Hi,
Last week thursday the check engine light came on. i booked it in for a diagnostic at the mini dealer. The car seemed to have lost some power but still able to drive anyway i stopped driving it. The appointment was this morning. When i started the car the light went off and the car seems back to normal. Has the car just corrected itself? Should i still have it looked at if the light is gone off?... Read more
The light will disappear after three "cycles" (i.e. three instances of starting the car, driving and then leaving it for a period).
Intermittent faults can come and go all the time, for a variety of reasons (bad fuel, even sensors being misread when battery demand on starting is higher)....
l've had the Seat now for near on 12 years. Been a fantasic vehicle & the PD diesal engine is still going strong, coming up to 300K. However, the rest of the car is starting to show its age & come next spring it will be time for a change.
l know these things are subjective, though l would be glad of peoples opinions & recommendations as to a replacement. It will have to be used, SUV (wife would prefer the style & higher stance, though no off road ability needed) & with enough room in the boot for a couple of dogs. Mileage covered is now only around 8 - 10K per annum l have a budget of between 6 - 8K (perhaps a little more for the right vehicle)... Read more
Looking at the (justified) pro-Honda thoughts above, and the advantages of an estate for the dogs, I suggest you put a Honda Accord Tourer on the shortlist. There should be plenty, petrol or diesel, within budget.
Also remember that if a diesel engine goes wrong, the extra expense of repairing it wipes out any fuel saving you might have made. With your mileage and budget, it would be a petrol Accord Tourer for me, or a petrol Mazda 6 estate.
I SORNed the Alhambra off the road over 3 months ago when I realised it had hardly moved off the drive for the previous 3 months and then found out I could suspend the car insurance thereby saving about £45 or more per month.
Soon it'll be time to get her back on the road, to do house removal duty and get her MOT next month. I need her on the road by about 21st of this month.... Read more
You'll need to tax it with your old MOT before you take it for a new MOT, as you won't be able to tax it without a current MOT (one day's sufficient).
You are permitted to take it for an MOT without current tax, although you must have insurance and an appointment at the MOT station.
Hi All,
I am new on this forum and would like to ask you about a product that I came up with recently.
Would you be interested in a opener that does not need your action to start opening the door/gate?
It will be all automatic, sensing the velocity you are approaching home and open your garage just in time
for you to drive in. Obviously it will also sense that you have parked your car and close the door behind you.
Do you think that it would be something interesting?
Thank you

This semi-automatic system seems to work quite well.
It doesn't need any special installation skill and works on an audible signal from any vehicle....

I would also check the engine oil level first.
I was watching a programme on A&E. A driver had started his van remotely from outside of his Van. Unfortuneately for him he had left the van in gear and it jumped onto him breaking his thigh. What is remote start,is it legal and why would you possibly need it. It could possibly injure an innocent pedestrian, no mention of this in the programme hence the question. Read more
I don't know how widespread they were, but a friend in the Middle East had this on his car. The idea was to start it while walking out of the office and give the air con a chance to start cooling things down before he had to sit in it! Given that the car had an auto gearbox, like pretty much everything there, it couldn't have been started in gear. Can't see much point in temperate climates, though.
In places like Canada they often have them to start up and power the heaters to warm the car through in winter time.
I think this will be a good seller for VW but as usual you have to pay big money for a decent spec , which in reality makes no difference when it come to trading it in a few years down the line .
The likes of KIA Nissan ect are right up there now as far as quality and more so with aftersales service and their cars do come well loaded up with things that VW charge a small fortune for.
Even so i recon this will be a big hit as i think it looks great . Read more
So if this is a SEAT Ateca competitor, it must also be competing against VW's own Tiguan?
The people at Skoda must be so upset their design flair has been watered down by their VW paymasters such that this Karoq is almost a carbon copy of the Tiguan.
No wonder the Yeti name was dropped as this has no such quirky Skoda design credentials. Read more
I have had my Yeti for three years and been delighted with it despite the VW engine scandal. I was looking forward to swapping for a newer Yeti at the end of my PCP deal but am horrified to learn that there are no more Yetis. The Kodiaq is too big and when eventually the Karoq is available its styling is so like so many other cars I despair. If it ain't broke, why mend it? Why change such a popular car? Well done VW/Skoda, you have lost a happy customer.
Shame it's essentially a jacked up Rio and does not show the bold design differences Hyundai have between the Kona and i20. Read more
