I need some help and advice related to some ECU/Airbag/CIM issues I have been having with my VECTRA (2003 1.8i LS 5d).

Basically, a few months ago the 'check airbag' light on the dashboard came on. It is a steady light which stays ON all the time when the engine is running. All other diagnostics lights turn off after inginition but the 'check airbag' light stays on.... Read more

Diagnostic kit comes in many differant forms from cheap generic to dealer diagnostics units. So IMHO the dealer is most likely correct.

Further investigation will not fix it ,just determine how much the next bill will be. I would check all the wires very carefully, check connectors for broken pins and water etc etc...

Hi. I'm car hunting. Please advise:

  • £3,000 budget
  • 4-5 doors
  • Not an estate
  • Diesel
  • Roomy (large hatchback or mid-sized saloon)
  • RELIABLE!

I've always bought VAG in the past. I've had a Mk3 Golf, 2x B5 A4s, Polo 6n2, Ibiza Mk3. I don't necessarily want to stick to VAG although I am a bit anxious about trying something new...... Read more

Subaru cannot sell 4 x door saloons in the UK in any volume - nobody else can and they have proved it by dropping all saloon Legacies a few years back and only selling Estate cars. Why on earth would they release "new model information" and show pictures of a saloon!

Subaru sales have dropped like a stone - No Imprezas (their biggest seller in the past), poor mpg Legacy/Outback/Forester petrols and diesels that are manual only! I know they are getting away from the Scooby reputation but to increase sales you need to offer high quality, reliable cars of the type most people buy and it is not 2.5 litre petrol cars.... It's all very well to ban something. Enforcing it is the problem.

As about 10% of drivers I see are holding a mobile phone whilst driving, let's enforce the current laws before passing new ones.. As we don't have enough traffic police to uphold the law as it stands.... Read more

Will it be big enough for 4 adult passengers - that is the question?
I love our 62 Mini Cooper, but it is a 2 plus 2 really. I shall be interested to see what the room in the back is like (make up your own jokes!).

Does Ford mondeo need silver calcium, our Mechanic replaced with lead acid battery and after 24 hours it had drained again, would it drain this quickly due to incorrect type? Mechanic tested the alternator which seemed fine, we have bought a silver calcium battery today and installed at half 2 today fired up straight away, just a waiting game now to see if it is more than the battery I think or is it definitely something more? Any ideas I'm at my wits end Read more

To flatten a battery overnight,it must be a hefty discharge-I be thinking of alternator problems-checking the output voltage means little.

Just about to order a replacement Yeti for our present one, but have been made aware of pending EU laws on emissions being tightened up for cars. There is no point in ordered another tdi if we're going to get stuck in the EU quagmire. What is your opinion? Have you heard more about this legislation? Read more

Good point - there does seem to be a re-launch in Jan 14 of the Yeti, so OP needs to negotiate a good deal on the run-out model if buying new. Probably will be some good nearly new deals, though it's not a car I fancy.

Hi, my daughters 306 suffers from a very heavy clutch, the cable is very smooth when taken off the clutch lever and is well lubricated. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas what would cause this. Thanks. Sparky100. Read more

Peter.N.

This is presumably not an Hdi as they have a hydraulic clutch, the cable clutches do tend to get heavier as they wear. You can try lubricating the cable and also the clutch lever shaft where it goes into the top of the gearbox, this may help.

Crashcourse

Hi all, for my very first post on these forums, I'm looking for some sound buying advice.

My son has put a refundable deposit on a 2009 Ford Focus 2.0 tdci Tianium, taxed, MOTd, FSH and 86,000 miles. Fully loaded, with sat-nav and cosmetically ok....£5700.... Read more

Nothing too wrong with these. This car will be fitted with the Peugeot engine,as fitted in other models. At this mileage you will also be looking at a cambelt change at 100k.Agree with above,if you dont need a diesel, better off with a petrol.Even the 1.6 engines (petrol)are ok.hth

its funny you say that. Over in the Peugeot community we tend to say that its fitted with the Ford engine!...

BMW Touring

I've a '58 plate BMW 325i Touring and am not able to find a bike rack that I can fix to the rear tailgate. Every bike rack search omits this model. I'm guessing that the non metal spoiler atop the tailgate doesn't support the weight?

The only solution seems to be having a tow bar fitted at a cost of £500 or so.... Read more

Bromptonaut

I have used a towbar rack for many years and along with 99.9% of users never had a problem

In that case the entire 0.1% outwith your knowledge are acquaintances of mine!!
