Since the disappearance of the Allegro's 'quartic' wheels of the 1960s, I believe nearly all cars have been fitted with circular ones. Why are the 'centres' (where they are attached to the column) often inaccurately centred? I bet that when you turn your wheel lock-to-lock you will find the rim moves up and down?
It can't be difficult to achieve. Or doesn't it matter? Read more
We used to have our own garage onsite due to it being a large company, When that fleet of FL10's got old they were always breaking down and the chances of getting the garage to come out was next to zero. I could write a book on road side repairs using cable ties, String, Tape and anything you could find to effect a repair.
They used to have a solenoid type air valve just by the cat walk and the contacts in the plug used to rot away, I still remember it failing on clapham common mid afternoon. So I stuck on the hazards, Call garage on phone, Just in time for an unmarked plod to pull up and start giving me a lecture about I can't stop here making phone calls....

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has got any experience with the x3 2.0d. Main things I'm interested are fuel economy, Ive got an 80 mile round trip to work every day, however it is all motorway, what sort of figures can you expect cruising at 70mph?... Read more
Sadly, a high-mile diesel anything is a high risk these days, in contrast to engines like the good old Perkins Prima and Peugeot/Citroen XUD, which would rattle on for years.
In the name of reducing noise and emissions, there are too many added complications which can, and do, go wrong with high mileage. A well looked-after diesel will avoid the pitfalls, as taxi-drivers have shown - but when you buy a cheap car you have no guarantee that the previous owners have looked after it....
Have had the seals changed on all 4 injectors. The car runs sweet but I am getting diesel in my engin sump could it be a bad seal on the fuel pump? Read more

Five fatal collisions the in nine days on Londons roads. Two on super cycle hiway 2 there's got to be a reason for it? It's not just coincidence. Read more
universal DRL. Once everybody is in hi-viz it ceases to stand out.I don't put any of this forward as a reason not to wear HV, just to point out that, like helmets, its benefits are easily overstated.
I have to agree with the others here Bromp, proper hi viz vests with the braces style of reflective strips are very good, as said above only the slightest light scatter will show them up from an awful long way off....i used to visit some stables quite regularly on a very dark country lane, lots of people missed the turning including me i the dark...i cut the reflective strips from a vest and stapled them to the posts either side of the entrance, could see the turning coming up on the right on dipped beam alone from something like half a mile off....

Very likely to be where the brake servo and master cylinder are mounted on a metal plate that is bolted to the bulkhead.A common problem is the mastic seal, where the 2 are joined ,cracks and allows rain water in the footwell.hth
