Hi,

Hope someone can advise. I bought a car from a local dealer in March which was advertised on their site and others (including this one) as having 12 months MOT to run. This was also confirmed verbally by the dealer.

On getting a copy of the certificate, it transpires that it runs out in a couple of days and also has some advisory items on it. I have a copy of the advert where the 12 months MOT is mentioned. I would not have bought car if I had known MOT was so short.

Is this false advertising? What are my options? Should dealer MOT and cover cost of any work needed?

Thanks Read more

Have you check on VOSA whether there IS actually a 12 MOT on the car and that it was a simple admin error - i.e. the dealer has given you the old certificate rather than the new one?

As above -this happened to me. It was only when I double checked the mot at home I realised it was very short. One call to the garage and we realised the current mot was sitting in the salesmans drawer. Simple human error and nothing underhand.

i put a depost on a car at a car dealer .i test drove same make model and year car. i like the car but not the colour the dealer said he had one in white in th depo. so i paid a deposit on it. i got a recpiet with make modle and cars reg. they then rang 2 days later to say the car was not avalible and that when they went to pick up the car it had already gone. they said that they did not have the same model and offered for ther same price an sri instead of an se. in my opinion the se was alot nicer but the dealer said they sell them at the same price. i told them that i wasnt happy and that if i put a deposit on a car it was for them to hold it for me. they said sorry and that i could take the sri or get my deposit back. i dont know where i stand can i make them get me a car the sme as the on i put a deposit on? There's an old saying ... if you don't ask, then you don't get ...

If you're going to do that though, don't be hugely happy about it. While viewing, mention a couple of times (but not too much) about how it's a shame about the colour, etc. Then ask what they can do for you on price to take it off their hands. You never know, they might offer £500 off, and then you can counteroffer with £1k off, and see where you end up.

Motable

I have a Motability car, just 2yrs old 2012 reg. It went in the local Ford dealers for its annual check and I was told that the clutch had burnt out. I had never noticed this when driving, no smell, or anything untoward. The car has done just over 11,000 miles. This must be some kind of record for ridiculously bad clutch wear. Total cost £935 for the new clutch, paid for by Motability, apparently without questions. I would have thought that Ford's warranty would have covered this after such a short time and low mileage. Is this normal?

I would have considered this totally unacceptable if I owned the car, Motability cars are on a lease system and the Ford dealer said that I should just accept is as it was being paid for by Motabily. To me that is not the point, In the past I have driven many cars for well in excess of 40,000miles a year with none of them needing a clutch replacement, over a period of about 60 years. It doesn't seem right for this not to be covered by warranty, also possibly not quite right for Moability to accept all costs without any queries.... Read more

Hmmmm, I think the dealership was sooooo close to their monthly bonus target and needed 'just under a grand' so the managers could get their few hundred quid each !

Who better to help them reach it but a motability car ? Why no Ford warranty cover though : easy, they tell motability that Ford won't cover the clutch as it's a wear and tear item and it must be down to the way the driver is riding the clutch....

More eco stuff in the Mail today, whilst it may be true, is this just another ruse to get older diesel vehicles off the road and drivers into new vehicles to boost the economy ?

Should we expect a rise in VED for older pre DPF diesels, of which many are long lasting and ecomonic. Maybe its the only way to part us from our PD's ?... Read more

Interesting. I seem to remember some years ago some research (can't really remember who!) suggested that developing diesel cars and strangling petrol cars with catalytics convertors was an extremely short termist way of doing things. It suggested the gasoline direct injection petrol engines were the most efficient and should be developed further.

Its always the same thought, whatever becomes popular will be taxed the most. When we're all driving electric cars (or to be more accurate, sitting on the hard shoulder waiting for the RAC to bring a battery charger) then we'll be screwed over by road pricing.

I was hit by a van driver and the NFU have agreed to make repairs to my vehicle and to supply a coutesy car. I have now been contacted by the company they use (CCL) to arrange this, and CCL have asked for my bank details in case of any speeding/parking tickets etc. I keep advising them that it is a courtesy car and not a hire car and as such I should not have to provide these details, am I correct? Company policies will vary and taking details of a card or a deposit in clase of parking infringements would be a reasonable precaution if that's all it is. I had one from the Citroen dealer in Milton Keynes last week while my car had a towbar fitted. No credit card but I did have to sign an agreement covering stuff like damage, excess and liability for infirngements.
