I purchased a car 3 months ago for £7000 and amongst other things (including taking the car back 3 times for repairs) the turbo is now on its way out (I have a report from Audi stating this). The car was previously owned by the manager of the garage so he would have known all the issues with the car. I have had legal advice and they think I am within my right to reject the car for a refund but I forgot to ask them if I have to take the car back to the garage when I reject it. I really dont want to have to do this as the manager is major aggressive and intimidating. Also I'm worried if I loose the small claims I will have to go back to the garage and take the car back! Hi. What is the position now?

Read the Sale of Goods (and Services) Act. What i am not clear about is whether you have given the garage the car back to repair/remedy. You should have rejected the car asap. You do not have to return the car, unless agreed, but DO NOT drive it, otherwise you invalidate your rights....

Hi all,
Someone has scuffed my rear bumper and slightly damage the wheel arch. They have accepted liability and I am claiming through them. I expect the wheel arch to be repaired but I would like the rear bumper replaced. The bumper could be repaired but I do not want a patch job, I want a replacement bumper. The repair company will be Nationwide Crash Repair Centre. If they advise a bumper repair but I want a bumper replacement, and I am claiming against their insurance then surely I can have what I want. My bumper was new and untouched and that should still be the case due the accident not being my fault - right? My insurance company only has to approve the bumper replacement and reclaim that off their insurance.

Where do I stand on this? Do I have a legal right to request a bumper replacement and not a repair as I am claiming on their insurance (i.e. non-fault for me)?... Read more

Regarding the insurance issue, my wife had her car completely written off by a drunk driver. She claimed entirely against the other driver and we've found it has not affected our insurance premiums, they are the same price or even lower than they were pre-incident.

I'm in La Palma in the Canary Islands and was in Gran canaria last week.

I don't think I've seen one car with a straight panel. They definitely aren't precious about their motors here, new or old.... Read more

No reason to look after them in the Canaries as the used prices are so high due to lack of supply. Anything sells. I saw 20 year old Corollas at 3,000 euros.

Can anyone explain why replacing a faulty fuel pump should affect the trip computer such that the "Miles left in the tank" function now does not work, whereas all other functions do? I'd be graeful for any words of wisdom. Thank you Read more

There is only one level sensor that supplies info to the fuel gauge and trip unit.Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 10 mins ?This may reset the system. If the fuel gauge is reading correctly ,then the level sensor in the tank is ok.

Thanks for this message. I understand the garage did try this although I'm not sure how as the radio display does not light up any more and it would be needed to reset the radio code after a battery disconnect, would it not?? The Radio still works!...

The other day i thought i would do my wife a favour and change the glowplugs on her c3 1.4 16v diesel thats done 160000. Cant be that hard i thought there just like spark plugs unscrew the old and screw in the new. Simples. Well anyway two of them have snapped off right at the tip with about 2cm still remaining in the engine. Does anyone have any good ideas how to deal with these. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I always use a torque wrench to undo glowplugs, Beru list maximum torque for the different types of glowplugs. I set the torque wrench to that and if they won't undo at that torque I do as 659 said and give them a good soaking for a week. I used a special ceramic grease on the threads when fitting the new ones.

I only ever saw one on the road, in Exeter city centre soon after they were launched in the mid eighties. The 'driver' was pedalling furiously to avoid being run over by a bus!

Day 1: The MG3 has a nice key. This is important, it creates a good first impression. Its big brother, the never-popular MG6, has the most cacky, flimsy fob in history so it’s nice that MG has learned from this mistake and given its new small car a nice, substantial flick key. The good impression isn’t spoilt by the car itself which looks nice, in a generic, last-generation Hyundai sort of way. The flappy door handles are old fashioned but the alloys on this car have a matt inner bit, a polished outer face and proper, intricate MG badge. They look expensive. You can have your 3 plastered in all sorts of stickers and contrasty bits if you like. I probably wouldn’t. The only bit of the outside I don’t like is the exhaust, which is too small and rectangular to work as the design feature it strives to be. It’s reminiscent of a robot’s anus.... Read more

Nicely balanced report, Trilogy.

For me the MG3 just looks too dumpy and nasty inside....

Hi, I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta 1.6 with Duratec engine. The car had a front smash and we replaced bumper, bonett, cradle, radiator, fan and a/c condensor. I also replaced the oil pressure switch as the oil pressur light kept coming on. There are no other warning lights coming on. 31000kms on the clock. Engine runs perfectly. No problem on cold start or hot start immediately after stopping. If you wait 10 minutes the car does not want to start. It is almost as if there is fuel starvation of something alike. If you try long enough it start after a few stutters. Please help. Read more
