for over 18months and I have written evidence of that when I wrote to the CEO of Toyota feeling very disgruntled. ... Dpf will be roughly 8 percent after a regen , whether it does it itself or a forced regen.
