Why did BMW pay up so readily, a most unusual occurrence, could it be they know there is something inherently wrong with the car and hope the problem might go away ?" Oh dear !

I stop worrying, your car is sorted and you have some money back....

I've posted before about my screeching 206! Always worse from a cold start and in the cold weather but goes after a few miles. Its a recent belt about 6000 miles and an even newer tensioner about 4000 miles. First time at the garage they fitted the new belt, it started screeching after about 2000 miles. Back to the garage and they fitted a new tensioner now its screeching again. I don't really have the time to have the car in the garage for another day so I'm hoping I can sort it myself.

Have a good look at the crankshaft pulley the belt runs around. I think these are rubber metal sandwich construction & can start to go oval after a while. Look at the tensioner, does it vibrate at tickover.

Hi everybody, 4 weeks ago my partner took delivery of a brand new 1.0 zetec ecoboost. A few days ago on a motorway with lorries behind it went into limp mode which shook her up really badly. Luckily nothing disastrous happened but her new job involves lots of driving and she specifically wants a car that won't let her down.Following tests Ford are shipping in a brand new engine from Germany to be fitted this week which at face value seems like good efficient service but now we're beginning to wonder. My question is how does the fitting of a new engine work in terms of marrying up paperwork matching engine VIN numbers etc and would this be likely to affect the resale value, what happens to the mileage indicator. Could she just insist on a brand new replacement car instead? Many thanks for your help Read more

Engines would have to be shipped from an engine assembly plant to vehicle assembly plant-could be halfway around the world(not just for Ford)-Niehl(Cologne) certainly does vehicles and engines on the same site but it won't be all types of engine and all models of cars.

I've just bought this car and it's sounds like a tractor every now and then. Idles quietly though. Checked the shell bearings which seem ok, the car sounds very shafty, can anyone help? ?

Diesel knock can sound very much like big ends on a direct injection engine, you possibly have an injector fault.
