My Daughter bought it from her friend with 2 computers. The original computer in and all the dash gauges work and the car starts but stops after a few seconds,Obviously the fuel imobilizer. Then i connect the second computer which her friend bought trying to fix the problem and the car starts and runs fine but none of the gauges work and my daughter is constinately running out of fuel. The alarm light on the dash is constinately on.Could you please tell me how i can fix this problem either by disconecting or by-passing the alarm system or the imobilizer or both completely but with the gauges working.I do not know if it is the UK System or the USA version as we live in Australia Read more
Hello i am helping a friend with a 02 plate clio which has a problem with its rear fog lights well they dont work. When you switch them on the light comes on the dash. If i put a wire to the fuse box and directly to the rear fog light it works properly through the switch. I was wondering the wiring should go battery, ignition, fuse box, then switch. I am wondering if anybody knows the wiring on a clio so i can make sure im tracing them. I would like to know the route and the colours of the wires at each stage. Read more
Thanks for the info i started at the light end and found some muppet had wired a tow bar in and disconnected the fog light. Then put new wires in running to the tow bar and no live wires to the fog lights so rewired the back end. The owners said the tow bar been on there since they have had the car 4 yrs yet this is the first time it had failed mot on fog lights makes you wonder doesnt it.
My Golf often stalls, usually when changing gear or backing off. Occasionally when cruising steadily it feels like it's missing a little, and it feels like it's hesitating every second or two. The glow-plug light usually comes on after it has stalled. The brake lights are all good (which is what the glow-plug light usually means). Turning the key off & on again gets it going.
It never stalls when accelerating, doesn't smoke, and I get an indicated 60mpg+.... Read more
I would also suggest you put a piece of clear tubing in the fuel line immediately before the injection pump. Look for any air in the fuel as that can upset the pump & cause poor running.

can anyone provide expected/average 1,2 and 3 yr service charges for this model? Read more
Mercedes also try and make out its a national 'fixed price', which of course would be illegal as Mercedes garages are run by different franchise operators.
They do however price match and they also very handily allow you to get a price on line from most dealerships.
So I go to my local one, then trawl the Country for other outlets. 10 minutes on the net last time saved us £120. The other dealership we were matching to was about 50 miles away.
Hi all,
How reliable is the 1.4 TSI 122 engine in the Scirocco? Real MPG actually suggests this engine hits its claimed consumption, across most VAG platforms, but I've read a lot of scare stories on the 1.4 TSI. I was holding out for Captur 1.2 TCE manual, but it could be some way off and the 'Roc is a very nice vehicle - I'd written it off for too expensive to run until I saw it on real mpg and looked into the insurance group.... The car you will be looking at will be the old chain cam engine which had its issues, mostly in the twin charged version. If you read VW forums many of these were owned by people who had them chipped to stupid power levels. There were very few issues with cars owned by "normal" people so if you go ahead I would want to find out what type of person the previous owner was and was servicing carried out on time using the correct VW parts and lubricants. Remember that this 122 PS engine was fitted to millions of Golfs, Leons, Octavias etc etc and very few had issues.
As for mpg very few cars actually do anything like the "official" mpg figures. The manufacturers have to quote these figures by law despite thier inaccuracy, not to do so would lead to their prosecution....
Just as a thought, ( im a part time taxi driver btw) the vehicle i drive has done 250k miles (diesel) and was wondering, what vehicle has done the most mileage in history?, without engine being replaced/refurbished.
The Torano i drive has gone through 3 engines, 2 being due to drivers not checking the oil and resulting in engine seizure. other being a taxi has been driven to hell and back.... Read more
NASA's Opportunity rover?
Technically it was transported 50 million miles before its started roaming the planet (still going - not bad for a solar-powered vehicle!)...
Is the camshaft driven by chain or belt? Read more
Yes I had a 2002 petrol VTEC, CRVII. Honda described the engine as having a "quiet chain" camshaft drive. Sounded a bit euphemistic to me - marketing speak for a belt! Not serious of course, but I did wonder if it was one of those "toothed chains" rather than a proper roller chain?
Hi. I have a 2010 zafira 1.6. Over the last few weeks I've noticed a strong smell of petrol upon starting the car which disappears after a few minutes. It isn't noticeable when the car is moving, until I reverse, then it is noticeable again (in fact whilst reversing it smells almost like WD40).
There are no obvious leaks as the driveway is always clean & dry. Smell is there regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. Sometimes you are only just aware of a slight smell, other days it is extremely strong. I am hoping to get the car into a garage at the start of the week - any ideas what could be wrong with it?
Thanks in advance. Read more
