Hello,
I used this forum around 2-3 months ago to find advice on buying a used Diesel car, you guys helpfully came up with a Hyundai I30 which happily to say I absolutely love & is perfect for what I need.... Read more
Hello All, I'm on the lookout for used diesel car, and the 2 above are front runners, I actually prefer an 05/pd130 passat, 5speed, rather than a 6speed Mondeo/140/DPF. But
advertised locally is a mondeo zetec 58reg/140/42kmiles, good cond, nice drive.... Read more
I had (a number of years ago now) a couple of Audi A6 estates with the 1.9 130 engine. It's probably one of the best engines designed and built in history.
As to continuing to look for a low-mileage example, I don't rate your chances. They were bought by people who did big mileages, so they've done big mileages. The newest ones are now 12 years old, so you should not be buying on mileage alone, but on lots of preventative maintenance and a long-term owner.
Hi guys im after a petrol hatchback , budget of 3k max ideally mpg towards the 40mpg with a bit of power 100bhp plus. I was looking at civics 06 but mileage are pretty high. so ideally 60/70k mileage, 06/07 onwards, 1,4 plus and reliability is key.

Yep, as above but I'd add in a Mk II Ford Focus with the Mazda 1.8 petrol. Won't do 40mpg unless you drive like a nun but a hoot to drive and pretty bulletproof. The Mazda 3 is great but the 1.6 isn't a barnstormer (perfectly adequate for an old fuddy like me) and the 2.0 Sport is a fair bit thirstier.
Where I live it is a controlled parking zone by permit only 10am-3pm any vehicle wanting a permit must be registered at an address in the zone, any business wanting to register a vehicle must have said vehicle in company name.
Parking meter charge is 20p 20 minutes pay & display however a car showroom is filling the mixed use bays tickets/permits with cars with no tickets or permits & wave the warden away when he comes to ticket them & they never get tickets.... Read more
Definitely your local Council should be the place to go. Try your local councillor first, he or she should be able to find out through a few telephone calls and get back to you. Cheers Concrete
My friend runs an independent repair/service/MOT garage in a permit area and told me he would be charged £75 per permit to park customers' cars on the road....
Hi, just bought 1.6 tdi golf from an auction which came with a mechanical report, with the only thing highlighted that the clutch take up may require some attention
Now, i got a family friend who is in the motor trade to collect the car for me and he said the 'judder' when the revs come back down idle was similiar to one he had previous which had an injector fault... Read more
I think only faulty injector coils show on scanner but if the fault is mechanical, pugged nozles or injector that opens late do to mechanical wear, will not show up on scanner.
Do you feel any pulsation in the clutch pedal? any hard vibration/noise transmited through the body between 1700-1900rpm? does the judder show when driving?
In any case you might be looking at a dmf fault and my recomandation is that you do not drive the car or you could be faced with a broken crankshaft.
Let's use a standard hatchback as an example, like a Golf.
If money was no problem, is there any reason not to go for the mega power (e.g. an R). I'm used to driving a "warm" hatch rather than a hot one - but was wondering whether I am missing out in life. I'm not a track day person so in some ways it seems a bit silly to get a 300 BHP engine or similar, but then why not? It's nice to have a bit of poke to get out of trouble or overtake if needed. I remember having an underpowered Polo courtesy car and it felt quite disconcerting to put your foot down and literally get no response. Fuel consumption not a major priority as don't do big mileage.... Read more
"because with a slower car you drive around thinking you have to constantly keep the speed and momentum up in case you need to overtake or beat the lights, knwoing that your car is too slow to accelerate"
What a load of codswallop!...
Hi!
In the future i will need a new flywheel for my car because the dmf has wear but still working , with no noise. As a user that had 3 DMF fail untill now, I can feel when the DMF is at its last.
I found a Valeo conversion kit wich from what i've hear, it has no auto ajustable presure plate, springs on clutch disk.I think that means clutch pedal wont feel the same though the life span of the cluth disk as it wears out, and that realy doesent mater to me.... Read more
diluting engine oil with diesel (not a great lubricant).
It used to do a reasonable job of lubricating old fashioned, mechanical injection pumps.
I have a Honda Fit (jazz, japanese import), automatic 2006 model. It has close to 100,000 miles done. For a long while now it has had a problem where it seems to jerk - the mechanic decribed it as a loss of power. It is only brief and it only happens when accelerating, normally at around 2000 revs. It never happens while cruising. However it does not happen every single time, it is inconsistent.
Spark plugs have been changed and throttle cleaned. Apparently the coils are fine as well. The auto transmission oil was flushed late last yr due to the juddering problem which did seem to help it for a little while but then it came back. They have run diagnostics and it is coming up with a code, however because the car is a jap import, the code is in Japanese! One of the lads at the garage used to work for Honda so he was able to find out that the code was related to air flow, so they changed the air flow meter (or mointor?) however it made no difference. The mechanic has now said he does 't know what the problem is and to wait until it gets worse, which may help them work out what is causing it. My fuel consumption has also gotten worse.
Reading on here i have seen some threads talk about an EGR (i hope i got the correct!) valve thT can stick. Does this sound like it may be the problem or does anyone have any other suggestions on what the problem may be? Read more
I had the car into the Honda dealer today and they hooked it up to the computer and didn't get any fault readings :( They also looked at the EGR valve and said it was fine, although they suspect the problem may still be related to the EGR valve. The only way to know is to spend in the region of €500 to replace it and it's nothing more than a gamble. If that doesn't make any difference, they really don't know what the problem is. :(
Hi there,
I'm here to pick all of your brains and hopefully we can figure out whats wrong with my little first motor. ... Read more
Was the wheel central after the previous alignment? A common reason for the steering wheel to be 'off ' to one side is that lazy people doing alignment do all the indicated adjustment on one track rod instead of half the adjustment on each side.
Had this more than once at national chain tyre shops.
I thought this had already been brought in -
