Hi, im currently going to court for failing to provide ID on a driver. The original offence was doing 39 in a 30, which I know is bad, and I will happly own up to that. However I dont want to be done for the failing to provide ID on a driver. Mainly because I cant afford 800 quid nor do I want 6 points. The complication with my case is that I never recieved any NIP regarding the speeding as they sent everything to the wrong address. So I initially went to court to do a statuatory declaration. I had moved address beginning of May, however I didnt change my address until the 5th July. The issue is that the court said that the speeding charge was sent to my old address on the 7th July. So my address was correct at the time of them sending the NIP. The court said that I need to plead not guilty, but now I've plead not guilty I have to go to trial. Can anyone give me any advice to my defence? Have I got a shot at being found not guilty? I mean im happy to take the punishment for the speeding offence. Any help would be appreciated.

I have followed your OP with interest but not had anything to contribute. People like Middleman are invaluable and make forums worthwhile.
Very best wishes both for your financial situation to improve and for things to go as well as possible.
Hi Guys
My wife has had her first little scrape today, she was pulling out of the layby outside our house, and - although she is meticulous with her mirrors and looking around - a car two doors up had pulled out behind her and starting driving down the road, and she pulled out and just hit the back quarter.... If the car your wife hit is a rental car then the rental company will almost certainly want the damaged repaired properly and some compensation for the vehicle being out of use. This is definitely one for your insurance company. Not only because the claim could be substantial but also they will deal business to business with other partys insurance. This is not something for the layman. Leave them to it and chalk it down to experience. I will bet you your wife never makes that mistake again. I think you can look forward to hearing from the rental company involved in due course. If not, you are a lucky so and so!
Cheers Concrete

Making an Anti-roll bar for my Grasstrack Racer.
The anti-roll bar will be approx. 400mm long with arms each end.... Read more
400mm seems short for an anti-roll bar, especially if you expect it to twist 15 degrees.
As Rob says, it needs proper calculation to get dimensions and material specification right, can't use just any old bit of steel for these.
Invest in public transport? But most public transport is diesel powered and does not have to meet the strict emissions regulations that cars have to meet. Check out any high street and you will find rows of busses and taxis belching out all sorts of crap. Most with just a handful of passengers. Not very green. Read more
Me neither, the only way I could afford one is on a lease or PCP, and that means getting into debt for 2 or 3 years, something that i'm not willing to do in these days of economic uncertainty, and certainly not because some Jolly Boy Politician or Londons' Mayor tells me too!.

Hello, I'm thinking of buying a Cat D car but am obviously worried. He says it had an accident a few years ago and upon checking the MOT history I can see it's done a fair few miles over the 3 years since the accident, no history before the accident though... guess it was SORN? Should I not worry in this case since I can see it has been used and save a good 25%. Any other advice on purchasing a Cat D car. Read more
There are cars that suit everyone for sale, some are more suitable for some people than others, the car in question has you worried enough to be asking here, i expect that means it's not ideal for you.
If you're a bangernomics motorist likely to keep it till it falls apart then a catD could be a shrewd buy, similarly someone who examines cars properly in the important places (not most buyers) would judge the car on what they find.
I was taught, when coming down a hill, to give way to vehicles coming up. Commercial vehicles used to not have much power and were at a disadvantage on hills. Now do vehicles have so much more powerful engines that it doesn't matter any more ? Read more
The unwritten rule of the road i was a taught before i started driving, 'give way to uphill traffic', when the country was a better place.
As for lorries having more powerful engines (though still around 10bhp per gvw ton in many cases), well like modern cars the move is to smaller engines heavily turbocharged to get enough power out of them, and just like cars with small engines getting them moving can be a slow frustrating process, not helped by the automated manual boxes now fitted to the vast majority with their slow response and gearchange times...fine on the motorway maintaining speed not so good at junctions or when sheer guts is required such as dead hill starts, where traction can also be a serious problem....
Have you checked the rear tail lights, are they on too?
