Hi
I have a Ford Mondeo Ghia 2002, the car was driving for about 15mins and then starts to loose power and cut out, I took it to a mechanic and the tested it and changed the fuel pump. Took it away and about after the same time started to loose power and cut out! any ideas? Read more
We have a 04 Civic 1.6 and 03 C3 1.4 in the family (neither mine), on 115K and 106K miles respectively. The C3 has no recorded service history but I’ve serviced it for the last few years, the Civic has a full service history. Neither car has ever broken down, but what are they like to drive now they’re past the magic 100K mark? Will the much-lauded Japanese quality start to shine through?
Economy: The C3 still returns 50-55mpg easily, the Honda struggles to return 40mpg losing around 8mpg from when it was at its best (1-0.) Suspension: The C3 rides really nicely with no rattles or squeaks, the Honda has a few knocks on both the front and rear suspension over speed humps and the ride is very jiggly –as it always has been (2-0.) Fixtures and fittings: There’s nothing at all wrong with the C3’s interior, the Civic’s driver’s side window keep coming out of its guide and getting stuck – the interior looks worn and scruffy – the C3 is fine (3-0.) Engine: The C3 doesn’t sound like it’s done the miles and doesn’t use oil. The Civic rattles like an old Chrysler Alpine – it too doesn’t use oil but sounds every bit a 100K+ mile car. (4-0.) Steering: Both cars steer very well with no real vices – scoredraw (5-1) Paintwork: The rear bumper on the C3 has patchy lacquer but not a speck of rust anywhere. The Civic’s paint is patchy and there are bubbles of rust appearing at the bottom of the doors and on the pillars (6:1.) I won’t rate the performance as the cars are not the same capacity – but in the real world the C3 is as quick because I cannot stand the din the Honda makes if you try to use the extra horses! The smaller engined Citroën is actually the better motorway cruiser because it has surprisingly tall gearing for such a small engine.
The stats don’t lie – Jap cars are the most reliable (not that the C3 has ever broken down) – but that doesn’t mean they are always the best! If circumstances mean I have to borrow either of these two cars – The C3’s keys are always my first choice - which does genuinely surprise me. Read more
Later Mark 2 1.3 Yarises have a 6-speed gearbox, which makes them a lot better for motorway work.
I see there are seventeen Ford radio code posts in 'technical' tonight.
I'm just curious why so many need Ford codes, no one ever seems to ask for codes for other makes? Read more
Nothing to worry about. It is a short lived fad.Current ford radios are not coded.
Please can you advise me, I am gettng a judder when pulling off In 1 st gear and reversing, The judder is quite noticable on times and seems to be when the clutch is fully out, and I am pulling away slowly. The car has 50,000 on the clock and I have only had the car a month. I have a 12 month suzuki warranty on the car, but would like your advise before contacting the garage.
Many thanks ... Read more
Could be either, it would be easier to dismiss a mount causing the problem by having a good look and levering them. Unless you have got the clutch stripped in front of you, it's difficult to "see" a damaged clutch spring or oil contamination.
You need to get someone to look at it, anything else is just guesswork.
Hi. I have just purchased the above car.It has the original ford radio with a seperate cd player underneat. The serial no of the radio appears to be 7c011963 and the no on the cd player is n0037701. I am not sure if the cd needs a seperate code to work perhaps some one out there can help.
Many thanks in advance.Eric Read more
I assume this is an early 90s car with a Ford radio and probably a sony CD player below.I think your best bet is to look on flea bay under classic Ford radio codes,to get codes for both units. If is a cd multichanger under the seat, then no code reqd.hth
Twelve successive radio codes. Is this a record?

Hi, Would appreciate any advice on this. Nearly cleared the finance on my Landrover Discovery and will probably sell it privately on autotrader. I have had the car for approx 15 months and odemeter is now reading 103k. There is no proof of servicing between 75k and 99K but before this it was all landrover servicing. When i bought it it was showing 99k.
i have done all my own servicing on the car all fluids changed some 6 months ago.... Read more

The electronic parking brake on my 2008 2ltr diesel model has developed a fault. The automatic release facility no longer works, so I have to use manual release by depressing the foot brake, this is tricky when on a slope. I have been told by my independent Audi garage that the clutch cylinder will need to be replaced as the faulty switch is part of it. Is this correct? And should this fault have developed on a vehicle of this age? (70000 miles) Read more
There is a switch in the clutch cylinder,in fact some have 2 ,depending on whether car is fitted with stop start system. It is not a seperate replacement switch.Who knows if it should have failed at this age,but consider how many times the clutch has been operated.
Hi I know nothing about cars but have recently bought a 2nd hand 2003 Ford Focus Ghia. Was informed it was in perfect working order but since purchase have noticed the MOT came with 10 advisories. I'm now worried I have purchased a heap of junk. The advisories are:
1. Supplementary restraints system warning lamp does not illuminate.... Read more
